Was trying really hard to keep to myself and say nothing about tonight but I've read too much crap about klopp to keep quiet any longer. Klopp is not at fault. He may be at fault for not buying better but he may not be as we can't all see behind the scenes. The fact of the matter is our defenders are useless. Maybe his team selection wasn't the best but people went mad about klavan against city so lovren had to come in. Robertson may have been able to play but for anyone asking for milner he doesn't offer what moreno does going forward and with him we may not have scored that first goal (may not have conceded the first either mind you) .

Anyway the fact of the matter is its not klopp fault that "professional footballers" can't do their basic job. Take gomez out of this as he's young and is being played out of position and played alongside garbage anyway. Matip, lovren and moreno are simply terrible, terrible footballers and no matter how long u coach them (and of course they are coaching, klopp and the staff believe it or not are not idiots and can see the problems) they are just not good players. They wudnt make it into teams in the bottom half of the premiership because those teams are actually well organised and wudnt stand for those sun standard performances. Lovren and Matip can't clear simple balls, they can't handle strikers with movement, pace or strength. What are their strengths meant to be? It isn't reading the game or communication either it's an absolute joke and they should be ashamed to collect their wage and put their manager in the firing line and allow him to take criticism. Surely there are defenders in the youth teams that could play instead of them.

Ugh sorry just sick of klopp getting the blame and watching those guys "perform" each week.

The manager is always responsible for results.

2.) 14 Sep 2017 05:25:49
It was Klopp that gave Lovren a new contract even after all his brain farts on the pitch. It was Klopp that bought Matip and Klavan. If not Klopp, then where do u expect the blame to be placed? Who was so adamant on VVD (even after the tapping up fiasco) that no alternatives were lined up?
Accept it mate, Klopp got it wrong, very wrong this summer. The recruitment was a shambles and our defense gets worse with each game. The blame lies solely at the manager's feet.
Or will u feel better if we blame the tea lady or groundsman for the team's failings?

3.) 14 Sep 2017 07:12:53
I agree that our defensive set up is not very good, but its not Klopps fault that defenders can't hit a ball coming straight at them, or defenders that are just ball watching and has no awereness at all. Yes he should habe bought in atleast a cb, but its not just snapping your fingers and a new player arrives. Players have to be able to do basic stuff on order to win matches.

4.) 14 Sep 2017 07:01:44
Two years after he arrived this is now Klopp's team. Just as he gets praise when the team plays well he gets criticism when it plays badly. As Ron says this is his responsibility. If the defenders aren't good enough then it's his job to tweak the tactics to give them more protection. I admire his commitment to his philosophy but you've got to be able to compromise when things aren't working.

{Ed025's Note - your right about that putney and defensively he has to improve, but the supporters need to get real and realize that they will not conquer all thats put before them and that they dont have a divine right to win every game, they are still a work in progress and im sure klopp knows his failings and wants to address them but it will take time and a bit of patience, i think you are going the right way and have a very good manager who given time will get it right, but there are a lot of other teams who are stronger im afraid mate..

5.) 14 Sep 2017 08:16:48
Brilliant post, Ed. Those saying "Klopp out" should make an offer FSG can't refuse, buy the club and then sack and sign whoever they want. If not, then keep quiet and allow the rest of us to have real debates on the issues.

Ed01 has said that Klopp wants to change all the CB's and is working on making them better on the pitch. Now did he make a mistake extending the contracts of Migs and Lovren? Absolutely as I would have binned Migs and kept Lovren as third choice. Matip is regressing, big time as well. You cannot buy a new back line in one window like City is doing dopping 300m on CB's and even they are still crap at the back. We have to stop thinking we are bigger and better than we are. WE ARE NOT.

We are a team that is slowly improving and hiccups will happen along the way. Look at Spurs. Poch has been there for 4 seasons now and STILL has not won a thing YET many rate him better than Klopp, who he can't even score a goal against. That is the LFC fan of today as well. The grass is always greener on the other side. GET A GRIP! .

We will be fine esp. if our strikers are on form cos had they been last night, we would not be wasting our time talking about this. We just have to keep working hard and moving forward until we get to where we want to get to.

{Ed025's Note - given time im sure klopp will get it right bingo..

We are going to struggle playing Saturday Wednesday Saturday and over the busy Christmas period this year with just 3 senior cbs. Even with gomez. Last year we didn't have that many games and we still struggled for depth and that was with lucas still there to cover.

Can see us doing well until those games start mounting up and that's when we will drift off the top and accumulate less points. When u are playing champions league, premiership, fa cup and league cup u need 4 senior cbs and one youngster to get the cup games and fill in/ substitute on and off.

If we had of asked anyone what is the position we needed to strengthen most we all would have said defensively, instead 2 wingers, 1 striker and a signing for next summer have come in. Very strange business. Looks like we are going to have to try to outscore teams again this season which is why if coutinho goes to Barcelona now tomorrow before their window shuts I'll be fuming. Don't let 4 - 0 against a woeful arsenal side fool u, we will still struggle to score against the teams who get men behind the ball and sit deep and coutinho will be needed to unlock them with good passes and goals.

How many players do you want, lucasleiva? We ahve a better squad than last season as Gomez and TAA are now part of the first team and Robbo has upgraded the LB position. Our midfield is well stocked and so is our forward line BUT hey, you can always have a good moan, can't you?

2.) 02 Sep 2017 15:09:25
Bingored don't even get me started I wasn't moaning about anything and I never once criticised how well stocked our midfield or front line is so I don't know why your trying to put words in my mouth to pick a selective argument that u were clearly after. I was simply talking about the defense which isn't well stocked enough in my opinion and hoping coutinho didn't go which he didn't so I'm happy with that.

Some people jump at the chance to start a fight once anyone vents an opinion on a site that is made for rumours and people's opinions, honest to god.

Away from all the rumours and news today, watching the debate on sky sports. is there a worse "pundit" than Phil neville? He honestly hasn't a clue what he's talking about ever!

1.) 28 Aug 2017 23:17:45
Steve Nicol is a complete embarrassment to anyone who has the misfortune of accidentally clicking a youtube video that he is in.

2.) 28 Aug 2017 23:18:05
Said continue woukdnt get in this team but Lallana would?
😂.

3.) 28 Aug 2017 23:27:54
Gary Neville, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher, Alan Shearer, Danny Murphy, Steve McManaman, Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Reknapp, David James, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Mark Lawrenson, Joey Barton, Ian Wright, Lee Dixon, Garth Crooks, Tony Cascarino, Paul Merson, Phil Thompson, Graeme Souness, Jermaine Jenas, and Roy Keane are all totally clueless as well. I turn them off or mute them. They are all just excessively opinionated Muppets who get plaudits purely for being overly critical or unnecessarily showering praise and someone who was actually poor so they can claim to have a superior understanding and tell anyone who disagrees that they don't know the game.

I personally think Gullit, T. Henry, Lampard, Gerrard and Keown are the best about right now. Hansen was great before he retired too.

4.) 28 Aug 2017 23:34:57
When the BBC had Leonardo on, I thought he was brilliant, so did my missus for non football reasons.

5.) 28 Aug 2017 23:38:42
Can't help but like Gary Neville, no matter how hard I try. Hate myself for it.

6.) 28 Aug 2017 23:36:46
Mk while I agree some of the ones u mentioned are bad, the ones u think are good are arguably worst than all if them 😂 t. henry definitely gives anyone a good run for their money when it comes to talking absolute tripe and having literally no opinion of his own! He just talks nonsense and then goes back on his word and agrees with other people and jump on there opinion, can't believe sky give him so many matches to cover.

7.) 28 Aug 2017 23:41:33
I quite like the MNF boys, even if one of ems a manc.

8.) 28 Aug 2017 23:44:40
MK out of that lot I'd swap Souness for Lampard. Most of the time I don't mind Phil N until he pairs up with his brother. Gerrard is a bit dry and flat for me. All time fav is Alan Hansen I reckon.

9.) 28 Aug 2017 23:53:28
Major correction I mean G Neville. 😮😮.

10.) 28 Aug 2017 23:56:42
I actually quite like Nicol. He's not a good pundit but he is a legend and he loves the club. Show some respect. He may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but he has some good points at times.

11.) 28 Aug 2017 23:57:41
Dunphy and johnny giles - they were priceless.

12.) 29 Aug 2017 00:18:51
Stuart Pearce. check out what he said about Arsenal after we beat them. i can't recall the exact comments as I had a wtf moment listening to him. Arsenals problems is they can't fix their problems or something like that. punditry at its best :/.

13.) 29 Aug 2017 00:08:57
Broken clocks right twice a day though eh TJ?

14.) 29 Aug 2017 00:52:59
Fine with Souness and Macca and Neville. Cara's ok as is Murphy. Rest I could do without. Particularly Owen and Savage.

15.) 29 Aug 2017 01:07:19
I like Alan Smith and his deadpan manner.

16.) 29 Aug 2017 02:51:23
Can't stand Andy Townshend doing commentry . you would've thought that he was a world beater the way he goes on.

Think Chelsea Barcelona and Tottenham will have a tough time getting out of their groups or certainly topping them! With atletico, roma, juventus, sporting, Madrid and dortmund those 3 groups could go either way depending on one or two results!

We should definitely be topping ours if our aim is to put a good run together in the champions league and if we do top it and avoid others who top theirs then u would suspect we could be faced against one of the follow in the round of 16; benfica, napoli, Monaco, and possibly psg or bayern as it's hard to call who will top that one and what way group d will go with Barcelona juve and sporting.

Great to see us back in there tho but and although the draw was kind to us it wasn't too bad on us last time around either when we failed to get thru it! This is the champions league for a reason, the best teams are in it! Even the ones u think u r going to roll over ie Maribo, they aren't in there for the fun of it and we have to go out there and beat them! It'll be a good test for our defense against these sides on big European nights both away and at anfield!

Let's hope for a busy few days ahead now with reenforcements coming in to help with a tough year of fixtures to come and a bit more quality to be introduced.

Sorry for the long post but bare with me and let me know ed01 and fans if u agree or disagree (its all about opinions at the end of the day with football) A few things on tonight's game.

Brilliant play for the goals could have had more but hoffenhim were a mess at the back and surprisingly for them really let themselves down defensively! Regardless, mane firmino and can in particular were outstanding!

I still maintain I'd like to see us with a striker in the Torres/ drogba/ costa/ van persie mould, someone who stays in the box and that all those teams who win the premiership have! Firmino could do a great job from a deeper free role, too often tonight when I looked up there was no one in the box and the players who were were mostly mane or salah who aren't the biggest and with Robertson delivery in the future a better target man and more traditional striker would be great to have in there who can reach 20+ goals.

Henderson had a great captains performance getting stuck in plenty, tidying up a lot of loose balls, and good passing range both long and short!

Taa excellent again both in defence and delivery into the box (again just wishing a traditional striker was in there more often)

Finally to end on a low unfortunately our defence is just a joke, I always feel like we are going to concede and that's not good enough! I've always given lovren the benefit of the doubt but tonight against really poor opposition who fortunately couldn't take all the chances they were presented, particular that gnarby lad, he was really poor and sloppy along with moreno. It's like they don't realise the importance of being solid at the back and what's at stake at times regardless of the scoreline! Those performances would stand for a conte, or pochetino or mourinho or most coaches at the top of the league or bottom for that matter!

However I still don't know if new defensive recruitment this summer will make a big difference! Not all the problems will be sorted and to be honest I'm not entirely sure what the problem is cos I'm not a manager or coach being paid top money! But the problem has been there for years now under klopp Rodgers Dalglish and Hodgson, the last manager to have put just as much effort into defense as the rest of the team was benetiz and that worked out well for a good while under him! We need to adapt our overall play aswell as some personnel in the team.

Anyway great to be back in the champions league really hope some depth is added now to that squad which is going to face a minimum extra 6 games now this season and hopefully more!

1.) 23 Aug 2017 22:58:28
You speak a lot of sense, but I am not sure if there is a better Number 9 for our system than Bobby F. The more static likes of Sturridge and Benteke cannot make it work. In terms of defence, Lovren has to be the most disappointing signing since Phil Babb - both were big money signings, and both proved to be seriously underpar.

2.) 23 Aug 2017 23:29:36
The one that springs to my mind is Harry Kane. He grinds all the time, and works really hard for his team. And, bare the month of August, he is lethal.

Is that realistic? Nah.

3.) 24 Aug 2017 00:55:36
I actually like the look of Solanke - works hard upfront and a useful CF, but for now Firmino every time. We're not struggling to score and he was involved in most of our best moves and goals today.

4.) 24 Aug 2017 03:20:11
Benitez was lucky enough to have Carragher already at the club. Sami, Agger and Skrtel were all decent, but I think Carra's leadership and organizational qualities helped solidify the defense under Rafa's reign. Pepe Reina was brilliant also - nearly forgot about him. So Rafa deserves some credit, definitely, but I wonder if we'd have been so solid for such a long time without Carra?

We have missed a huge opportunity. We finished 4th last season with near enough the same squad as now, do the club not realise this is going to be a tougher season playing weekend and mid week? Do they not want to push on? Not only is it going to be tougher physically with the added games but also with our rivals strengthening. Chelsea won the league and still strengthened some areas. We finish 4th and seem happy to go into the new season with the same weaknesses we had last year? It just seems strange to me I hope I'm wrong but come the Christmas period I can really see that squad struggling for depth and legs to get us over the line in some games. A title challenge is way off the mark this season unfortunately unless things dramatically change over the next week.
