Hi Eds and Reds, does anyone know if we are interested in Menez?

Thanks in advance

poisonz

{Ed001's Note - which Menez? Jeremy? I know he has been put up for sale now to fund Milan's rebuild and been offered around, I honestly have no idea if he would be of interest as a cheap option instead of Benteke. Personally I would hope so, it would make more sense to me.}

Thanks eds. Yes i was asking about jeremy.
Thanks mate

Looks like source of the story is Calicio Mercato Web - never heard of them before so not sure if they are reliable or the Italian equivalent of TalkSport!

The gossip is being reproduced in various UK online & offline media outles - Express, Metro etc.

{Ed001's Note - they are just repeating the information he has been made available with a link to a big club that would seem believable to get maximum exposure for the story, I would say.}

Never seen him play, Ed001, so would appreciate your view if you have (and have time!).

Looks like he was used more as a playmaker in his earlier career but in his last year at Milan has hit more goals in a season than before - 16 in 33. However half of them were from pens.

Difficult to get a view on him as a player just from the stats, so any extra insight appreciated! His stats certainly seem worse than Benteke's, and he's a few years older and not used to EPL. But he will likely come for 1/3 of the price.

{Ed001's Note - last I saw him play was before he moved to Italy, so it could be a bit out of date, but he looked a mobile big man with a good touch. Played a number of different attacking roles if memory serves me correctly, wide as well as central. Looked to be capable of holding the ball up.}

Thanks for that Ed001. Combining with what the guys are saying on Adam's thread in banter, it certainly seems like he could offer us quite a lot for a lot less money. If its true, of course!

5.) 16 Jul 2015 12:24:58
You clearly ahve never seen him play. he's decent but you can't even compare him to Benteke, he's about a foot shorter and is closer to Coutinho or Lallana. he's never going to Liverpool doesn't fit the age or position profile of what's needed.

6.) 16 Jul 2015 13:49:51
Sean, menez is a few inches shorter than benteke, so still 6" and more mobile and versatile, it is a move that would make sense to me but I todo think it would be a risky transfer

7.) 16 Jul 2015 17:05:44
Benteke at 32.5mil is a more than risky transfer! he's not proven internationally and is very injury prone. As for Menez I still don't think you can compare the two, he's far more mobile than Benteke who is just a target man, his mobility is being far overplayed. All Villa do is pump crosses and long ball into him. That would hardly be BR's style of football, which Andy Carrol was deemed unsuited to, as did Ricky Lambert last year.

Arsenal, spurs and then Chelsea. First away games of the season for Liverpool.

At least we can get them out the way.

2.) 15 Jun 2016 09:35:36
Arsenal away, Burley, Spurs away, Leicester, Chelsea away, hull, swansea and then Man U!

Well we may as well have some of the hardest games first!

3.) 15 Jun 2016 09:53:54
Getting them out the way is one thing, but football is about momentum. Better to start with easier games and get points on table.

Having said that arsenal don't start great.

4.) 15 Jun 2016 09:55:52
On a plus note the last 9 games of our title run in don't look to bad.

5.) 15 Jun 2016 10:24:59
Hopefully we'll have a fully fit squad for most of the early big games for once!

6.) 15 Jun 2016 10:41:29
What real difference does it make? we have to play every team twice. That's it. Could say momentum is key. but with these games grouped together it means we should have a run of games the are supposedly not as difficult. all swings and roundabouts.

7.) 15 Jun 2016 11:39:31
Chances are that all players will be fit and injury-free at the beginning of the season so its always the best time to play the stronger teams.

8.) 15 Jun 2016 12:05:53
Annie Fields. therefore all the stronger teams will have all there players fit too. I wouldn't say the start of the season is a good time for players. maybe pick up knocks and strains after being off, and not being match fit.
