Hey Ed002

With Salah likely to move on next summer, do you know who Liverpool have an eye or scouted? Would love a list like you do.

I really hope we are looking at Kubo.

Many Thanks.

red_aimar

{Ed002's Note - It is a tough call and no doubt the club will be doing the rounds. This is a little vague right now, but:
Jarrod Bowen (RW) Very much liked by KLopp but to me a surprise potential replacement for Salah.
Luiz Henrique (RW) Aston Villa had a bid rejected in January but maintain an interest. I am not aware of an approach by Liverpool but he would provide good cover for Salah and has been scouted.
Leroy Sane (RW) Available at the right price but TT wants to keep him. Middle East might be the only viable solution with Al Nassr. Perhaps one to replace Salah when the time comes.
Raphinha (RW/LW) Has struggled to displace Dembele or Ansu Fati on a regular basis and will be sold if Barcelona can recover the fee they paid for him, else they will keep him. Newcastle may be an option. Even Arsenal perhaps. I am not aware of Liverpool making any approach but they have been interested in the past - there would be better Salah replacements out there.
Johan Bakayoko (RW) Cost effective solution for PSG but may stuggle to be a starter and that will put the player off. Crystal Palace, Napoli and Burnley have expressed an interest. Everton have a horribly lopsided set of wingers but have not made any approach as I understand it. If Liverpool are interested it would be as a replacement for Salah but there will be far better, albeit far more expensive, options available. Wildcard may be Newcastle but it would only make sense if there were a departure.
Marcus Edwards (RW/AM) Spurs would like to resign the player they let leave for Guimaraes and there is interest from West Ham, but that will go nowhere. Discussed with Chelsea on an informal basis and on the list of RW/AM players Chelsea need still this summer - previously headed by Michael Olise. Could prove a suitable Salah replacement for Liverpool but Sporting will have no interest in dealing with Liverpool. Sporting has no interest in selling and would demand his full release clause in a single payment.

Takefusa Kubo (RW/LW) Move has worked out well for him. Real Madrid may look to invoke their buy-back option which is about half his buy out clause. This season is going well for him and I doubt he would want to return to RM. Liverpool has shown no interest.}

1.) 24 Sep 2023 21:30:08
Saka if they can get him out of Arsenal or maybe Mitoma?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

2.) 24 Sep 2023 21:30:22
Doesn’t look like an awful lot out there to be honest, nobody can replace his quality now and there’s little who look like they have it in them to potentially reach a similar level either.

3.) 25 Sep 2023 00:41:48
Has anyone seen his Instagram post? seems like he wants to extend.

4.) 25 Sep 2023 03:23:41
I think Liverpool should give Salah a two-year extension. He seems possessed this season, like he all. of a sudden have something special to prove. I'm no tactician, but I thought Salah defended more today and attempted more ball recoveries deep into our own half today than I've seen him in a long time.
I may just be naive but the guy seems to be up to something this season.
Long may it continue. If we're still competitive by the end of October, then I'll start to really get excited.
YNWA.

5.) 25 Sep 2023 00:39:31
Ed, when you say "far better, albeit far more expensive, options available" which player do you refer to?

{Ed002's Note - I have been through this previously.}

6.) 25 Sep 2023 00:47:50
Has Yeremy Pino been of interest recently and do you think he would be a good fit?

Thanks in advance!

{Ed002's Note - Yeremy Pino (RW/LW/AM) His agent spoke with Manchester City and Chelsea last summer about the player but Pino agreed a new contract at Villareal with a significant €80M buy-out clause and a contract to 2027. Manchester City have other targets to replace Mahrez. Chelsea have kept him on a list of potential wide players at the behest of an ex-player who was offered the job of DoF at the club. Barcelona opted for Raphina but would now be happy to move him on. His agent also spoke with Manchester United and proposed him as a potential Sancho replacement. Was orginally the first choice replacement for Pepe at Arsenal but is no longer, although they may retain an interest. Real Madrid have him on their lengthy list of potential replacesments for Eden Hazard. Prior interest of Liverpool as a Salah replacement will have gone.}

7.) 25 Sep 2023 01:45:38
Mate chiesa? too injured?

{Ed002's Note - Predominently a LW.}

8.) 25 Sep 2023 07:27:06
Thanks for the in-depth reply as always Ed002. I understand it’s pure conjecture at this point but do you envisage a scenario where Salah extends his contract?

{Ed002's Note - I think that unlikely.}

9.) 25 Sep 2023 00:56:35
Oh and I forget to ask about Ferran Torres.

He looks ideal for Liverpool but I think he really wants to make it work at Barca.

Much thanks!

(. from the search I saw some chatter in August but nothing definitive regarding availability or Liverpool interest)

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown no interest.}

10.) 25 Sep 2023 09:00:30
Just keep salah.

11.) 25 Sep 2023 10:51:53
How about Rafael Leao Ed would there be any chance? Any chatter of an extension for Salah and one last tilt at the CL?

{Ed002's Note - No and he plays as a LW. Liverpool has no interest.}

12.) 25 Sep 2023 13:22:45
At risk of yet more random names, how about Xavi Simon?

{Ed002's Note - No, Liverpool has no interest.}

13.) 25 Sep 2023 13:03:33
I don't want Saka anywhere near the club. He just dives and falls all over the place whenever he feels contact with another player.

As for Salah, I always envisaged a scenario where he would leave next summer. There's been a lot of talk about moving to Saudi, but can you honestly see that happening? He's still got a couple years left at the top level and to move to Saudi now (the pensioners league) will be a massive step down, even if it is for massive money. If he chooses Saudi, it's not going to be for footballing reasons. He's better staying with us for another couple of years and cementing his status as a liverpool legend.

14.) 25 Sep 2023 16:22:00
Does Klopp have the the kvrazies for kvaratskhelia?

{Ed002's Note - No. And he plays in a different position.}

15.) 25 Sep 2023 16:48:20
Oh, I am aware. I saw some writers/ observers I consider reasonably trustworthy linking us to him and thought that didn't remotely make sense. Thanks for the note! First I've seen him discussed credibly. Appreciate it as always.

16.) 25 Sep 2023 18:20:50
Salah can goto SA at a similar age to Benzema, if the farmers league has not been swallowed up by quick sand by then.

17.) 25 Sep 2023 19:46:13
I think he’s simply too good to go to Saudi.

Since the day he pulled on that Liverpool shirt he’s been one of the best on the planet and still is to this day.

18.) 25 Sep 2023 21:05:22
Hi Ed would Florian Wirtz be a potential option?

{Ed002's Note - I don’t think Liverpool are looking to move Mac Allister on.}

19.) 26 Sep 2023 06:31:43
Salah would goto SA to fund hospitals and schools in Egypt, rather than for footballing reasons. Before then he has a few records to break.

20.) 26 Sep 2023 03:14:59
Who would your choice be as a replacement Ed?

Mbuemo has looked good for me but don’t know if he’s good enough to compete at the highest level on a consistent basis.

{Ed002's Note - Marcus Edwards would, to me, be an excellent option. And Home Grown.}

21.) 26 Sep 2023 15:08:04
What is Edwards’ release clause Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - €60M with half going to Spurs. The problem will be the reluctance of his club to deal with Liverpool.}

22.) 27 Sep 2023 01:04:35
Hi Ed002. I'm pretty sure you said around the time that salah was extending his contract that diaby would be the preferred replacement should he not. With him moving to villa only this year would there be any chance of liverpool looking at him, even if it meant offering a massive transfer fee or would they be looking for a cheaper alternative option?

No worries if you can't answer. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - He would have been an option but is no longer.}

23.) 27 Sep 2023 09:24:53
Bowen would be a great fit IMO.

24.) 27 Sep 2023 16:18:49
Is Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao an option too? He's played on the left wing for spain lately, but I believe he does it mostly on the right for his club.

{Ed002's Note - Try searching.}

25.) 28 Sep 2023 19:02:41
Kubo will be bullied in english league, his built too smalll.

26.) 29 Sep 2023 20:05:04
Ben Doak looks good.

01 Sep 2023 12:53:53
Hey Eds, do u think it might be wise to get a right winger/ forward Asap or wait for next window.

Because Worst case scenario, European transfer window close and Saudi Arabia make an offer hard to turn down or salah pushes for move, we accept and we don't have a natural right winger/ forward.

Or do you think, even if we were to sell salah after our transfer window close, we will be ok and can reasses next window.

red_aimar

{Ed002's Note - I would not advocate buying for the sake of it so it would need to be a player considered before. Perhaps someone versatile enough to still be used once a replacement is found.}

1.) 01 Sep 2023 14:30:10
Marcus Edwards of sporting? is there a release clause in his contract?! is there enough time to complete now?! thanks Eds for all your hard work.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has no interest in him.}

2.) 01 Sep 2023 14:37:01
Sky sports reporting that they will come back in with an improved bid as they are receiving encouragement from inside Mo’s camp.

{Ed002's Note - What a shock.}

3.) 01 Sep 2023 14:44:33
Edd002 is bakayoko achievable soo late of salahs sold?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, but it needs doing now.}

4.) 01 Sep 2023 14:47:01
Just imagine the signal you’d send to your fans if you sell your best player hours before the window closes, all without a world class replacement lined up. The player is tempted with the amount of money being offered — the onus now rests heavily on Liverpool to act like the big club they are.

5.) 01 Sep 2023 14:50:48
Deep breaths everybody. Same logic applies with Mo as has always applied. If the player wants to leave then don’t let the door hit you on the ar#e. Personally I hope he wants to stay but if someone was offering me £1.5m a week tax free for the next three years and free flights for me and the family for the rest of my life, I know what I would do.

The thing is whoever comes or goes Liverpool FC will endure.

6.) 01 Sep 2023 14:56:17
Why won’t they over him that next season?

7.) 01 Sep 2023 14:58:46
Brennan Johnson.

8.) 01 Sep 2023 15:03:36
It could be a breathe of fresh air when we do bits this season and can say to the other fans look at our net spend. Delicious.

Sometimes it's time. We don't even play how we need to anymore. To get the best out of Mo. He's better getting in behind than be is one on one.

It's certainly not Mane firmino Salah (prime) . Sad but true. People forget how insanely good they were. We had defenders changing undies at half time. Game after game.

They made Pep create the greatest ever team. Lived in his went free. Champions league etc etc.

I'd go for it and just release ourselves from the burden. Promote elliot or play szob on the right.

Or nunez gakpo diaz.

9.) 01 Sep 2023 15:11:55
“Promote Elliot”

And how long will that last before the fans are out for blood?

Let’s be real!

10.) 01 Sep 2023 15:14:39
Greatest ever team? Really?

11.) 01 Sep 2023 15:24:43
I would argue against the “best player” tag some give. He is one of a number of important world class players Liverpool have or have had. He is also past his prime (before the backlash please let me explain I am not saying he is not STILL of a quality that any top 6 squad would benefit immensely from but his very best years have gone)! Moreover part of his best is due to the way he has been managed, coached, nurtured and also by virtue of the team / squad around him. He was definitely not the player at chelsea nor even Roma that he has been at liverpool - he’s 31 now and he won’t be that player in the prem for years to come - we all have to hand over the baton when time is up!

12.) 01 Sep 2023 15:33:15
All well and good saying take the money but its up to the player, at Liverpool there's something to play for, the prem, europa plus domestic cups, qualify for champs lge, in all honesty 1.5m a week is mind blowing money but what on earth other than money is there to play for in the Saudi lge its not as if they will be playing for champs lge or anything other. Yes its a Muslim country and a deserved golden handshake for mo but what is there to achieve. He still has a lot to offer us and a lot he could win with us. Other than money the Saudi lge offers nothing.

13.) 01 Sep 2023 15:35:22
imo if salah personally wants to go, we have to let him go and wish him all the best and just try to get as much as possible for him . have enough players to cover the front three till January if we can't get a replacement tonight.

14.) 01 Sep 2023 15:42:20
I’m with you metro. He is defs past his best and only go further downhill from here. I would take the money and move on. We aren’t winning the league this year anyway and could get top 4 without him and have money to build the rest of the squad further. He will need to go next year anyway.

15.) 01 Sep 2023 16:20:09
No such thing as a Salah replacement ? but money talks.

16.) 01 Sep 2023 16:22:56
Nonsense to sell your best player (s) . Success breads success. Keep your best players until they ain't the best any longer.

Get in the CL for next year and perhaps win a trophy or even the league. The club then sells itself to future players, managers, fans and whoever.

Build the momentum.

17.) 01 Sep 2023 16:40:27
We've got Mo's replacememt though.

Gravenberch into CM and Szobo into RW. unless Palinha doesn't go to Fulham, which in that ase it's Mo goes nowhere and Gravenberch goes back to Tuchel.

18.) 01 Sep 2023 17:42:09
I think if Saudi's go stupid money with guaranteed amounts over 150 million plus easily attainable 50 million in add ons, our ownership will take the money.

19.) 01 Sep 2023 18:58:45
Lindstrom was being mentioned a lot here a few weeks ago. Just signed for Napoli, could have been a player we could have looked to if Mo does go. Never really confirmed though that or if he was a target.

Does anybody else find theredmentv absolute tosh? I was watching some videos today and the stuff they say ?‍♂️.

red_aimar

1.) 16 Jul 2023 19:21:29
Yeah. Click bait rubbish most of the time.
It’s a bit of a shame though, they should be a half decent little fan channel but they just post rubbish for clicks.

2.) 16 Jul 2023 19:33:41
Some of it is, I think ultimately they’re quite close to the club in terms of relationships with Journos and former players, so to a degree they have to ‘tow (toe? ) a party line’.

3.) 16 Jul 2023 22:30:07
I think they started out well enough. I guess the change comes when you make the transition from being simply a couple of fans streaming from your bedroom, to a more professional outfit trying to compete with bigger channels. I think they’ve fallen into the trap of feeling they have to churn out content several times day because they want to keep up with others. So they end to posting empty content with hyped up titles about a subject that’s been done to death. I do like the original pair that started it but I think the quality has become very diluted.

4.) 17 Jul 2023 11:03:33
I think the young girl they have doing stuff is just painful, she just spouts absolute nonsense followed by completely contradict nonsense a few seconds later. I am not sure how she got involved but I think she has lowered the quality of the content a lot by herself.

14 Jun 2021 11:43:39
Away goal rules are scrapped, i'm really disappointed by this change. away goal rules make european competition even better. what do people reckon? good change or stupid change?

red_aimar

1.) 14 Jun 2021 11:58:40
Better for competition but ofcourse the people on here are concerned about extra play time destroying careers.

2.) 14 Jun 2021 12:07:13
It's not the end of the world and maybe it's fairer?
I was quite happy with the away goals rule though, made things exciting!

3.) 14 Jun 2021 12:17:44
I can’t see the problem with away goals as it works equally for both teams. Adds to the excitement too. I guess it’ll mean more extra time and penalties. That in itself is unfair because the team playing home second has the advantage of being at home because you won’t take penalties in both grounds. So actually you’ve now introduced a bias which wasn’t there.

4.) 14 Jun 2021 12:40:09
I have to disagree with you their RazorSharp.

Currently, if a tie goes to Extra Time in the champions league. The away team in the 2nd leg has a huge advantage. As per our tie with Atletico last year.

They get an extra 30 minutes for an away goal.

5.) 14 Jun 2021 13:08:55
I like the rule but agree with lamborini that after the second 90 minutes it shouldn't count because its clear advantage. Otherwise I would have liked the rule to stay. I can see this result in teams away just sitting back. Will make European football less exciting imo.

6.) 14 Jun 2021 13:13:49
I just think we’ll see an extremely negative away team approach to ties now. I don’t why they couldn’t just tweak the rule so that away goals advantage ends at 90 mins.

7.) 14 Jun 2021 13:32:57
It seems like a way to get more extra time and penalty shootouts in games, meaning more tv time, meaning more revenue from the likes of betting companies who will want to make more money on people betting on who’s going to score penalties, how many will be saved, how many will be taken with a left foot etc etc.

8.) 14 Jun 2021 13:37:30
Away goal is rubbish, play 90 mins both home and away so not needed. Sick of teams getting knocked out when the tie is a draw on away goals. Would prefer a clear winner.

9.) 14 Jun 2021 15:41:41
People complain about penalties but there a lot fairer than away goals. I have never been a fan of a team going out that way don’t think it makes games better a lot if the time just makes the home team in the second leg if closes nervous sometimes thinking if the concede one there in big trouble by adding 2 goals to the amount they need.

10.) 14 Jun 2021 15:43:04
It's not like a goal away from home isn't something to try and obtain, so I don't see the problem with doing away with it. At the end of the day, a goal should count as a goal, not "a goal and a wee bit" if it's scored away from home.

11.) 14 Jun 2021 18:05:01
I fully agree with the change and have thought about it for years prior. Why should the away team have the advantage in the second leg of winning a game on the away goals rule after scoring a goal in extra time, whereas the home team did not have that advantage in the first leg as the away team. It is not fair, IMO.

As it stands, no team gets that advantage. If either team cannot do the job after 99 mins at either ground and it goes to extra time then, NO team should get ANY advantage based on the away goals rule. Extra time then means new game, clean slate. If the away team is mad about it then, they had a chance to finish the job on their ground and they couldn’t. Tough luck. Or we go straight to penalties after 90 mins in both legs and at both grounds. That would even be fairer.

12.) 14 Jun 2021 18:05:55
If it's not broken then why fix it that rule has been in for years like it or not it works.

13.) 15 Jun 2021 00:51:28
I think we will see a lot more extra time which equals more playing time for the players.

Chance of less magic moments.

"Corner taken quickly"

12 Dec 2020 12:40:37
I just want to appreciate Daniel agger on his birthday today. He was one of my favourite Liverpool players growing, good ball playing centreback with great passing and shooting. I just want to know peoples and Ed's opinion on him? What did u think of him as a player. Also to add I believe he loves Liverpool, he has ynwa tattoo on him and also rejected many big money offers from big sides such as Barcelona? Is that right?

red_aimar

1.) 12 Dec 2020 12:52:33
I loved him too mate, thought he was a quality player. Only downside was the injuries unfortunately.

But always great to see a guy from overseas come over and become a adopted Scouser.

2.) 12 Dec 2020 12:52:53
Top quality player when he was fit, but by Jaysus did he rack up some amount of injuries. I'd say only Aurelio topped him for fragility.

Was he just unlucky or did he not look after himself properly? Shame he had to retire at 31 essentially because the painkillers he was taking to keep playing were screwing him up.

3.) 12 Dec 2020 12:53:35
Great player. Absolutely loved him just unfortunate the amount of injuries he had.

4.) 12 Dec 2020 12:58:28
I loved Agger but unfortunately injuries buggered him.

5.) 12 Dec 2020 14:06:51
Like Aurelio, he was very good whenever he was fit, which was not as often as anyone hoped.

{Ed0666's Note - he may have been made of paper but he was damn loyal. Loved Liverpool and the club. One of those players you’d wanna go for a pint with.

6.) 12 Dec 2020 22:00:39
Always stopped at melwood to sign autographs too, a real top bloke.

{Ed0666's Note - and a liverbird tattooed on his hand

7.) 13 Dec 2020 00:33:58
His goal against West ham (I think) was special. Very good, elegant player. He and carra were an excellent partnership until fitness issues.

{Ed0666's Note - imagine a fit Daniel Agger..wow.

23 Feb 2018 09:47:18
hello eds.

just a bit of question. How close were we to sign david villa, david silva or even mata when it was benitez era. I remember constantly seeing these names linked esp david villa. imagine villa, torres, gerrard, Alonso in their prime. woww

thanks.

red_aimar

{Ed001's Note - Silva and Villa were all agreed but the club refused to pay the money.

Mata was never close, he was interested (as I revealed at the time only for certain other journalists to c'n'p my exclusive and claim it as their own) and the club considered him but then Chelsea came in for him and we were out of it.}

1.) 23 Feb 2018 09:58:32
Blimey, how close. That team would have been truly special.

2.) 23 Feb 2018 10:36:03
Silva would've been my pick out of all three, he is truly something special, I'd still have him in the team even now. Such a shame we lost out on him.

3.) 23 Feb 2018 10:43:16
No one really knows how things would have worked out had they come, IMO even tho both players would have definitely improved us at the time. Same for Salah. had he come in 13/ 14, we would definitely not have had the Salah we know and love today as he was just 21 at the time and still learning the game (Sigh) .

4.) 23 Feb 2018 12:28:32
Oh man what a team we could have! Torres Villa Silva Gerrard Xabi Mascherano Arbeloa Aurelio Carragher Hyppia Reina!

5.) 23 Feb 2018 15:01:52
2005 was right platform for us to build, we could have done something special under Benitez if not for hicks and Gillette.

6.) 23 Feb 2018 17:31:25
To be fair, Shreyan, Hicks and Gillett, sheisters thou they undeniably are, didn't take over the club until 2007.

David Moores is the one you want to look at for not building on 2005. He was only interested in extracting the maximum value for himself from any potential sale.

7.) 24 Feb 2018 00:16:55
Dani Alves as well if I remember right.

20 Feb 2018 11:10:29
Hello EDs and fellow lfc fans.

I just wanted to ask a question. this may happen or may not, but just wanted to know who would miss out?

if Liverpool were to miss out on top 4 and win champions league, arsenal win Europa league, and pl top 4 are man c, man u, Chelsea, spurs.

who would qualify for champions league next year? thanks. may b stupid question.

red_aimar

{Ed002's Note - Spurs in fourth would miss out.}

1.) 20 Feb 2018 12:48:14
Pretty much, Ed. Those who won the trophies needed to get into the CL next season like CL winners and EL winners, will not be dumped for a team that won a "4th place" trophy. That seems to make sense.

2.) 20 Feb 2018 15:37:46
Happened before with Everton, that was so sweet! Not to mention funny. I can just imagine Everton fans faces when that verdict came through.

3.) 20 Feb 2018 16:12:46
If I was Aguero I'd have roundhoused him to the face. Disgrace of a fan, everyone should have the right to do their job without an utter gobshite screaming in their face. No sympathy for any fan that behaves like that. And with respect, any kid that watches football sees and hears far worse throughout the game. I can't remember a time when going to a game the away end are doing nothing other than screaming vile abuse.

4.) 20 Feb 2018 17:58:02
I would love that to happen to spurs, there comeuppance is long overdue, and no im not bitter about that draw, another set of media darlings who are hugely overhyped, can they go 1 game without falling over? he who lives by the sword, dies by the sword, let's see how they deal with being on the wrong end of a player cheating.

5.) 20 Feb 2018 18:34:31
Too right king Kenny. Well said mate. Spurs ain't all that, kane is good and Ali and erikson are too, without those they would be of Everton level. We are different class to them. And we were robbed.

6.) 20 Feb 2018 19:09:37
thanks Supersalah the way the media goes on about them you would have thought they are the runaway leaders, they still have work to do against juventus, there trophy cabinet is as empty as ours as well.

7.) 20 Feb 2018 19:16:30
Alli is a disgrace of a player. im so happy Liverpool didn't go for him.

8.) 20 Feb 2018 19:44:59

We aren’t as world class at diving as Kane and Alli are, that’s for sure.

fair enough with your comments ed. and I can understand where u r coming from but also understand why some people here don't like the things u say or mainly how you say it. my question to u then is? who would u sign for as lb then?

{Ed002's Note - They are brainless cretins RA, just ignore them. Sessegnon is a wonderful talent which is why there is som much interest in him - but he is not one to be throw in the the Premier League as a starter. Liverpool are very interested and would do better to come up with a proposal that sees him loaned back for a year or two. I had proposed that Liverpool looked to Ryan Bertrand previously but they didn't do it - he would have been a great long term solution. Pushing for Sead Kolasinac when Liverpool had the chance would have been another very good solution - Faouzi Ghoulam and Gaya are both likely to move this summer - but both could be beyond probably Liverpool. Ricardo Pereira is a player the club really likes and can play in either full back position - he would be a good solution now.}
