i think getting a LB is a must. Pool can move JM to RB. a natural great crosser with his right foot. This is what lacking in Cylne which we had seen for past season.

I completely agree. I also don't get why people are so critical of Robertson though. I'm not accusing you by the way, just bringing it up as you mentioned left backs.

He is a very solid left back, with a very good delivery from wide areas. I'm sure some statistician will try and tell me he only got one assist last season but what was he supposed to do? Go on a one man run through 4 players and then cross in to a player who wasn't there? Hull were absolutely terrible and Robertson was the light in the dark for them after Snodgrass left. I think surrounded by a higher quality of players will bring out all of his abilities.

With Mane and Salah both incredibly adept at attacking the back post, we need fullbacks who can whip in a first time cross to create a bit of havoc. Robertson down the left with Arnold/ Milner down the right would be a massive improvement going forward, and no worse defensively; if anything slightly better.

You are right though, a left back has to be priority.

{Ed001's Note - when was Robertson the light in the dark for them? Grosicki and Markovic were the ones that gave them hope, maybe even Maguire, but not Robertson. He had a poor season.}

I don't get this solid quote for Robertson, he looks anything but solidly defensively. I personally hope we don't get him but I will support him if he arrives, he's still young and should improve surrounded by better players.

3.) 14 Jun 2017 09:00:06
All about opinions Ed. I thought it was Robertson and to some extent Niasse personally, judging off what I saw of Hull. Maguire is like a very poor mans David Luiz in my opinion. Markovic and Grosicki usually just put their heads down and got ran off the ball she ever I saw them play.

Robertson was solid defensively though and got forward as well as you can when constantly under pressure. Niasse occassionally showed up as well but never consistently scored goals.

{Ed001's Note - I do not rate Maguire, but he is a better player than Robertson. Robertson is far from solid defensively and had plenty of opportunities to get forward but his delivery was mostly hopeless the moment he got put under pressure. Hull's fullbacks were their weakest link.}

4.) 14 Jun 2017 09:16:06
Have to agree with Ed on that one, Robertson didn't stand out at all.

5.) 14 Jun 2017 09:22:36
Admittedly I know nothing about what makes a good left back and I didn't watch much of Hull last season. But, if Robertson can in fact cross well (a few posters have said he can) then in my opinion he will be an upgrade.

At the moment we have two full backs that are suspect in defence and worse at final dilevery. I think buying a lb who can cross and switching milner to rb will be an improvement. At least in an attacking sense where we would be able to put decent crosses in from both sides.

I have not seen anything of Solanke play but other strikers (less so sturridge) are all pretty good in the air and good crosses may help us break down teams who sit deep and stay compact.

No worries L4L. Respect that.

Ed001 I'm surprised you'd say that. If I was taking that job I'd rip up pretty much the whole team except for Niasse, Robertson, Mason and Jakupovic. Possibly Grosicki and Ranaocchia as they are in their first 6 months in England.

I think midfield was their main weakness. With Mason injured they just couldn't keep the ball.

{Ed001's Note - Clucas was one of, probably their best player, yet you have not even mentioned him. Their team was what it was, a team to get promoted with a bunch of desperate January additions. However their fullbacks were the point of vulnerability that every opponent got at them through, even though Silva tried to help that with the wingers playing in front. Robertson is not a top class left back, he is one of those players who are just not quite Premier League class but too good for the Championship.}

7.) 14 Jun 2017 10:33:25
I didn't really take to Clucas. He is one of those players who tries too much when he should keep it simple.

He reminded me of Jack Wilshere at times with his carelessness and poor position so sense. I don't think he is Premier league quality.

{Ed001's Note - and yet you rate the positionally clueless Robertson?}

8.) 14 Jun 2017 10:56:45
That I do Ed haha.

9.) 14 Jun 2017 11:29:00
Cannot believe there are actually LFC fans that would want Robertson anywhere near LFC. When did Roy Hodgson come back and pick LFC's transfer targets?
This Robertson case has Paul Konchesky written all over it. He could not handle the pressure at Hull, and he certainly won't at LFC. 6 months later, he will be shipped off to a championship club after a series of poor performances once the fans get on his back. A couple of years later, people will forget we actually signed Robertson once upon a time. In the meanwhile, Klopp will continue LFC's long awaited pursuit of a half decent LB since Fabio Aurelio.
Someone should tell the club to just pay up for Mendy and not have to worry about the LB position for the next 5-6 years.

10.) 14 Jun 2017 11:51:04
I can't even believe this is a discussion.

Mendy is sitting over in monaco twiddling his thumbs.

Pay the fee what evrr it is that lad is beyond good.

11.) 14 Jun 2017 12:33:48
Mk Robertson hS been terrible defensively positioning all over the place.

12.) 14 Jun 2017 12:42:24
Can't understand why you rate Robertson for the life of me MK, sometimes it feels like you just like the player because we are linked with them to try and justify the signing.

I don't rate him at all, his crossing is bang average, as is his touch, his 1v1 defending and his positioning, all round average player and we should be aiming for better.

13.) 14 Jun 2017 12:52:19
Didn't he have one assist, Robertson - as an attacking left back, even a team that generally struggled for goals, that is poor - rather keep milner.

14.) 14 Jun 2017 13:06:45
I agree with ed on this one, every time I've seen Robertson play for hull or Scotland I've never been impressed by him. He is just a standard left back that has no real strengths. He is at his level at the moment I believe, we can't be taking punts on players like this anymore, we're a champions league team hoping to compete and hopefully secure CL football again, not go back to mid table mediocrity. For too long we have been targeting players of Robertson calibre, and now we have the opppertunity to stop that. I know we have to work within our means to an extent but the standards should not drop that far, especially for a priority position.

15.) 14 Jun 2017 13:12:56
With supermane here, top player available in a position we need. Come on LFC, get the deal done.

16.) 14 Jun 2017 12:43:43
The next two years, until Neymar and co start piping up how'd they'd love Mendy at Barcelona and we sell up ;)

17.) 14 Jun 2017 19:13:40
Rather mendy for 2 years than Robertson sitting on the bench for 5.
