Are we interested in either Bowen or Gimenez?

24 Apr 2024 15:19:55
Hi ed,

If the usuals are still in charge of transfers, does that mean that the likes of Inacio and Sane are still the main targets?

Cheers.

 1

{Ed002's Note - Interest will remain but I rather doubt either will arrive.}

 2

24 Apr 2024 16:01:26
Because they were mainly Klopp targets?

Do you know who is more-likely, is that impossible to call without the new manager?

 0

{Ed002's Note - I have been through this already.}

24 Apr 2024 16:02:32
Will geertruida be an option ed? also wieffer and hancko be of interest to us? Geertruida seems like a good bet with endo too as slot likes 2 dms? got to admit im not best with tactics like u all eds are tho. but just suggested geertruida as he can play cb, dm and rb.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has never shown any interest in Geertruida or Wieffer. Hencko has been watched and would be a good van Dijk replacement.}

 2

24 Apr 2024 16:44:36
Sane was always mentioned as a Salah replacement Ed seeing as he can play either side do you think he could replace Diaz.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Jota and Gakpo could cover the LW if Diaz departs. There are a number of options to replace Salah.}

 3

24 Apr 2024 17:42:41
Hopefully all interest in Sane dies off. Too old, poor attitude and has said on numerous occasions that he has no interest in playing for us. And quite honestly for what Bayern want for him we can get a lot better.

 0

24 Apr 2024 18:00:32
If slot comes in I'd hope we get bakayoko in to replace Salah. Very young and raw with a impressive ga ratio. He's probably the best player in Dutch football right now and he's what 20/ 21? Surely a fee similar to what we paid for gakpo and offloading Salah makes sense.

24 Apr 2024 18:30:59
After last season's midfield makeover, to the value of close to 150m, one would imagine that this coming summer could be a low-key affair as far as transfers go, with Slot expected to develop the main squad and best youth players, of which there are a fair few.

With Matip, Thiago, Mo and Adrian likely to leave, that's a fair bit off the wage bill, so surely there is some money available, but I do not imagine it will be a big spend.

CB/ RW most likely incomings, aside from replacing Kelleher and Kostas, should they leave?

 1

24 Apr 2024 12:31:36
Left field question.

Ed2, as you called the Slot option a while back, have you had any direct or indirect influence in him becoming of interest to Liverpool?

 1

{Ed002's Note - I don't have any influence on him. I can tell you that Rafaela Pimenta has been in London talking to Liverpool about the details for Slot. Liverpool are negotiating compensation with Feyenoord but they are resisting making it easy. Probably not the time to suggest Hencko as a VvD replacement.}

24 Apr 2024 12:52:40
Will you reveal your true identity one day Ed002? Your info has proved to be spot on once again.

 6

24 Apr 2024 14:36:21
Ed’s I read that slot likes to control of everything at feyernoord, as klopp does for us and Amorim does for sporting allegedly…. is this true? And if so would it be a negative to come to us when it seems he is wanted to be the coach/ manager only and all the transfer stuff is taken away from him. And is that the reason we stepped away from Amorin?
And which would you say is the better manager and fit for Liverpool? Both seem to ne decent managers in their respective leagues but it’s miles away from prem level.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Dennis te Kloese is responsible for the transfer process at Feyenoord with input from Slot. It will be the same at Liverpool. I understand that there was no clear understanding between the club and Amorim's agent regarding the scope of his responsibilities and that Liverpool would need to be flexible – critically over the squad – another with an issue that targets are still Fallows, Hunter and Klopp derived and a whole new structure being put in place.

Arne Slot would always have been my choice.}

24 Apr 2024 16:04:36
Ed002 tapped up Slot
🤣.

 6

24 Apr 2024 16:23:13
I tapped the slot once.

Got arrested.

 5

24 Apr 2024 18:37:40
Is he going to Slot right in, or just a credit card swipe away from getting sacked when results go west?

 0

24 Apr 2024 11:38:58
Sky Sports saying we've opened negotiations with Slot but they also said the same about Amorin a couple of weeks ago so wait and see I guess.

 2

24 Apr 2024 11:44:09
They're reporting that we've started negotiating with Feyenoord.

 2

24 Apr 2024 11:53:10
Arne Slot that much of a good manager he got sacked in 2020 for losing focus by AZ Alkmaar. Another Rodger’s. Yes man.

 4

24 Apr 2024 11:58:59
Ok Liverpool open talks with Feyenoord over Arne Slot. Hope it makes you feel better.

 2

24 Apr 2024 12:10:15
He was sacked because they found out he was In negotiations with Feynoord DanDan.
A club statement said something along the lines of “we want a manager who’s solely focused on AZ”

Do your reaserch before leaving silly comments.

His record in European football is shocking. Feyenoord in last 5 ucl/ yep have been 3 defeats and 2 draws. We’re definitely heading backwards to a mid table mediocrity team with this new regime. We’ve appointed the hole of Bournemouth top staff lol who operate at the lower part of the table looked like this isn’t going to end well.

 3

24 Apr 2024 12:28:08
@ joeyred lol 😂 he’s drawn 3 games and lost 2 in ucl/ ecl do your research pal. Going to be shambles.

 0

24 Apr 2024 12:38:17
At JoeyTheRed. does that mean Feyenoord tapped him up

And here I thought Liverpool are the only culprits of tapping up 🤔.

 2

24 Apr 2024 12:54:40
How dare a bloke not win CL games whilst managing known European Powerhouse Feynoord.

 12

24 Apr 2024 13:08:35
Ah look lads, id imagine there'll be plenty of Dandans on here over the next few weeks. just let them have their fun.

 3

24 Apr 2024 13:13:06
I genuinely know nothing about Arne Slot or his football. The same could be said of Ruben Amorim.

I do feel a bit uneasy about all of this. But hey, what do I know.

It does sound like the new structure wants a head coach over a manager and that recruitment power will be returned to the nerds.

Revenge of the Nerds.

 3

24 Apr 2024 13:26:45
DanDan is a new account all. Troll season is incoming.

 4

24 Apr 2024 13:31:28
Also ignoring the two CL group games Feynoord won early this season and their run to the Europa Quarter Finals last season. Remind me, what stage of the EL did we get knocked out at?

Genuinely quite sad someone needs to be that selective about a club's record to have a dig at their manager.

 3

24 Apr 2024 13:34:04
@judeNkunu just stating facts pal plenty of people like me concerned about how we’re going about things. Grow up.

 0

24 Apr 2024 13:45:12
I'm with you fly.

Plus when we signed Klopp it was the same with him.

Klopp was signed for his brand of football which if true could be happening here.

We won't just sign a manager for his big name, it will be one that suits our style and vision.

 2

24 Apr 2024 13:48:42
I understand where you’re coming from DanDan, his European record concerned me too.
I’m just trying to be optimistic. Because, if not him who?
Almorin would be my preference, but he himself is vastly inexperienced. Younger then slot in a similar standard of league.
Alonso even would have been a massive gamble. He’s only managed 90 odd games for god sakes.
Whoever comes in after Klopp will probably struggle. Just hope they have the mentality and character to steady the ship after the storm.

 1

24 Apr 2024 13:59:25
I'm confused now Dandan. Is it 3 draws and 2 losses or 2 losses and 3 draws? Doesn't seem like you can make up your mind what his record is in Europe.

And if you had really bothered to do your research, you would have known that his record in the UCL and UEL reads as 10 wins, 10 draws, and 11 losses. If you're looking at his European record in totality (including qualifying rounds and the UECL) it would read as 25 wins, 18 draws, and 14 losses. Bearing in mind that he got this record while managing Feyenoord and Az Alkmaar, I would say it's a fairly decent record.

 6

24 Apr 2024 14:23:50
Thanks for understanding Joeythered. I was also hoping it would be Amorim. But don’t think it’s going to happen now. I don’t know who else it could be tbh. Only Alonso but he’s staying there now. If we do get slot hope he proves me wrong and he does well for us. And I’ll get behind him but there nothing wrong with being concerned at all.

 0

24 Apr 2024 15:11:35
Autocorrect it was 3 draws and 2 losses. Dracred. Yes I did put it wrong in one of the message so what. Dutch league is nothing. I just think he’s going to turn out to be another ten Haag. Just my thinking and so what if I’m concerned of who we’re approaching and what I have to say about how I feel about him.

 0

24 Apr 2024 15:30:21
Absolutely not DanDan.
Hope he proves the doubters and skeptics wrong.
I think the last few weeks have proved we really do need new energy. A youthful manager with new ideas to carry us on further then the great Jurgen has!

 0

24 Apr 2024 16:38:22
Calm down DANDAN. we're all DESPERATE for success.
I'll get my coat!

 1

24 Apr 2024 18:35:42
A development coach, that won't rock the boat too much, until Xabi becomes available?

Thankfully there is no scent of David Brent in Slot's team talks, whilst he doesn't have the presence of Klopp. but who does?

 0

24 Apr 2024 19:42:14
Right so let’s analyse this shocking European record shall we.

This season;

Champions League

Feyenoord 2 - 0 Celtic
Athletico Madrid 3 - 2 Feyenoord
Feyenoord 3 - 1 Lazio
Lazio 1 - 0 Feyenoord
Feyenoord 1 - 3 Athletico Madrid
Celtic 2 - 1 Feyenoord

Europa League

Feyenoord 1 - 1 Roma
Roma 1 - 1 Feyenoord (knocked out on pens)

Absolutely shocking that….

Last year - in the Europa League

- Finished top of their group (just) with Lazio, Midtjylland and Sturm Graz
- beat Shakhtar 8-2 in the last 16
Got beat 4-2 on aggregate to Roma in quarters

And the year before

- runner up in the Conference league losing the final 1-0 to Roma having beat Partizan, Sparta Prague and Marseille on route to the final.

I might be just be easier to please but given who he has been managing and what resources he has had I wouldn’t call that shocking. It isn’t world beating, sure. But certainly not shocking.

Can we knock the hyperbole down a little eh….

Loving the positivity of Dan Dan - NOT.

 0

24 Apr 2024 20:38:44
If we only hired managers that had good managerial records or won loads of trophies then we would not have had Shankly, Paisley, Fagan or Dalglish.
Give people a chance.

Is Jota injured again?

 0

24 Apr 2024 09:13:47
Apparently yes.

 0

24 Apr 2024 11:22:02
Is there something wrong with our strength and conditioning or medical department. I know we play a high tempo energetic style but too many injuries is it our style that’s the problem or the medical / physio or just bad luck I’d love to know some thoughts on this

Cheers.

 0

24 Apr 2024 11:28:22
There has been nothing high tempo or energetic about our performances for the last few months but we are still getting injuries.

We just have a number of players who are all injury prone.

 3

24 Apr 2024 14:00:20
I have alluded to it before but I just think that Jota doesn't take care of himself very well and hence, doesn't recover well enough after games.

 0

24 Apr 2024 15:01:51
@Drac, would you care to share any medical evidence you might have to back up your statement?

 1

23 Apr 2024 20:57:06
Hi Ed2

Thanks for your constant hard work and knowledge which is hugely appreciated.
You called the Slot option a few weeks ago and tipped him to be a very good klopp replacement.
Is he well rated out of the current crop of upcoming young managers? My concern is that we haven't seen very many successful managers from the Dutch league so for me a huge risk? Is there anything the club would expect from him as a minimum target next season?
also what can we expect style wise?

 2

{Ed002's Note - He is a very good and very respected coach and I think might be able to keep Liverpool progressing. Klopp worked hard to overcome his issues and I think Slot could inherit a decent side and deal with issues over aging players over the next couple of years.}

 17

23 Apr 2024 23:42:46
So we're signing frimpong, malen, hanko and wieffer

Dutch ball (I know hanko isn't Dutch) ;)

 1

24 Apr 2024 04:28:21
I miss Kuyt.

 3

24 Apr 2024 08:38:09
We should get Kuyt, Zenden and Ryan in the Babel copter.

23 Apr 2024 22:02:25
Hi Eds in your opinion would Slots appointment secure further contracts for Virj and Trent? And are there any foundations in rumours of Diaz heading to Barcelona for circa £100mill plus as thought they were under financial constraints and Salah to Saudi for a similar amount? I’d personally live to see us go all out for Isak as again Arsenal and Barcelona are sniffing him out - any chance? 🙏🙏.

 0

{Ed002's Note - The appointment of a coach will have no bearing on contracts wjich will need to be dealt with by Michael Edwards. I am not aware of any £100M offer for Diaz but there may be an opportunity for a part echange. There will be an offer from Michael Emanalo for Salah. Isak is of no interest to Liverpool.}

 6

23 Apr 2024 23:17:09
What’s his strengths as a coach Ed? Would he be involved in transfers? Does he have a preferred style/ formation? I can’t say I’ve watched any eredivisie.

 0

{Ed002's Note - It would be an attacking formation and he advocates open and attacking play. He may have a back seat in the transfer process which has caused concerns to others.}

 5

24 Apr 2024 00:13:06
Ed, it looks like with this new structure that Liv are looking at someone who is more of a head coach instead of a manager like Klopp. That is why someone like Amorim is now considered unlikely as he wants more control over players that club will look at.

Do you think that this is a good way to go post Klopp era? And is it safe to assume that Slot is now the club preferred option to replace Klopp?

 3

{Ed002's Note - I think you are largely correct. It is an approach that has been used for some years in Italy and is advocated by Damien Comolli, who Liverpool may soon be linking up with again.

The preferred option will likely now be Arne Slot.}

 5

24 Apr 2024 09:14:28
Hoping he gives his countryman Sepp vDB a chance, if he comes of course.

 3

24 Apr 2024 11:02:24
I don't think Barcelona could afford to buy Diaz even if they stuck him on Klarna.

 5

24 Apr 2024 11:52:05
Is it the case that the linking up with Damien Comolli would come in the form of FSG looking to buy out RedBird Capital at Toulouse?

 0

{Ed002's Note - It is not a case of buying Red Bird out, but extending the relationship.}

 3

24 Apr 2024 12:33:30
Thanks Ed002, makes sense.

 1

24 Apr 2024 14:49:07
Hi Ed, when you say 'it is an approach that has been used for some years in Italy and is advocated by Damien Comolli, ' is that a good thing or not and if so, why? Love to hear your thoughts.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Some of the very best coaches in the world have had to get used to it but I think they should have at lease some input to the process.}

 1

24 Apr 2024 15:23:47
I prefer the head coach approach in current times. Coaching, recruiting, evaluating scouting, and everything else is way too much for one person to handle well anymore. You can do it, but with compromises and those compromises will likely put you at a disadvantage against clubs that employ more specialized positions. With that said, I think Liverpool's structure under Klopp had some weaknesses, centered around defining roles and responsibilities in recruitment (or maybe Klopp was just too big of a personality to be contained) . This led to dysfunction, key departures (Edwards being one of them) and internal turmoil.

With that said, would Klopp accept being a head coach? Probably not. So the drama/ dysfunction came with the territory with him and the pay off far exceeded the issues it created. Heading into the future though, I'm happy to see LFC shore things up a bit and address some of these issues. Hopefully it will pay off and keeps us a couple steps ahead of our competitors.

23 Apr 2024 20:39:38
ED002-Full credit goes to you for suggesting Arne Slot. This looking more likeky now do you think? If so, will he bring his assistants with him or will need to bring someone else in to support on the coaching side?

 3

{Ed002's Note - Great coach and nice guy. Mosyt coaches will want assistants or control over assistants.}

 8

24 Apr 2024 08:15:05
Edd002 what's his style of play? I'm hoping we ditch the inverted fullback nonsense.

 0

{Ed002's Note - It would be a fast attacking soccerball style with an inverted goalkeeper.}

 8

24 Apr 2024 10:22:45
Inverted goalkeeper. OMG can't stop laughing.

Looks like Ed02 is on all time high :-)

 0

24 Apr 2024 10:52:22
Nice One Ed, Do you think Alisson or Kelleher is best suited to the inverted goalkeeping role. I personally think Alisson has more presence in the opposition box to be better at the role than Kelleher.

 2

24 Apr 2024 12:23:33
Nice one, inverted goalkeeper.
I was for a moment how technically that can be done.
