Hey Ed002, given it looks like our financial situation at this moment isn't too great and potentially meaning we can't afford the likes of werner right now, should we expect little to no signings this window? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool can raise money through sales but are taking a couple of other financial hits which were unexpected and have payments due this month. There will be the final payment from Barcelona on Pipco, and there will be income from players who can be sold - and the likes of Wilson and Grujic will bring decent money. There is a credit line available from mortgaging the assets but it is not the intention to use it for buying players. And keep in mind that Liverpool have an excellent squad already and a couple of very good youngsters (such as Jones) who look to be ready for the first team squad. I have explained to folks not to expect too much, and that is still true. Obviously the coach and the scouting staff need to come up with a plan - certainly the plan to add a starting CB needs to be followed up. The other position is AM and a Shaqiri replacement. Then there is the versatile forward which needs thinking about.}

Cheers edd, hopefully the club spends wisely and carefully.

{Ed002's Note - Yep.}

A starting centre half seems ridiculous gomez hasn't lost a PL game playing there and has a great partnership with van dike plenty of other issues in the squad.

{Ed002's Note - I would agree but Klopp has been looking for a high-end starting centre back. Gomez is versatile and it is possible that the club could stick with what they have or find perhaps find a suitable like for like replacement for Lovren.}

So if we did look at Carlos for example Ed as a starting centre back then surely he would cost same or more than Werner would? A versatile forward. A Shaq replacement and a AM, surely all will be out if reach without selling.

{Ed002's Note - Diego Carlos has got to do with it. You seem to be getting strange ideas inside your head again.}

Ed002.

I was thinking the same with regards to the squad and the likes of Jokes coming through. For me, keeping this squad in tact ( with a few tweaks ) is so important .

What are the financial hits if you don’t mind me asking?

{Ed002's Note - £25M to be repaid from the TV money, regging the Pipco money which is a lot less than Liverool "banked"}

You mentioned a starting CB that’s all Ed so I presumed Diego Carlos was one who Klopp wants.

{Ed002's Note - Sure, he appears to be first choice. Perhaps Diego Llorente will be an option or maybe the finances will head toward Joe Gomez getting the starting role. All of this has been done to death.}

Great thread here ed002.

We do have a great group of players. I would love the likes of Werner to join but in our current squad there isn’t much room for him.

Would be great to see jones come through and if a shrewd deal for dembele could happen I think he would be more effective than Shaqiri. Who knows maybe dembele would grow into a great player at lfc.

All hypothetical at the moment but as fans we need to understand there’s not major improvements in the squad currently.

Personally still think midfield is biggest issue next few years quite a few In there late 20s / early 30s.

{Ed002's Note - Don't lose track of Liverpool being in a good place already, There will be a tweek or two.}
