In his pre match interview Klopp really didn't downplay the Thiago rumours. Typical of Klopp is to downplay any rumours that aren't true. He said he had nothing to say (spoke of his admiration) but when asked if he could end the speculation of him joining he simply laughed it off. Saying he couldn't end the speculation. Must be some substance of course then.

He also once said Danny Ward would get his chance as No.1 and within a week Allison was signed.

Klopp is terrible at poker. Just Terrible. He overcompensates in his interviews when something is actually brewing. The only time he speaks truthfully publicly is when he's been told there isn't money to spend, and he'll just come out and say that.

Bit different but sound. My point is that he hasn't closed any doors has he?

I may be misreading it, but I believe he was suggesting that regardless of what he says sports journalists are sports journalists, and love to speculate.

He could maybe be letting our current midfield players know that they need to hit the ground running this year instead of ruling out the possibility that their place is under threat. Could be effective in helping those players stay on their toes and avoid complacency from the start of the season. The window is open for another 3 weeks so plenty can still change within this period.

It doesn’t matter what he says as, just like this site, people will constantly ask the same question until it’s defined one way or the other. He won’t stop the speculation unless he says its a done deal. If he says ‘no chance‘ people will still speculate.

It’s all a bit boring really.
