It makes me laugh how often I read or hear people talking about the consolidation of power of "the big six"

Even if the proposal went through the amount of times 6 of those 9 would agree on anything is so few that it probably wouldn't matter anyway.

I love the sport, but sometimes the business side of the game rears its (ugly) head, and ticks a lot of people off. It's a sign of our times, anyway. Taking moments of weakness, fears and chaos to take undue advantages irrelevant of the consequences. It's nothing new in terms of how people in leadership (whatever kind it is) behave and act. Sane heads would never allow this kind of thing to go through.

{Ed025's Note - and liverpool at the forefront of that greed ArAy, whats new..

Self-interest is at the heart of all the Premier League clubs Ed, we saw that during the lockdown.
I preferred the old football league system but the existence of the Premier League owes everything to the establishment of an elite and more money in any case.
It seems to me that this latest plan was just another step on that path?

{Ed002's Note - Try not to start to try and blame others. Liverpool have been well and truly shamed yet again. Trying to profiteer from the pandemic was never going to be expected and certainly never accepted.}

Agreed, it was a disgusting notion from the start.

A particularly embarrassing and shameful moment from our owners your right Ed002.
Money is the route to all evil and our owners worship it sadly.

{Ed002's Note - Not great I am afraid. Manchester United owners and Rick Parry do not come out well either.}

Well said juicer. This is another example of clubs self preservation during this period. However unpopular this latest effort, its more evidence of how far removed the clubs are from reality. But you shouldn't be afraid to point out that liverpool are one of a number of clubs to demonstrate this. despite the rather monotonous assertions of one particularly bitter individual.

I agree Eds, this was embarassing and should have never happened.

I am very close to losing interest in the game as money and its effects are ruining the game I love. It's making it less enjoyable for all concerned. Most of the clubs are the same, greedy so let's not just single out Liverpool ed2, as you said there are other clubs involved and all are as shameful as each other. I know u love to hate Liverpool but it does become a little tedious at times. Sorry but it's only natural to try and defend the club u love even when they are in the wrong.

{Ed002's Note - This was all about Liverpool. The idea was to find a way for the Liverpool owners to extort more money from the game as they desparately try and cover their losses and make the club more attractive to sell. They roped in the Manchester United owners to support this idea and the former Chief Executive of Liverpool. All of this was supported by threats and the exploitation of the pandemic which has put the future of numerous professional clubs at risks. I see the attempts to defend the Liverpool owners and spread the blame as pathetic I am afraid. I am sorry the truth has become tedious.}

ED2 I think it's wrong what Liverpool, ManU and Parry attempted. Am I right in thinking ManCity, Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea backed it?

{Ed002's Note - One of those clubs gave it support.}

Ed would this be an "alternative " to the pan breakaway European league or are the clubs trying to use this idea as a kind of threat for the breakaway if you get my point, sorry if its a stupid question but most of these things have "back up/ alternative "motives.

{Ed002's Note - No it is nothing to do with the pan-European breakaway plans. The motivation is financial and the need to try and get the growth potential on an upward turn. FSG will need to start pondering what to do.}

Our owners should of sold up ages ago, never been behind them for a long time now, no care for the club at all, tried ripping fans off with ticket prices and got two fingers stuck up at them, we win the biggest trophies going and they come out and say, we will strengthen, they found out the cost of strengthening and balked, no club in this day and age shouldn't have their games on tv, the EFL should have their own ppv tv channel and keep the income.

{Ed002's Note - They have been hit harder than most by the pandemic.}

Personally, I hope they sell. This whole thing is embarrassing.

It seems to me that most comment and criticism is coming from those who wanted the PL season stopped, for varying motives.
The irony of which is the entire football pyramid, including the PL, would be in a much more precarious position than it already is.
The PL is driven by money and self-interest and its voting structure is such that the only safe thing that can be agreed upon is the status quo.
Any idea outside of this is problematic to say the least. If it wasn’t for the television companies and Govt. the football would not have resumed at all, so incapable is the PL of coming up with any solution by itself.
I’m not here to defend FSG on this but the reaction about supporting the lower tiers and grassroots football is also ironic. We had a structure that did that, it was called the Football League!

I think it’s the things they would agree on that worries people, such as ensuring money is funnelled to those 6 clubs and blocking clubs from getting rich owners themselves.

I was lambasted on here, back in April, when I said I would never forgive our owners for furloughing staff (then backtracked) . They are at it again, trying to screw as much money.

The proposal intrigued me at first, then disappointed me as I read more into it. It was a move right out of an old mobster movie. The powerful seizing the opportunity to leverage the vulnerable to make a deal with the devil.

The game is about money. If you don’t like that then don’t put your own money into it.
It’s quite honestly ridiculous for anyone to lambast owners of a premier league football club for trying to look after their investment and yes, make money.
We all have this romantic notion that the club is ours because our great grandparents stood on the terraces paying at the turnstiles. Those days are well and truly gone I’m afraid.
But hey it’s given the usual bitters another chance to call Liverpool the devil’s club just because no matter how much money they throw at it they’ll never get near us.
