Hi eds as Gini agreed a pre contract with Barcelona?

{Ed002's Note - My understanding from an ex-PL player who is involved with Barcelona that there was, as of yesterday, at least a verbal agreement in place between the parties - if that is the case then lawyers will need to agree the formal pre-contract and everyone would need to sign it.}

What did Hunter say?! Lol see ya Hunter! I wish Gini good luck, been a good servant and leaves with his head held high. Thanks for the memories Gini. I'll miss singing his song!

It is what it is. Employee decides to get a job elsewhere. The main thing is recruiting appropriately to replace him.

Who is and why?

{Ed002's Note - You are a mindless cretin - Liverpool and the players don't deserve supporters like you.}

Good luck to gini in his next chapter. We move on as we always do.

A shame to see him go but I know ed1 (who is a better judge of a player than me) has felt he plays within himself an awful lot. I’ll miss him wriggling out out having three men around him and somehow still coming out with the ball. Got some terrific attributes and rarely injured. Good luck to him, seems like a genuinely nice guy too. From relegation to champions league and premier league winner, will always have a special place in the history of the club which is no mean feat.

{Ed0666's Note - hey Gini moves on with my blessing he’s been tremendous for up until a few months ago. He’s a genuinely good human being does a bunch for charity and I think Barcelona need him more than we do.

Ed0666 in fairness to Gini, he’s been asked to play a midfield which has been completed decimated by having to play Fabinho and Henderson in defence, so I’m not judging him on that. Klopp got that horribly wrong.

{Ed0666's Note that doesn’t justify him being anonymous for most of the season and not putting in a shift.

No amount of running around a lot can make up for technical deficiencies. He’s just not a defensive midfielder. Not his fault, just a fact of life.

{Ed077's Note - I had to check which page I was on lol. I thought this was a thread on Fred lol}

The most used player over the last few seasons, starting on the subs bench only twice this season and even coming on both those games. Asked to play in positions clearly not suited to his game, playing continuously when a break was clearly needed while all his team mates were repeatedly injured. Yet not many made the excuses for Gini as the did for other players. Resorting to "his heads in Barcelona", "he's hiding during the game" etc etc
Its a shame that a player who has been relied upon by Klopp over the last lot of seasons more than any other player faced such unwarranted criticism but there you go.
I wish him the very best in his next adventure and can only hope that whoever takes his place wins the medals Gini has won. Well done fella.

I wish him all the best won it all with us

Only flaw for me was his passing to pass it backwards or safely to be a world class player but him close controll will be missed.

I totally agree with you IR.
I’ve always been a fan of Wijnaldum and he’s been crucial to Liverpool’s success over the past few years.
Underrated doesn’t even begin to explain it, particularly on this site.
But he’s been excellent value and good luck to the lad, I wish him every success.

Gave us 5 years of loyal dedicated service, will be fulfilling the terms of his contract and you can't ask for more. I got frustrated with him at times, but once you look at the broad picture you'll see the professionalism and class he always conducted himself with. Why is it that so many others, who have done far less, get to stay but he doesn't? The team's decision I guess, and that's the way the cookie crumbles.

I agree with most of what you said, IR. Gini has been one of my favourite players over the past few seasons and an underrated midfielder. However, the Wijnaldum we have seen over the past few months has barely resembled his performances of the past few seasons. He has been slow, unadventurous and even lazy since October. he's shirked challenges and gone missing when the chips were down. Hence, the ‘head is turned’ criticism.
Best of luck to him in the future and he should be remembered as a pivotal player for us but he's soured his reputation a little in my opinion.

I will miss gini, he's been a fantastic player for us and came up with the good when it mattered. But unfortunately our team is getting older, needs a bit of new blood and he probably doesn't get into our first choice midfield with everyone fit, a situation which will only get worse for him as Jones improves. He'll leave with love and blessings and the biggest medals in the world round his neck, all hard earned and well deserved.

Giní gave an awful lot over the last few years. The disrespect from some fans on here is a joke. Every player moves on, just thank him and be happy for his input and wish him the best. I'd swear some fans support rumoured players more than the players that have actually done something for the club.

I'll never forget the feelings I had when he came on against Barcelona and scored 2 in 2 minutes to turn the game. He has done enough to be respected and wished well, anything else is nonsense!

Gini Wijnaldum: “It’s unbelievable, ” says Liverpool’s super-sub in an interview with BT Sport. “After the game in Spain we were confident that we could score four goals at home and win 4-0. I think people outside the club didn’t think we could do it but we have shown anything is possible. I was really angry with the manager and wanted to show him what I could do. ”.
