Hey Ed's / reds

Hearing we are not looking to replace wijnaldum and at 1st though I was thinking big mistake but then I thought Curtis Jones could easily take up gini role and the money could be spent on a different type of player what's people thoughts on this if true
I would love us to break the bank for grealish as I think he could be a game changer for us I just like the way he plays with his head up and isn't scared to take people on (no chance I know just playing champ man in me head )

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - There will be a push from the club to start to utilise players such as Jones rather than simply spending money the club does not have. Finances are a real struggle and their is a consistant €40M price tag on the players the club are interested in. I think they need to prioritise replacements this summer rather than building debt - or the option will be to sell perhaps Salah or Mane to provide a significant boost to the funds - and to realistically price the fringe players who are up for sale.}

Makes total sense Ed
After all that’s what the academy is for to promote from within Jones has proved he’s an able 1st team player with the ability to get better . Elliot looks like he can take shaq place and ox can cover midfield and attack when fit ideally if we want to purchase a player it needs to be a game changer.

Personally cb was the main issue for me. Our midfield maybe needs one player but our front 3 are good for at least another season. If mane left then I think a midfield and attacker will be brought in. If not a midfielder will be bought if we can sell some fringe players.

Truth is that our midfield options beyond Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago are poor, something that was proven time and again when both Henderson and Fabinho didn’t play. None of Keita, Milner, Ox or Shaq were anywhere good enough for varying reasons. I’m not entirely convinced that Curtis Jones is the answer to replacing Wijnaldum as he can be too casual and switches off too easily. That said, he’s way ahead of Keita and Shaqiri.

30 May 2021 00:41:09
Midfielder and attacker an absolute must.

Let's not get into this again with the we have this an that. The same as last summer with the 3 cbs.

We need a midfielder to replace gini. Give Jones time and space to develop.

{Ed0666's Note - nehaus/bissouma for me and any striker/winger.

5.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 06:36:39
Jones frustrates me altogether. I can categorically say he will not replace Gini. CJ is a talented boy but my opinion of him is he thinks he’s a big time Charlie, made it already, and pressing is beneath him. I truly hope I’m proven wrong however the illusion of him ever replicating Gini is a no goer for me.

{Ed001's Note - he tracks back and presses much better than Gini ever did. He was not one of the more talented youngsters in the younger age groups, he has got where he has by working harder than the rest. He is in no way a big time Charlie.}

6.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 08:11:40
Jones being passed off as a Gini replacement isn't it. Keita, Henderson and Ox are injury prone, even Milner is starting to miss games, he's missed more through injury the last 2 seasons than the last 11 combined before that. Thiago and Fabinho are both world class but we can't play them every single game. Jones could do a job taking Keitas or Oxs minutes if they were sold sure but not Wijnaldum who plays almost every game. He needs replacing with a player who's good enough to compete with Fabinho and Thiago. Jones himself has gotten more than enough minutes this season anyway for where he's currently at.

30 May 2021 09:45:22
I have to say I hate comments like Stenova's! I mean where on earth do you get the idea that Jones is a big time Charlie? If you say things like that against a young player, then back it up with some facts instead of running a kid down. Really poor post man.

8.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 10:05:42
I’ve never seen Jones give anything more than 110 % I think it’s because he’s come through the academy and not been signed for 50+ mill why people give him stick I think he’s a really good player as it is so over the next few years who knows . Everyone forgets a few seasons ago when gini was almost a passenger in that midfield and he wasn’t good enough for people now he’s leaving he’s irreplaceable.

9.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 10:18:18
Loads of very reasonable comments other than Stenova's.

Keita can go without any replacing as he really barely played. Gini on the other hand played all the time.

I think Bissouma in is enough for midfield. The schedule shouldn't be as crowded with a normal full length season (hopefully! ) .

Ox is a big question mark for me, if Klopp intends on using either him or Gruijic next season as a 6th choice midfielder then I'm fine with that (remember Milner would be no 7). If we go to sell both Ox and Gruijic then a 2nd midfielder but only then for me. Ox is likely on big money and you just can't have lads 7th or 8th choice on that money, too many players and it would be hard to keep the squad morale positive.

10.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 11:22:18
Can we stop placing Jones on some pedestal please. He’s shown promise and is neat and tidy in his link play. But he’s not forward thinking and hardly thrives in front of goal. We have had enough “side to side” midfielders, we need something different. If we don’t buy a midfielder in the Coutinho, attacking midfielder mould then another fourth place is in the stars for next season.

{Ed0666's Note - why are people on Jones’ back all of a sudden he’s a kid that’s been thrown in at the deep end. He’s a couple of seasons away from permanency and will be a mainstay. The kids the real deal. as

11.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 12:08:54
Jones will be good but Klopp needs to take the shackles off. He’s a final 3rd player, should be taking players on, getting shots off, getting into the box. Gini did it before us and even his first season with us, Lallana did in Klopps first season. Coutinho even Klopp let play as an 8 at times. Jones needs to be used like that, I don’t want him doing the dog work in midfield just recycling possession all game getting it out to Trent and Robbo to put in 30 crosses a game each.

I’d sell Keita and replace him with let’s just say Bissouma because he’s the one usually mentioned then play 2 of Henderson/ Thiago/ Bissouma/ Fabinho then 4 of Jota/ Mane/ Firmino/ Salah/ Elliott and an Origi replacement ahead of them. Not sure what would happen with Milner or Ox though. Both on too much money for what they offer.

12.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 12:19:35
IPC12. Your talking absolute rubbish mate. Jones who is not forward thinking as you put it outscored and had more assists than Fabinho Henderson Keita and winjaldum had combined last season. Not bad for a big time Charlie. Jones will be even better next season.

13.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 12:22:39
IPC we didn't have a "coutinho" style midfielder when we won the league and champions league! Wij wasn't big on assists or goals. I am confident Jones can easily step into his shoes.

It is the injury record of Hendo, Ox and Keita that I can see leaving us short.

14.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 12:39:12
I don’t think Curtis is a big time Charlie, he’s confident, nothing wrong with that at all, but BTC? No. I just think his decision making and usage of ball isn’t there yet to be a replacement for Gini. However, he’s definitely can replace both of Shaqiri and Keita, and for the record, Keita is a big time Charlie.

15.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 13:17:36
People probably drool over someone like Mason Mount lastnite. They should remember that at Curtis's age he hadnt played a single Premier League game yet. A huge step up from the Eredivisie or the Championship. The same with people like Maddison and Grealish. None were further ahead of where Curtis is now at the same age. The kid will be a top player, i think this can be a breakout season for him.

16.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 13:53:24
Jadon Havertx, I’d say that Foden was ahead of Curtis at the same point. But there’s no shame in that as Foden is a very good player.

17.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 13:57:39
Totally happy with Jones being utilized more. What concerns me is the amount of games that Keita, Ox and Milner will start in total. So rather than 7 players we've essentially only got 5 so I would concur we need one more as things stand.

18.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 14:10:54
I'm not worried about Jones at all. Quite the opposite, I'm excited to see him continue to develop and get better and better. I think he has all of the potential to be a fantastic player and a fan favorite.

19.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 16:12:05
Wouldnt disagree with that Victor. foden is top class! my point is half the people saying Jones isn't good enough would want us to buy the players ì mentioned. i've watched the academy for years, and bar Sterling Curtis is the best and that includes Trent. A certainty to be with us for a long long time.

20.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 17:16:09
Fair point too Jadon.

21.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 17:20:32
It not a case of jones not being good enough. I think lack a goal scoring midfielder. Someone who can hit one from outside the box. The amount of width on our game screams for a Gerrard. lampard. scholes. to
Arrive in edge of box.

22.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 18:33:54
Riomazy Jones was prolific for the U23's last year! He has it in him, i don't think people realise how good you have to be to be playing for one of the big teams in England as a teenager. Jones will be capable of goals but again, we play a different way where our midfielders do a specific job. This is different to someone like Fernandes who plays nearly as a traditional 2nd striker.

23.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 18:21:37
Look, Curtis Jones is a talented boy. Ed001, c'mon he tracks back and presses better than Gini. you’ve got to be winding me up! I agree with a lot of the comments above tbh. To get where he is he must of worked extremely hard, no doubts about it but if he’s not afforded space on a pitch he switches off. IMO he’s not putting it all in, hence the BTC comments. They were made purely on attitude I see on the pitch, if others want to call it arrogance or something else that’s fine. Everyone’s is entitled to their opinion. Midfield is not an area i overly concerned with as with Fab, Thiago and hendo and them been rotated adequately I feel we have enough cover with our supporting midfielders in Keita, Jones, Milner etc.

{Ed001's Note - why have I got to be winding you up? You clearly have no idea about the lad and have made a ridiculous judgement based on your own bias. Give it a rest.}

24.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 19:48:10
Curtis Jones is going to be a great player for Liverpool, he's only young and done really well when he's come in, what is wrong with you lot? If he was bought for 50 million you'd soon change your tune, give it a rest, he's a scouser so knows what it's like to be in a Liverpool shirt

25.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 20:58:03
Get off his back. CJ is the 💩 lad's.

26.) 30 May 2021
30 May 2021 21:34:11
Wijnaldum played all 38 league games last season. I’m all for Klopp giving those games to Jones. Problem is who’s then going to take the 24 league games Jones played this season.

27.) 31 May 2021
31 May 2021 00:22:35
I really don’t get the Jones slander. He’s a lad from the academy, which is the most traditional way of getting a player. When he has played he has been good if not very good, and always works hard. Yes he makes mistakes but that is why he needs the game time. How someone can watch him and say he doesn’t work hard or he is a big time Charlie is beyond me. Watch him in most games and you will see how hard he works, whether it is tracking runs or pressing. Again he will switch off with his age, but that is natural. Let the young lad develop without the slander, as that is what ruins half of the youngsters these days.

28.) 31 May 2021
31 May 2021 14:32:57
Personally, at the moment, I see Curtis as a Lallana replacement.
I am hoping his development in the next year or two will result in a player with more end product than Lallana.
I have no ossie with his work rate. He just gets caught out tracking runners or a cheap overturn of the ball. But these are bits of his game he will iron out.
My worry is Ox, sharqiri, Keita, Grujic, Wilson and Origi. All either are injury prone or will/ have deliver little. These guys need to be given a chance of firet team football and we need to price them at the lower end of our expectations.
If we can make £30-£40m from these sales and realease a lot of pressure on the wage bill, then another starting midfielder to replace Gini is viable - and hopefully the replacement would be a box to box player able to provide 7-10 goals a season
A midfield of Thiago, Fab, Hendo, Jones, Milner, plus a new signing who, arguably, could be a starter rather than squad player looks strong to me.
We then have Mane, Salah, Bobby, Jota and Elliott for the attacking roles and we know the club want to strengthen in this area too, so one more signing there and we would be good to go.

The only other point is, defensively. Going into the season with Matip AND Gomez means, for me, we can't sell Phillips and need 5 CB options. Only, if we sell one of Matip or Gomez should we consider going into the season with 4 CBs (Williams not being one of them - he needs a loan) .

Sorry for the ramble.

No idea why people are having a go at Jones. Reading the thread I only noticed one person in the whole thread thinks we need 0 midfielders.

I think we should get 1, ideally Bissouma or someone similar. Keita could move on as well, would be best for both parties now.

1 or 2 midfielders seems to be the general consensus so all this Jones replaces Gini and we get nobody else seems a bit of a foolish debate - 99% of us want at least 1 more high level midfielder.

If Jones continues his progression no doubt he will force himself in to the team.
