£50m on a 17 year old? Pigs are more likely to sprout wings and fly. I can see City spending the money as they can afford the risk, we can’t afford the risk.

@VVVV can you give it a rest mate? It’s a rumour on the rumours page and to be honest you have no real idea. - like the rest of us - as to what the owners are willing (or not willing to sanction) in terms of finances for transfers.

In this instance, for example, the assumed. ( though not necessarily accurate) fee of £50m for a 17yr old could quite easily turn into £300 or 400m sell on for the same lad at 22 or 23 might be considered a worthwhile investment by the owners, although again this is just supposition on my part. However, it might be true that whilst the club won’t spend tens of millions on fully developed back-up players the story might be completely different for a youngster who has the potential.

Anyway, it’s a rumours page and it would be a shame if people’s fun was spoiled by one or two just saying “we won’t sign them’ over and over again every time a name is put up.

WDW - I've described VVVV before as the necessary accountability partner for all of us. It just won't go away lol it is good to have that reality monster keeping us all in check haha.

Good glad he gone, I have it on good authority that we have our bids accepted for haaland and embappe and now all we have to do is set up a go gofund me page. The page is called saveourseason#VVVV.

To add ALL transfers are a risk irrelevant of age of the player.

I agree with VVV, Liverpool are struggling financially, I doubt the club would pay a hefty fee on nothing more than potential, which is what a 17 year old is.
If the owners were willing to sanction significant sums for transfers, Klopp would have already strengthened our midfield.
There have been several windows to do so and quite a few players who have shown they are simply not good enough for us, but we persevere with them because we cannot afford to improve them.
It must be so frustrating for klopp, especially when he had finally closed the gap on Man City. Always Strengthen when you are on top.

These kind of unrealistic types of signings never happen, we’re never going to risk spending £50m on a kid who may not make it (probability wise there’s as much chance he’ll turn out to be a Krcic or a Pacheco as there is a Messi or a Xavi), so no, we’re not going to spend £50m on a 17 year old prospect. Sorry that’s just the cold hard truth. I’d imagine it’s nonsense put out by his agent to try and get a bigger contract out of Barca, or to try and get other more likely parties involved. The reality of our situation is pretty stark, we simply can’t financially compete with City, Chelsea or United when it comes to signing players, as it stands we can’t even compete with Arsenal, Spurs or even Villa (given their interest in Bissouma) so any talk of players with big transfer fees is pointless, and it’s not going to get any easier as we come up the point of having to replace Firmino, Mane and Salah for various reasons (age, contracts coming up etfc) as well as refreshing our increasingly decrepit midfield, both of which we don’t have the funds to be able to do and are patently unable to raise the necessary funds to do from sales as barring TAA, there’s no one that we have that could really give us those funds. Add to that the loss of Michael Edwards from the recruitment team (which I’d imagine he’ll be on gardening leave imminently), and can you say in all honesty that everything in the garden is rosy? As it looks far from it, even at just a cursory glance.

Christ, you really do just moan for the sake of moaning. People can't even post a silly rumour during silly season without you going on and on about how the club is imploding and we're going to get relegated and we might as well sell Anfield while we're at it so we can afford Adama Traore's signing on fee.

Kinell I feel like walking into the sea after reading VVVV’s posts. You make C.V. sound like fun! Come on mate let’s get some good old fashioned rumours going. Or support another team. We area where we are it’s no one’s fault. We aren’t being mismanaged. We’re suffering the effects of a global C.V. mate. That’s the reality. Cut our cloth accordingly. We can win the league or CL every year.

My wife's sisters boyfriends uncles daughters cousins son is in creche with Gavi's little sister. She told him on Friday just before nap time that Klopp thinks her big brother is very talented.

@VVVV - you are missing the point, actually missing several points not least that being a fan means you support the club and hopefully get some fun out of it.

However, in this instance the binary approach all good vs all bad is false. You are correct in saying we don’t have the consistent shed loads of money that City or Chelsea or PSG or Real Madrid have but that doesn’t mean to say that we don’t cherry pick from the ‘top end’ when needed - Ali, VVD as prime examples or that we don’t buy medium level players with a view to our manager turning their unrealised potential into world class form on the pitch - Mo, Sadio, Bobby, Fabs for example, or that we don’t buy bargain basement players again with our manager working with the potential they have to turn them into top notch players - Robbo being the prime example.

I won’t bother with the kids coming through the Academy system as that’s a different issue in that a lot of them weren’t transferred in and have been developed from within.

Obviously the club have signed players who haven’t worked out - Keita primarily due to attitude (if gossip is correct) and Ox and Thiago primarily due to injuries as recent examples but the point is whilst the club doesn’t always shop at the top end of the market, in the vast majority of cases it shops in the right part of the market when a player with potential, temperament or whatever is identified for what the manager wants in terms of the way his team is set up.

In a lot of cases in recent years nobody has really been any the wiser about who we were targeting so rejecting a player out of hand because you either don’t like some of the traits of the player or because he doesn’t fit the monetary framework that you use is just pointless as the club doesn’t work to the same song sheet. If I may offer a pice of advice perhaps you should try and empathise with Klopp when a players name is mentioned and perhaps post how you would see their talents being used to best effect? Just a thought.

West derby, I agree wholeheartedly with your reply. This is a rumours page that far to many people think they run and what they say is absolute gospel, when in fact they have about as much clue as the rest of us about what transfers will and won’t be sanctioned. It’s the same people the jump on posts with try the search function or RTPS.
