Good morning ed2. I see barcalona heavily linked with haaland and salah. Surely Barcelona wouldn't be in financial position to pay the wages either of them 2 would demand?

{Ed002's Note - Barcelona already have an injection of cash coming and will be selling players to buy and bringing in perhaps four Free Agents. In terms of Haaland, Barcelona have a great relationship with his agent and they are the preferred choice for the player but there are other sides interested as well. The issue for them is the funding of the wages and the fees. As for Salah he would cost less and his agent continues to hawk him around. I would not discount Barcelona as an option if, as I think is likely, lose out on Haaland. They will look to including players where they can.}

The Juventus stories on Salah are becoming louder, what do you expect LFC would accept to let Salah go when the next transfer window opens?

Personally, being biased of course, I would feel it would be better for him to stay with this established high performing team with the best 2 attacking full backs in the game at this moment but I can understand reasons for leaving such as new challenge, warmer climates, more money and Klopp has not committed to the length of the new contract that Salah wants.

Whatever happens Salah will be a club legend and I hope he goes out on a super high of being English and European Champions again.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are looking to have him sign a new contract rather than sell him.}

Thanks for that. Lot of big players look like moving this summer.

{Ed002's Note - Indeed.}

Ed2 what’s your opinion on what will happen with Salah? Do you see him signing a new contract or leaving for pastures new? Appears he’s angling for a move still or hoping LFC increase their offer? Do you see him getting any kind of offer he wants from a European club as things stand?

{Ed002's Note - It is diffcult for the club and it is hard to tell what will happen. I suspect the contract situation is made complicated because of his prior expectation to be the post-Ronaldo poster boy at Real Madrid - and he might of been if the financial expectations were more reasonable. Approaching 30 he might now be thinking that opportunity has gone for good and his "agent" might will be pressing for a huge deal in terms of money and length of contract that would not suit Liverpool - hence there being no agreement so far. I would not discount Barcelona as an option as they will likely lose out on Haaland, but it may require at least one player in exchange. He knows that Real Madrid have a much preferred target in Mbappe, but unless that can be resolved for this summer, they could listen to his agent and perhaps make an offer. Juventus seem possible with his contract running down and they have beneficial tax advantages in their favour. PSG have other targets in mind to replace Mbappe. Inter need to replace Sanchez and Perisic and are better placed than most in respect of wages. No clubs will want to spend too much on a transfer fee.}

No disrespect to barca, but who would we want in exchange from there squad.
There's not many we would want, dembele or the young lad gavi. The rest wouldn't be right.

{Ed002's Note - Dembele will be out of contract unless he signs a new one. Gavi will not be moving to Liverpool. They have plenty to offer if Liverpool make him available.}

I can’t think of one Barcelona player I’d remotely want in p/ x, they’re a pale imitation of the team they used to be and they’re a bastion of mediocrity and given that they’re only going to offer their cast offs that have failed miserably it has to be a big fat no to them. And even if we sell, the transfer fee for Salah is likely to be depressingly low given age and remaining contract length, that’ll only bring tyre kickers to the yard. Still think we should pull out the stops to keep Salah, as none of the other options are at all palatable and there’s no one out there who scores at a similar rate (or looks like they could step up), that we can afford. .

@VVVV, I hear Traore is doing well at Barca, could be an option 😉 Sorry couldn’t help myself mate.

{Ed0666's Note - I think your correct there is absolutely no way Barca offer us any of there golden eggs like Gavi, Fatso et al. FSG are in a pickle in this particular situation there damned if they do damned if they don’t. Whatever decision they make it’s gonna be probably one of the toughest they’ll ever make for any one of their sports franchises.

VVVV Pedri and ansu fati are good players.

{Ed001's Note - Fati's knees are shot. His little brother was a better player when they used to kick it about in the village my parents lived in when they were in Spain.}

Didn't knew that story Ed01.

{Ed001's Note - luckily Ansu is young enoough to come back from it, but it is a long road ahead of him.}

Like Ed said, Fati’s knees are shot, he’d struggle in a more physically demanding league, Pedri and Gavi aren’t going anywhere as Barcelona see them as the future so they’re going nowhere.

Besides, these aren’t the players Barcelona would try to offload, it’s more likely Sergi Roberto, Dest, Braithwaite, Lenglet, Umtiti, De Jong, Coutinho, Depay who are the ones on their list of potential swaps, and there’s not one player out of that ragbag army that are remotely good enough. Imagine accepting any deal which included Martin Braithwaite or Luuk DeJong? That would be disastrous.

I stand by my remark that there’s not one Barcelona player worth taking in p/ x.

If Salah goes to Barca, it will probably be for a relatively small fee compared to Salah’s ability and it’s most likely to happen at the end of the window, as Salah knows he’s in control of the situation now and Barcelona know it’s easier for them to negotiate a fee the longer it goes on for. We’ve been here before with McManaman, Owen, Can and Wijnaldum.

That Coutinho fella's done half decent on loan at Villa Victor.

Dest and Depay are good players VVVV, albeit not world class. Everyone else on that list can yet in the bin but i wouldn't be kicking off if we got Dest and Depay in a swap deal. Dest would be a good Williams replacement to compete with Trent, and Depay can play as a false 9, number 10 and on either wing. Probably a better player than Minamino/ Origi, and at least as good as Firmino. He's had a good career since he left Man United. I would rather straight cash though because there are better options than Dest/ Depay. It's just a bit harsh to lump them in with Braithwaite and De Jong!

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath for either.}

Who exactly WILL they let us have in return for the worlds best player then? tell them its money upfront or be gone with yis. Ye wudnt see us offering Origi or Taki if it was the other way around would ye? In fact there's not a hope in hell Lfc would want any of Barca's players unless its their crown jewels.

Fine by me Ed002. Just felt it was harsh to put them in with some of the others but neither would be players i'd advocate pursuing.
