All sorts of reports today saying van dijk has agreed to join Bayern on a free at end of season, if this happens it's a disgrace he's the one who needs to be kept more than anyone.

Maybe just wait to see what happens and then we can lay into the owners.

If that's true, thanks for your service I guess but you're downgrading to play for a worse team that has trivialised its own league to make it completely uncompetitive. Winning the Bundesliga at Bayern means even less than winning Ligue 1 at PSG. Honestly I would respect a move to the Saudi league more than a move to Bayern because at least i could understand it.

L29 you can’t force Van Dijk to stay, doesn’t matter who the owner is.

15 Mar 2025 14:32:50
Downgrading? How exactly @Babitty? Bayern is one of most followed and successful club in the world. Plus he would earn the money he won’t get at LFC. The fact is your inner jealousy is popping out ??.

all sorts of reports? i haven't seen ONE.

Sounds like nonsense to me. The player himself has said that nothing has been decided either way and that anything that doesn't come out his own mouth is speculation. Can we stop stirring the pot and wait till something concrete emerges? Slot himself has put himself on the line saying he wants Virgil to stay. To me that's a sign that we will try and keep him.

And the bundesliga surely isn't a less competitive league than ligue 1, Babbity, Leverkusen won it at a canter last year for example, and there are a handful of good and tactically innovative teams that emerge every year that can cause Bayern problems (Stuttgart last year, Mainz and eintracht this year, Stuttgart finished above Bayern last year) . Dortmund have been totally crap this year but even they made it to the last 16 of the CL, which is not something any other french team has managed.

All that being said, I'm pretty sure Dortmund, as bad as they have been, would beat the likes of Marseille, nice, Lyon quite easily. Lille are the only other half decent team in France, because they are reasonably well organised. By comparison psg are so much better than any other team in the french league they could probably expect to beat second place Marseille with half their starting xi rested.

I don’t think Vvd bases any of his decisions on what any fan respects.

Same as anyone else. Why would they care for a complete strangers opinion of their career decisions.

Great rumour, but let's wait until it happens before we slag off the player that we have most to thank for our current and recent past trophies.

Babbity. Just to play devil's advocate, Kasper Schmeichel did a great interview recently about playing for celtic. He said playing a club who expected a win every week and anything less wasn't enough re fueled his love for football.

For that same reason playing for Bayern is light years ahead of Saudi. If we haven't given Virg a contract and he signs for the best team in Germany, who will at least compete for champions league every year then fair play to him. He's been an incredible player for us and it would be ridiculous to let him leave. but let's not hold that against him wherever he goes.

11.) 15 Mar 2025
15 Mar 2025 20:15:33
It doesn’t matter if they walk the league what does matter is that they have shown him that they want him. Instead of us banking on him wanting to stay for peanuts and playing hard to get.

12.) 15 Mar 2025
15 Mar 2025 20:31:40
Bayern are a good team and the Bundesliga is certainly better than the French league. Of course it’s not as competitive as the EPL. If true maybe that’s why Virgil chose them. They still play CL football and do relatively well, i mean they are still in the thing this season and we aren’t.
Anyway, let’s hope it’s all bull and he’s with us for another 2 years. Bayern certainly wouldn’t be put off by his wages.

13.) 15 Mar 2025
15 Mar 2025 20:32:06
what's the source of this rumour?

14.) 15 Mar 2025
15 Mar 2025 20:57:21
@L29, do you understand how contracts work?

The club and player agreed the contract that is currently in place. The club and player agreed that the end date for this contract would be June 30th 2025.

The club, and us fans, would obviously love him to stay but if he wants to see what offers he can get and thinks there is a better offer somewhere else then he is perfectly free to leave on July 1st.

Obviously the club could offer him a massive new contract but the club are wise enough to realise that the downside of such a contract would far outweigh the benefits for one particular player, in the context of being able to afford the best squad we can assemble for next season and ensuring that the squad is happy.

VVD is playing very well this season and is, generally speaking, back to the level he was prior to his encounter with the idiot Pickford, but he is 34 in July and perhaps he’s better seeking a final, fresh challenge. Whilst I’d love him to stay I also think that ‘all things must pass’ and if the lad wants to leave then a great big thanks for the enormous contribution made from this particular fan and very best wishes for whatever you chose to do next.

I mean bayern are a good team, and he might make some big bag. Can't blame him.
Be easier than staying in the prem.

16.) 15 Mar 2025
15 Mar 2025 21:56:06
Babbitty, if he goes to Bayern it’s solely down to the incompetence of those running the club that it’s happened, save your contempt for them. They’d be the ones who deserve it. And if it’s true, you can be sure that whatever walks through the door to replace him will not be anywhere near as good.

{Ed025's Note - i cant really argue with that VV..

17.) 16 Mar 2025
15 Mar 2025 23:36:17
Let’s see what happens. But all this contract debacle is all on the owners and hierarchy at the club. If VVD decides to join Bayern he’s almost guaranteed the league every year and can probably extend his career by a few years.

18.) 16 Mar 2025
16 Mar 2025 00:21:22
thats not going to happen, Big Virg will be with us next season, and the season after that, don't listen to that BS .

19.) 16 Mar 2025
16 Mar 2025 07:50:28
Didn't Leverkusen win the Bundesliga last season? Haven't city won six out of the last seven league PL titles? Is that uncompetitive?

20.) 16 Mar 2025
16 Mar 2025 09:53:51
if that's true then Van Dijk is a liar.

21.) 16 Mar 2025
16 Mar 2025 10:07:46
All this "if this is true it's a disgrace" is just bollox. Don't jump onto the hate bandwagon based on rumours. We don't know jack rubbish, and certainly don't need to criticize players or staff based on rumours. Be better.

Not being reported by ANY reliable sources. So please stop reading the cesspool sites for rumors please and enjoy the Cup final and league title season.

For the people I’ve upset many smaller sites have reported it all at the same time if you type van dijj Bayern into google you will see, when it’s only one of these yes I ignore it but there’s loads so it makes me think there’s a leak somewhere but what do I know?

And my point was IF we let him go for free.

Does it not all come down to how strong of a believe they have in not giving contracts to players over 30 - at some point these players will have to move on and be replaced, LFC have a wage structure they will want to stick to so breaking the wages structure while also breaking the belief of renewing contracts of over 30s - we are being linked (all taken with a pinch of salt) with Salah and VVD replacements but not heard any RB replacements - there could be a world where Trent extends and VVD, Salah aren’t and we look for younger replacements - if we do win the league this year is that not a good time for a rebuild?

My feeling throughout is that we should extend VVD but we need to invest in two young up coming CBs in the eye of replacing VVD in the future and another to compete/ replace Gomez or Quansah. VVD seems a leader of men so don’t want to lose around the club.

Salah is difficult if he accepts a one year deal which I doubt he would do that to bring in his future replacement to spend a year with him if your looking at a younger player - if your looking at someone like rodyrgo to replace you don’t keep Salah - sounds crazy but games against PSG really matter unfortunately I don’t think Salah had the impact he would of wanted - is this years league weaker so is that why Salah looks like he is flying? PSG game did get me thinking differently about Mo.

Trent is Trent - would love him to stay for the moments of brilliance but is he worth our biggest wages? At what point do the moments of brilliance get over shadowed by the negatives? Questioned attitude this year and that’s shocking for a local lad!

Do the club want to put their trust in 33 year olds on massive wages or do they use the summer for the rebuild? What will be will be we have no control on it ultimately but sitting on the fence look how successful we have been currently - we spent 75m on Nunez and offered over 100m to Brighton so they are willing to spend.

You have to ask we win the league this year we are a very good sell for younger players - if you give massive contracts to the over 30s and they get injured like any players do and we struggle for top 4 who are going to come in without champions league football and a massive rebuild needed?

25.) 16 Mar 2025
16 Mar 2025 18:49:59
Good luck to him. If today's result shows anything it's that without Trent and Salah we have very little to offer so it doesn't matter how good your defence is, which by the way ours isn't great. Slot needs to create a team in his image and that might mean the old guard leave. So be it.

26.) 17 Mar 2025
17 Mar 2025 08:49:24
VVD is the one that Slot wants to stay he has said that more than once. So if the club continues to pee about and we can’t get him to stay it’s a massive kick in the nads to Slot.
I fully agree whoever comes in will not be at the same level and it will really affect the results.

FFS for all we know the club might of offered all three 400 grand a week each for x amount of years and the players have said no, nobody apart from the club and players know the truth.
