I think once we get a gauge of the bids coming in for Diaz/ Nunez, we will then look at dealing with Isak. I think we are happy with Diaz to stay and won't negotiate for anything less than 75+million.

If both him and Nunez go, I can see the strategy being a lump sum for Newcastle 50/ 60mil for Isak and the rest in instalments. If the overall figure ends up being Wirtz money, Newcastle will at least talk. I'd say he is our genuine top target.

I don't think Etikite is even being considered for 80 mil, too much of a gamble in an area we can pretty easily cover for the time being. I can see Chelsea paying over 80 for him in some weird instalments.

Non of the Saudis seem to be looking at Osimhen currently, I think there will be an attempt to try and offer an acceptable contract from us. He is the one who excites me most, even more so than Isak, he easily gets 30+ goals for us. I'd put him as world class, I can see him having a similar impact as Salah for us.

If Wirtz comes in, I can see us just as easily waiting perhaps even until next summer to look at the striker position. There will always be the next breakout striker come through by then. Gyakores I can only see if we really feel like we need a striker in place for the start of the season and all the above have been exhausted already.

Pongo, Isak is not happening mate.
I think the most likely striker signing is Osmihen in this window.

Osimhen is world class at what he does, he has elite pace and aerial ability, but to me he doesn't appear to be what we necessarily want in our attack. That's just me guessing though that we want a hard pressing, hard running, selfless, pacey and skilful player who can drop deep to help with the build up, link up or switch with the other attacking players. A complete attacking player, that is, not simply a finisher, given that I don't expect the bulk of our goals to come from our 9 but spread through our attacking players.

Retegui I think is an interesting player because he is fantastic with his back to goal, he likes getting other players involved with his link up play, he is outstanding in the air, makes great runs, is capable of all kinds of finishes in the box, presses well and has not always played as an out and out 9 under gasperini, he has played well as a second striker at times as well. Of course he isn't necessarily a specialist carrier or a dribbler but he is very decent with the ball at his feet and he is very strong physically. He's not elite in any aspect of center forward play but good at every aspect, if he is available at a decent price, he has been on an upward trajectory since Genoa so might be an interesting choice.

Somehow I feel the rest of the signings won't be as high profile as this (after Wirtz is confirmed) .

Chiesa is good friends with Vlahovic, maybe he can convince him to decrease his wages ?.

@Haizan, according to Akira it gets more exciting after Wirtz. If it is the case there are going to be a large number of our fans who run the risk of blinding themselves.

If our preference is a link up player between the midfield and attack that sounds to me as a false nine. If you think that's what we need Szobozlai can easily play that position. But, if we are in the market for a striker that could be causing damage to our opponents defence, Then Oshimen is the answer but an expensive one. He scores anywhere he goes. He is fast, He scores with head and equally good with his feet.

Most likely not Haizan, we’re about to break the British transfer record. Can’t expect every signing to be the same high profile.

Rumours of Kelleher plus £27 million for Mbueno.
Could be a good deal . I’ve always liked Mbueno.

Selling Díaz—who relies heavily on pace and is likely to decline over the next couple of years—high to the Saudis makes sense, at least to me. But if that happens, along with the potential exits of Jota, Núñez, and possibly Fede, we could be looking at the loss of most of our front line.

Wirtz could replace one of them. I'd also expect Gordon to be brought in as a squad player, for a number of reasons. But even then, we’d still be in need of a major signing up front.

It feels like many roads are leading to Osimhen, rather than Ekitike—who seems more like a smokescreen. He’s far too risky (as is Šeško) for the kind of money being quoted. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of Šeško or Ekitike ends up becoming a world-beater.

Truth is, it’s not a great market for forwards right now. Every option feels like a bit of a punt.

Ed1, just a hypothetical question. If somehow Alvarez has a change of heart and somehow want to come back to England and Athletico are willing to sell, financially do we have the capability to make 2 100M+ signing in one transfer window?

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

Vango - so you think gordon is going to come sit on the bench?

@West I would be over the moon if Akira is right. But I still doubt it will. I think past windows, we never done such thing, right? Buying multiple expensive players in one window, right?

Ed1 stated yesterday the club only want players who want Liverpool and Issac doesn’t the club have moved on, can everyone else.

{Ed001's Note - it is not that he doesn't want Liverpool, but that he is happy to stay at Newcastle for now.}

Isak to play one season with Newcastle in the CL, and then realise that there is no further forward motion with that club.

Liver_La, found the article, it’s an opinion piece - “wouldn’t it make sense if” kinda think, rather than an actual rumour.

Really like Mbeumo but Mo isn’t slowing down as Bryan will be at AFCON too.

Given FSG's history with these kind of situations, i can see them either deciding to deal with what we have or buy a stop gap for a year and then go back in for Isak next summer - They don't tend to like spending money on their 3rd, 4th, 5th option etc

Would everybody be content with that?

Personally i'd be happy if we went for Mateta for example (prem proven, cheap enough, cheap wages, 27 is not ancient) and then let Isak and Newcastle stew on the situation for a year - Maybe another option will present itself as well, none of the names being thrown around interest me for the money being talked about if im honest.

Other signings as exciting as Wirtz? Only Bastoni and Isak tick that box, and I can’t see either happening. I think Gordon is a smashing player - horrible to play against. And I do wonder if we actually see him as someone ready to play as a 9 in our system? Would explain why we were in for him last year when we were - and still are - stacked with left wingers.
We are in need of pace on the break, and Frimpong will help hugely on that front. So, Gordon would seem to make sense.

Mateo Retegui in this summer and push for Isak next summer as he will be down to 2 years on his deal? I can get onboard with that idea.

While not flashy, Retegui could be a really smart signing to eventually replace Darwin today and Jota tomorrow if we get the signal that Isak genuinely wants to join us next summer.

Obviously, if Alvarez is in any way available this summer, make that happen.
