Ed1, hearing Marc Guehi name being mentioned by the like of Joyce as option at CB. You hearing anything about this? I personally not convince by him. Is it because he is HG and might be cheap as he is in last year of contract?
{Ed001's Note - I don't know, I would hope we look at better than him.}

Only if gomez and quansah leave.

Squad/ bench player fine, starter? not good enough.

He's a good player and potentially available at a good price having a year left on his deal. Premier league experience and a captain at 24! England International for around the same price as Quansah is a cracking deal for a 3rd choice cbk!

Feels a harsh assessment Ed, no? He’s no Virgil but as a third choice CB I think he’s a great option, certainly much better than Quansah.
{Ed001's Note - same level. Wouldn't want either personally.}

Really don’t get the criticism of Guehi - Really good player and captain. Would be a good signing if it happens.

He wouldn't want to come as a bench player. Its the World Cup year, he would want to be a starter. Ed1, if the likes of Quansah, Gomez and Elliot all leaves, would our HG quota be a big problem?
{Ed001's Note - no. There is no such thing as a home grown quota.}

I agree with you Victor, and I have read in a few (albeit clickbait) reports that his price is lower now as he only has 1 year of contract left.
I wonder if he would back himself to break into the team past VVD or Konate? He is still relatively young (24) and is HG so could be a replacement for Gomez. Also, isn't as injury prone as Gomez and may not cost that much more given the contract situation.
Could be some mileage in this one.

Cardiff, the criticism is that he’s not very good in the air and he doesn’t win many of his physical duels. So as a starter he’s not good enough but as a squad player he can fill in at centre back, left back or defensive midfield.

A well priced utility player.

I quite think Guehi could step up a level In a team like ours, can play either side and prem proven. Seems like a good guy too.
Out of interest, who would you look to ed001?
{Ed001's Note - I would not be looking for 3rd/4th choice player. I would sign someone to replace Konate.}
11.) 19 Jun 2025
19 Jun 2025 22:06:54
Who would you choose to be 3rd/ 4th choice ed1?
I do like the sound of hato as he can cover lb if we happen to loose robbo.
For the right side, I can't think of any young players who have stood out that are attainable. If joe could stay fit he would be perfect. I feel the time has maybe come to part ways.
{Ed001's Note - no one. If you spend money on back ups, you go nowhere but backwards. You buy players to at least push the first team players. We should be looking to buy a player to play alongside Virgil.}
12.) 19 Jun 2025
19 Jun 2025 22:33:35
I wouldn't mind him as 3rd choice but not for me if coming to replace Konate (if Konate doesn't sign an extension) . but I doubt Guehi would want 3rd choice.

A good replacement for Gomez I would say. No he’s not set the world alight so far in his career but he’s very comfortably first choice and captain at Palace.
If he comes to Liverpool and wants to play he’ll have to improve it’s very simple. It’s then up to him to put the work in to become a starter.
Competition for places is only ever a good thing and is the best way to improve players.

Haven't watched much of Palace but Guehi impressed me at the euros last year, thought he was England's best player. I'm irish and I would rarely compliment any English players performance!
Hes a certain upgrade on Quansah imo and I would be very pleased with the signing around the 40mil mark.

Replace Konate as he is off, or just challenge for his spot Ed?
{Ed001's Note - challenge for his spot as he is a weak link in the team.}
16.) 20 Jun 2025
20 Jun 2025 04:10:58
Ed001 am afraid but Liverpool need to look at players to replace virgil too and konate is also not doing any favors as he knows delaying it means he will get the contract he wants.
{Ed001's Note - Guehi is not a replacement for Virgil, he would be a massive, massive downgrade.}
17.) 20 Jun 2025
20 Jun 2025 08:13:29
It wasn't that long ago that Quansah replaced Konate. We might be looking to do the same again. If not replace Konate then at least challenge him.
Konate is not irreplaceable but van Dijk is or as close to it as you can get.

20 Jun 2025 09:12:26
Gotta say Guehi and VVD is solid an more reliable (game time wise) than Konate, I would give Konate until end of this month then inform him he is for sale and sell to the highest bidder.
19.) 20 Jun 2025
20 Jun 2025 08:02:33
Ed1, what happen to that Rennes kid? I thought that if Quansah is sold, he is going to be the replacement. But now many are saying that Guehi is being looked at as Quansah replacement.
{Ed001's Note - I still expect him to arrive. I think the media are just morons and will change their tune every few seconds in order to put out clickbait.}
20.) 20 Jun 2025

Guehi is a leader and will help others in the team.
In terms of defending he’s won 50-55% of his aerial duels in PL the last 3 seasons. Much less than Konate. But he long passing stats are good.
Huijsen was the only CB I wanted. After he was off the table In really not strong on any of the other potential targets. Will be trusting Hughes on this one.
Oh, I would like Hato too.

Ed01, outstanding point. We should not be buying players for 3rd 4th choice, doesn't quite make sense does it. What is the academy for otherwise.
For that purpose, i. e. 3rd/ 4th choice, I think Quansah is adequate and is a good fit, and may yet become better.
But if we can get a good sum, I think it is ok. But we should then really buy someone who should be having the same kind of relatioship like between Gakpo and Diaz, where usually rotation is not going to be significantly drop the standard. I am of course referring to CB who will having such a relationship maybe first with Konate and then slowly with VVD.
If Hato is considered, then I think we are buying hope and versitility.
