Good morning Ed001

Wanted your thoughts please as to how you think Klopp will prioritise the cups and the mass of games we have this season. We have the League, CL, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup as well as the 2 domestic trophy's it's obvious we can't compete for the lot with the extra minutes in the field and the travelling times etc.

I want us to push for the lot but realise that's not realistic.

{Ed001's Note - why can't we compete for the lot?}

Klopp has never competed for all the cups since he’s been here so why start now?

{Ed001's Note - because the squad is stronger now.}

My sentiments exactly, Ed01. OP, Klopp clearly thinks it's realistic. He in fact, said so himself. Klopp gave an interview to the RedmenTV channel on youtube (check it out, OP) and he said we are going try to win every game and every trophy possible this season, period. No prioritizing, no forgoing of one competition for another, none of that. And we can already see it cos he went all in for the CS vs City even tho to me, it is a nothing burger, trophy-wise. Klopp has a squad that he thinks we can compete on all levels so why not go for it all?

I think we will go for th elot, the lads have more determination this season. They have won something big and will want more of that, watch them go, in all competitions. I'm not going to sit here and say we'll win the league but we'll get silverware for sure.

Ok Ed fair enough, when we say the squad is stronger now I do agree to an extent but probably means 7-10 changes in the cup games like v Wolves last season, other teams who are not fighting for so much go stronger in it as they have little to loose.

Would be good though to add to the cabinet as much as we can Ed.

{Ed001's Note - and most other teams are much weaker than us to start with.}

Klopp has stated his faith in the squad and you’d therefore expect that the squad is used for domestic cup games. If Lovren is sold, all the more so.
Therefore a likely First XI for lower round cups -
Adrian
Hoever van den Berg Matip Laroucci
Lallana Milner Ox
Shaqiri Brewster Origi
Subs - mixture of seniors and younger

Depending on injuries of course.

How is the squad stronger? We’ve added a couple of kids, we pretty much have the same squad as last year when we fielded an embarrassingly weak squad against wolves. Add to that Lovren may leave still, I don’t see where we have a stronger squad? Arguably we have the second best first eleven in the league but in my opinion we’ve missed out on strengthening the squad and pushing on this season. I just hope it doesn’t bite us on the arse.

With you on that, Ed01. With Utd and and Chelsea, nobody on the planet IMO, knows what they are going to get from either team this season as there is so much uncertainty. Arsenal made signings to address issues they did not have and did not address the defensive crap show they do have (sorry, David Luiz makes them weaker, not stronger, IMO) .

While tho Spurs made some encouraging signings, Eriksen (their best to second best player with Toby) still wants to leave and no one knows how the signings will pan out. City tho loaded and has the best squad in the league (has been doe a decade) still have issues at CB cos Stone and Otamendi are a disaster, IMO. As for LFC, I think we are good to go even tho AB being out is a concern. Just my opinion, Ed.

{Ed001's Note - Pegleg is just being ridiculous. The outs have not weakened the team, the younger players are improving as they gain experience and so strengthening the team and there are a couple of youngsters that have been brought in. It is blatantly obvious to anyone that isn't just being a contrary arse that the squad has improved. Some people are just negative for the sake of it. Pegleg should stick to his embarrassing attacks on all of our players as he clearly is just here to slag off anyone connected with Liverpool. You would think his embarrassing comments about Origi had done all the biting on the arse that was needed for him to realise he is just clueless.}

Got to be remembered we had a bit of an injury crisis before the wolves game last season particularly in defence.

Forget City Redwolf, they’ve got nothing to prove imo as treble holders. Fernandinho will slot to CB.
I do agree with Ed001 though, a team along the lines of the above is stronger, and more importantly, better motivated than that horror show at Wolves last season.
The younger players in the squad look very promising and they have to get some game time. The cups are ideal for that.
There’ll be a review next Summer. With another year off Klopp’s current deal gone, I’m sure that FSG will do everything to keep him happy.

If the squad has improved, it is marginally. We have some youngsters, unproven at premier league level. Not a huge leap in quality from last seasons squad but fingers crossed that Klopp has seen enough in the kids to be confident they can help add to our silverware this season. I remain sceltical.

{Ed0333's Note - having the luxury of picking Keita and Ox deffo improves the squad in terms of quality. Our bench was strong yesterday. Second to only City imo.

Got to say, City surely win most of the domestic stuff this year, they just have so much more quality. Plus if we get injuries we are screwed, losing alison first game is awful!

i just read an article saying that the owners have told Klopp to put all of his focus only on the league and champions league. I find that hard to believe personally.

{Ed002's Note - They would have said nothing of the sort - they would certainly have made clear that their major desire is to win the Premier League - but that has been explained repeatedly on these pages.}

13.) 11 Aug 2019
11 Aug 2019 15:32:17
Yeah that article was silly. I can’t imagine any owner saying anything like that especially John Henry he wants to win everything.

I read the same thing stone and its actually in few different media outlets . of course it does n't make it more believable but I do believe one of the versions that state Klopp was told/ 'greed with' to prioritise the league and champions league over the domestic cups .

Stone, I knew that was garbage the moment I read that report. It just doesn't make sense cos well, no upstanding owner would ever do such a thing and FSG are IMO, upstanding owners and I am glad Ed02 killed that noise.

Do they want the PL? Absolutely. Have they made that known to Klopp? I am sure that is the case. That to me, is where that ends. In fact, Klopp said that he is trying to win every trophy possible this season in an interview he game the RedmenTV channel on Youtube and we could see that cos he went for it in the CS already and will go for it on Wed.

The Juicer, I don't believe for a second that Pep deliberately, will use Fernadinho at CB. If that was the case, why did he want Maguire to begin with only to pull out of the deal cos he cost too much? Could it be that he actually does not trust either Stones and Otamendi to pair with Laporte? Also, are you trying to tell me that Pep would be comfortable putting a 34 yr old DM who never plays CB, at CB against a team like us? I dare him to try that in a big game in the PL vs any of the top 4 teams cos he will be a sitting duck all game long.

I agree with you that Pep may be resigned to playing Fernadinho there should the situation require it BUT I don't think he meant to do that as a strategy. Pep does not operate like that. Either way, I still believe that Otamendi and Stones are a disaster (as we saw in the CS last week when the pressure was on) and him not replacing Kompany (the glue that kept the team together last season, esp. ) could come back to haunt them in certain games in the PL this season. We shall see.

Anyone who thinks we are not stronger as a team this year is blind. Our only outgoings were players who never offered anything productive. We didn't have OX and Brewster as options last year, this year we do. Origi wasn't used for half of last season same as Gomez. Fabinho and shaqiri didn't feature for a couple of months and lallana invisible all year. Keita who offered very little will be very likely to improve. We are hugely improved. Our bench had matip, Milner, OX, keita, Shaqiri, mane. All of those players have spent time as regular starters in the last year and ox was first choice before injury. We weren't capable of having that strong a bench last year. Lovren, lallana and Brewster couldn't even make the squad. Moreno and sturridge wouldn't make the bench anymore either.

Yeah redwolf I agree. I didn't post that to say that i agreed with it, just to say that garbage was out there.

I also agree with your assessment of City. I know that we have been shakey in the back but I'd take our back line and front line against anyone's in the league. I am a little concerned (just a little) about our midfiled., but I really like our chances against city home and away this season.

{Ed025's Note - city,s defence is bloody awful stone...they did in fact concede 3 league goals in the last third of last season....that never worked...lets talk about how the refs dont give fouls against them or they way they cheat FFP..

22.) 12 Aug 2019
12 Aug 2019 00:55:56
Ed25, I see your sarcasm but will ignore it as I have a much salient point to make. City's defence IS awful provided a team is ready to put pressure on them, something they rarely have to deal with in the PL. Or do you want to deny that Spurs did not do serious damage to them in last year's CL when the pressure was on that weak defence? They conceded 3 goals at home in the return leg which is what eventually sent them packing. Palace also put 3 past them in the PL last season. If you concede 3 goals at home, you don't deserve to win, period. We will see what happens this season.

{Ed025's Note - most of your points are salient redwolf..
