Regardless of your opinion on Klopp and his decision not to play the senior squad tonight what cannot be denied is that this will impact on Shrewsbury . No TV coverage due to the team Liverpool will field and a likely reduced gate tonight will mean they loose around 500k . That is a life line to a club like that, it is financial security for some time to come. I never want any Liverpool team to loose, but will not be disappointed if its Shrewsbury at Stamford Bridge in a few weeks time. They deserve that big game, in front of a full house against a quality first team. And Frank Lampard will play a decent team as he knows what the FA cup means to people and it is Chelsea's only realistic hope for a trophey . So good luck to our boys tonight go and make yourselves proud, but also good luck Shrewsbury.

I get they lose potential revenue but then look at it the other way this is there best chance to get into the next round? earn some money against us then earn a lot more in the next round? they should be relishing this chance.

{Ed002's Note - Rubbish - the whole thing relates to the arrogance and lack of respect that Klopp and Liverpool show others. Nothing more, nothing less.}

2.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 10:42:39
Bit silly out of the FA scheduling replays during the supposed winter break aswell.

{Ed002's Note - The club knew about it last April. Try not to keep looking for someone else to blame. It is embarrassing.}

3.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 10:43:05
Ed02, I think we all get it by now - there is nothing that Klopp or Liverpool can do that will find favour with you. Fair enough, I feel the same about Everton, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea and whoever is managing those clubs at any point in time.

{Ed002's Note - You are a moron if you think I have anything against Liverpool. If you don't want the truth you should persuade everyone to stop asking any questions at all. Stop making stupid statements. If you would like I could delete the posts that are not 100% factually correct. Anything else you want?}

I actually think it's a bit of a d*ck move by Klopp, personally. The players that played in the away fixture were either kids or players needing minutes.

Would it really be the end of the world if the players needing minutes (who actually performed pretty poorly) got 3 days less break, but a chance to make ammends?

Also, for Klopp to not be in the dugout?

The team that played the away fixture (minus Fabinho, as he played and showed that he's back up to scratch against Southampton) should be playing to put it right.

The only positive I can even extract from this situation is that it'll be good for the kids to get some game time, and that's the only positive that I can see here. It wouldn't have impacted badly on anyone's fitness if they got 2-3 days less winter break, unless obviously they pick up a knock in the game, but that can be said about any game.

What's the point in discussing about this any further? This is just my thinking. Not against anyone. Just that maybe we can come up with new discussion topics instead of this?

6.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 11:30:59
So yes or no? was it or was it not silly to arrange possible replays during a supposed winter break? it makes a farce of the whole idea of a break.

Klopp has every right to pick whoever he likes to play in tonight’s game of course, but he should be on the touch line managing the team. This is a first team fixture, and Klopp is the first team coach. Truthfully I doubt he expected the reserve side to beat Everton, and had made his plans well before that. He also probably expected the same team to subsequently beat Shrewsbury first time round and not need a replay.
However, I don’t buy the argument that Shrewsbury will lose out on £500,000 or whatever has been quoted due to a loss of TV revenue relating to Klopp not being present and the likelihood of a fringe team being played - blame the TV companies for that. He is entitled to choose whoever he wants within his squad, whether they be regulars or the under 17’s. It’ll likely be a better spectacle now anyway, rather than the probable pasting our first team would inflict.
Regardless, as the manager he should be there coaching his side through.

I get people live Klopp and will defend him to the earths end, but this is a disrespectful thing to do. We will almost certainly get knocked out and it only causes hurt to the fans. This is the FA cup, steeped in tradition and a very respectable cup to win.

People won’t admit it, but if Pep or Mourinho did the same, everyone on these pages would slaughter them for the same decision.

9.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 12:01:28
It is not Liverpool's (or any other team) responsibility to look after the financial security of other clubs.

Klopp is entitled to field whatever squad he wants in which ever competition he wants.

If he thinks giving the senior team a full 2 week break increases their chances of winning the Premier League and Champions League then he must do it.

10.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 12:36:44
They should look on the bright side, if Liverpool had done the job in the first game they wouldn't be getting the extra £100,000.
I think we will beat them tonight.

11.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 12:43:35
I think Ed002 has been pretty complimentary forwards liverpool recently.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

I personally agree with the decision to field the Under 23’s. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to play at Anfield, under the floodlights in what will be a near full house. We had to play the 23’s in what was ridiculous timing between the CWC and the league cup.

The most important thing for liverpool football club is the league, that’s our priority along with the champions league.
I have openly said on here, I love a good cup run, especially the FA cup but it’s different this season.

Unfortunately football is all about money these days and has been since the early 90’s. More and more clubs have been disrespecting the cups in recent years, not only with clubs at the top but also the bottom. The riches of the premier league is more important to owners these day.

12.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 13:00:08
I’m glad I’m not alone in thinking Klopp should be there tonight, got a fair bit of stick last week when I said that in my opinion he was out of order not being on the touch line for tonight’s game.

13.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 13:02:35
Couldnt have put it better myself, Drogie. Everyone is crying out for the kiddies to get opportunities. Now is the perfect chance versus Shrewsbury to show what they are capable of. Meanwhile, the first team get a rest before the final run-in. Win-win situation imo. I don't see it as disrespecting the cup as much as utilising the full manpower while giving the youngsters a chance.

14.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 13:12:51
The FA Cup is dead. It died years ago and everyone knows it.

15.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 13:13:34
It would be more arrogant if klopp was on the touchline, pretending to be the coach of a team he isn't. He is the senior coach, not the u23s. And, because of the winter break (which klopp has fought for from day one, and finally got) the seniors can't play.

Don't feel sorry for shrewsbury. They are buzzing. Tiny club that has a genuine chance of progressing. Anfield will be full, when isn't it? And the game will be on lfctv and therefore streamable. Shrewsbury also get a good gate and might get another against Chelsea.

But I think the young guns will do it. Yes, we should have beat them and avoided this nonsense. I'm glad klopp has stood his ground. I don't feel embarrassed at all. If you want to make a difference then you have to stand your ground. Ed02, I like you man, and your insight is invaluable to a real football fan, but Liverpool fans are the complete opposite of embarrassed these days. And if the kids win tonight that smile will be even wider.

16.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 13:29:26
I think a liverpool u23 side should be able to give a team currently 16th in league one a good game. I also fancy us to get the win 2nite.

17.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 14:18:19
How many days more are we going to talk about this? . and as said by some of you- this is a platypus move? Let it be, this is the guy who is going to bring us a lot of other happy memories let him have his platypus move. Seam like people have nothing else then to regurgitate the same thing over and over again.

18.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 14:21:32
Klopp has openly criticized the scheduling or 4th round replays during the "break". He has spoken out against the schedules and needing to give players more breaks to extend their careers. He's just made a decision to stick to his word and it seems like the club are backing him.

Agree or disagree, I think we could all take a page out of his book when it comes to your principle and backing it up with action in the court of public opinion.

19.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 14:56:11
From what Critchley has said I take it some of the players are going to be really young. He said it wouldn't be the U23's but more of an U20 side. Who knows we may get a new young star for the first team.

20.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 15:00:27
Whether it's a crappy move by Klopp, or not, I'm sick to death of people saying young players are not given a chance and when they are the whole world is up-in-arms about it. I think Captain Curtis Jones will have a very hard match this evening. I do not think we are favourites to win but good luck all around and I hope they perform in a manner that makes them all proud regardless of the outcome.

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with young players being given a chance or not being given a chance. Clearly you don't grasp the issue.}

21.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 15:43:10
Since when is it Liverpool’s job to be a financial life line for Shrewsbury?
No ones ever done pool any favours. Fa/ premier league buried their heads as Hicks and Gillette almost put us into admin. If clubs had responsible owners, followed ffp etc, they shouldn’t need to be clinging on to the hope extra fa cup matches.
I hope our kids absolutely smash and embarrass Shrewsbury.

22.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 15:48:39
Lad's and Ed's I said last week that he can field whatever team he want's but at the very least be there himself. After all he is the manager not Neil Critchly and disrespect to NC either.

23.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 16:11:56
I’m surprised Klopp is not going to be there but let’s face it the FA Cup has been in decline since the PL and especially since the CL’s inception in its current format. They even allowed Utd to not take part one year so they could compete in the CWC so they really can’t now whinge when teams do not prioritise it.
Klopp is employed by LFC and I’m sure he’s been given his priorities at the start of the season and you can bet your bottom dollar the FA Cup isn’t one of them.
He is more than fulfilling his obligation to the club and the fans by being 22 points clear in the league and being European and World champions.
Do I think he should be there tonight? Probably. Do I give a toss as long as we maintain our League and CL form? Not at all.
I understand why Ed2 is saying what he’s saying and if Chelsea where in our position and Fat Frank did what Klopp’s done I’d probably give him grief for it because I’m not emotionally invested in anything Chelsea do so it’s very easy to criticise.
As for Liverpool I want whatever is best for Liverpool and if that means the players and Klopp taking a week off then so be it.

Klopp is by far the most in demand person at the club. He will leave our club a legend, he has earned the right to do what he thinks is best for the club as a whole. He needs this rest, how do people know how is health is, mental state, personal life etc. Be very careful not to flog him to death or he will walk.

Klopp has won the cl
Klopp will win the pl this year

What do supporters want? Instead of whinning just be supportive and bloody happy.

26.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 17:45:34
Robbie, I fully agree with you. Klopp is not the U23 manager/ coach. Critchley is so why would Klopp go there, sit on the bench and watch Critchley literally coach the team. Klopp would have next to no input on proceedings anyway and he won't act like he does so again, why should he be there? Just to act like he is involved whereas he isn't? Klopp will NEVER do what he does not believe in so like it or not, those are the facts. Why? He said so himself in his press conference last week.

Also to those saying Klopp should be there, I listened to the last podcast by Ed01 and I learned that actually, the Villa EFL game was asked to be moved to this winter break period by LFC and the FA said NO that the winter break needs to be respected. Yet at the same time, the FA schedule the FA Cup replay within the same winter break period they said NO games should be played. So in essence, the FA screwed LFC twice. Now if what was said in the podcast is true then Klopp has my full support in whatever he chooses to do at that point.

The FA offered Klopp NO help when we needed it with the CWC and the EFL Cup scheduling issue so to me, Klopp has the right to do what is right for himself, his players and the club and if that is him refusing to be an ornament/ statue on the bench or in the stands and going on vacay w/ his fam then so be it. Just offering another side to the story that people may not know about.

27.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 18:48:46
Interesting about the EFL / FA thing.
One other thing though Redameister, you criticised Brendan Rodgers for not going to U23 and youth games during his spell as Liverpool manager but now you’re giving Klopp a pass?
The team that mucked up the first game at Shrewsbury (possibly bar Origi) should have been selected to put it right tonight in my view.
But I don’t feel particularly strongly either way, I can see both points of view.
It is a shame though.

28.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 18:49:04
best of luck to the Kids tonight, I hope they give their best, and I just hope we get the win,
but the Shrews will be well up for this game and I think it will be another tough one,
I just hope the defense holds out, it is a very young back five and maybe they will ship a couple of goals,
but hey we will score a couple too,
come on Critchley and the Kids .

29.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 19:23:04
All of this talk of "we CANNOT play any senior players, because they're on their PL winter break", just look at Newcastle's lineup against Oxford.

They've started Lascelles, Joelinton, the Longstaff brothers, Sharr, Almiron, Ritchie and Devlin, along with more senior players on the bench.

30.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 19:46:17
newcastle can pick any team that they choose too, but they won't be winning anything this season,
Klopp has chosen to rest his first team, as he was told to by the sweet FA,
when we win the Premiership and we are all celebrating, we will not be thinking about this game, and Klopp will be the great One .

31.) 04 Feb 2020

33.) 04 Feb 2020
04 Feb 2020 22:04:06
I could be wrong EP but I don’t think Newcastle are going for a Premier League and Champions League double. If they were, or were down in the relegation dogfight, then I doubt they would play first teamers either. Don’t you want number 19? You can only use the resources at your disposal and Klopp is doing just that. For me he’s called it just right.

34.) 05 Feb 2020
05 Feb 2020 17:40:33
Well the attendance last night proved he nobody cared, no other team would sell out for their youth team.
