If a club has agreed to buy a player next season, can they in the meantime sell the player to another club? For example Nicolo Barella is currently on loan with Inter but I understand there is an obligation to buy. Could another club come in and pay an exorbitant price to Inter for them to sell Barella as soon as they have his contract transferred to them? Or do they have to wait til Barella is officially their player?

{Ed002's Note - Nicolo Barella will join Inter in the summer - they will not be looking to sell.}

Sorry i was just using him as an example because he triggered the question for me. I was more wanting to know if theoretically Inter could negotiate the sale even though Barella is still technically another clubs player? As in - when can a club legally start negotiating the sale of a player? Is it only when they actually have his contract? No real reason for the question - just pure interest.

{Ed002's Note - There is no legal framework around negotiation but if there was only an option to buy a player the owning club would need to be involved. THis has been the casee in recent months with Stefano Sensi where Inter have an option to buy from Sassaulo in the summer but another club has been speaking to both to remove the option and take him themselves.}
