Morning Ed. Speculation today that Man City could face domestic punishments too in the wake of their alleged financial doping a la Saracens in the rugby.
I think that would be appropriate. As far as I’m concerned they’ve cheated Liverpool out of two PL titles.

{Ed001's Note - if they are guilty of breaching UEFA's ffp, they are also guilty of breaching the Prem's. The issue is that the evidence was obtained by an illegal hack, which means it probably won't be admissible in court, even though they are clearly guilty.}

Perhaps all the other clubs’ representatives could agree and force the issue. I’m feeling increasingly bitter about this and I can understand why Saracens were relegated now; hitherto I had some sympathy with them.
But it’s not right. City need to go.

{Ed001's Note - it has nothing to do with club's representatives, it comes down to CAS. If CAS let's City off the hook because of the way the evidence was gained, then there is nothing the Prem clubs can do as City can just appeal to CAS again.}

So we are in a position then Ed that City have potentially won league titles whilst breaking FFP?

{Ed001's Note - well yes, obviously as that is what this is all about, they have broken FFP rules.}

A good chance the appeal can get them out of any punishment at all then Ed including a European ban.

{Ed001's Note - yep, very good chance.}

What amazes me is uefa put ffp out there but need an illegal havk to find evidence of the cheating practices of man city psg etc hopefully it gets upheld and man city are rightfully punished.

{Ed001's Note - why would you expect UEFA to be able to do something that no police force around the world has been able to effectively police? They are a sports governing body, what kind of investigative arm do you think they have?}

IMO In situations like this, what is done in the court of law or in this case CAS, matters way less than what happens in the Court of Public Opinion. City can be off the hook by CAS but to me, the damage is done on a PR level. They cheated, end of story. That is the point here.

Trust me, they will never be able to get out from underneath this on a PR level. All the trophies they will win from now on, will be tainted and tho their fans (all 50 of them) may not care BUT they don't live in a vacuum. City are DONE.

I am surprised that people think that cas will overturn this. Surely Man City have failed to comply with Eufa FFP and therefore should be sanctioned. They have obviously previously accepted Eufa FFP rules as they accepted and paid a fine for a previous breach. But as we know the law is an ass. Btw i do not agree with FFP rules myself.

Langland, I think the issue is the evidence was gained unlawfully. And any evidence collected illicitly will likely be thrown out, leaving the case against city threadbare and increases there chance of it being thrown out.

Apologies if I have the wrong end of the stick Ed’s, but to the every day bloke they look guilty as sin. However the law may say otherwise.

I think they'll get away with it. Money talks.

Robbie I couldn't agree more, put the dosh in the right persons pocket and you're laughing. It'll happen on this case. Always the same. You have dosh you can get away with anything.

I find it a bit weird that people can be done for discrimination for making one inappropriate comment in a private text conversation and then being exposed, but thousands of emails presenting evidence of clear corruption and cheating on a massive scale is somehow not fair game?

IMO, I know that the evidence was got in an illegal manner (hacking is illegal and there are criminal penalties for that) however, City at least to me, never denied the verification of the evidence. They knew the evidence against them (illegally exposed or not. was damning hence, they based their defence on something else. Now whether CAS will consider this still remains to be seen as this is not a criminal case but to me, City got caught doing what they were already reprimanded and fined for in the past and did it on a brazen level.

{Ed001's Note - actually they said the emails were taken out of context.}

Oh ok, Ed. My bad. I will be sure to use that reason the next time I write and inappropriate email to a female colleague at work and Human Resources dept. are bearing down on me.

{Ed001's Note - good luck with that.}

In my opinion the fact that the emails were gained via a hack are of no consequence because if you can just hide evidence from the authorities by not sending the requested information or falsification of the information then you deserve to have the info hacked so that justice can be done otherwise why don't we all cheat and hide the truth?

Whatever we want to say or think, process is important. So if City have identified flaws, and there appear to be obvious ones, then that will get exposed easily.
