Hi Ed1,

Bit of a blast from our recent past, but what were your thoughts on Martin Kelly? I remember being at anfield watching his debut against Lyon when he was about 17/ 18.

I thought he looked a real prospect and never recovered from bad injuries personally.

{Ed001's Note - he did look a decent prospect but he never really filled out and lacks the strength for centre-back and the skill for full-back.}

Didn't he impress for a while and even got an England call up?

Injuries ravaged Martin Kelly cos even tho he was a bit rough around the edges, his desire, drive and determination to succeed was undeniable and prolly could have turned out to be another Jaime Carragher, IMO.

He tore his hamstring very badly racing down the line at West Ham, I remember it very well. He was never the same player from then, it restricted his ability and confidence to get forward as a FB. Haven’t seen him much following his departure from Liverpool though tbh.

agreed, wasn't the same player after his injuries and didn't improve thereafter.
