Edds I know he was poor but in your opinion why didn't Harry Kewall work out. Its a while back I know.

{Ed001's Note - attitude and injuries. He was a bit lazy and picked up injuries.}

Only for Harry Kewell we would never have won the champions league back in 2005.
Or should I say only for his injury and got subbed changed the whole tactics for that match, he got a little niggle and the physio tried to get him to walk it off but he was having none of it and asked to be subbed. That's when Smicer came on after a couple of minutes because he didn't have his boots on and the rest is history.

I remember an interview after a match when he said he wasn't 100% fit. Carra was not far away and when they interviewed him he said he played unless he was 100% unfit.

{Ed001's Note - I didn't like him at all. Apart from his embarrassing diving, he was such a coward who shirked challenges and wanted to be mollycoddled constantly. One of the worst signings the club has ever made imo, when you consider the cost (for the time) and the talent he had. If he had broken a sweat just once, I might have had a bit of time for him, but he was so far up his own backside, he thought making an effort was beneath him.}

Thought there was a big stink at the time that Liverpool' stole' him because Leeds were in dire need of funds, 7 million they paid, doesn't seem that much, considering Man utd. Paid 30million year before for Rio, I'm sure also Kewell got a silly amount of the transfer fee leaving Leeds with next to nothing, I may be wrong, but there was definitely something 😀.

{Ed001's Note - if it had been 7p it would have been too much. He was a s***house of the highest order.}

Hahahaha, don't sit on the fence! If it's any consolation utd paid moreorless the same for djemba djemba same year, have to admit I was looking forward to seeing him when he first signed, I wAs also quickly disappointed 😀.

{Ed001's Note - it was big money for us at the time. Rio was an anomaly rather than the norm you have to remember. And, to be honest, I think I am being nicer than Kewell deserves. Nobody joining the club they support has any excuse of any kind for not trying. Kewell was a Liverpool fan and yet he never tried for the club. Utterly unforgivable. That is the absolute minimum that should be expected of a player and he refused to even give that while picking up a huge wage.}

Thanks edds I always thought he was lazy but my old man thought he was great at Leeds.

{Ed001's Note - he was good at Leeds, just disappeared up his own backside when we bought him.}

lol Ed001 sugarcoat why don't you ;-) My perception of Kewell was that he only put the effort in when it was his last year of contract. I do remember though that there was some disagreement about whether the LFC staff physio was handling him correctly - didn't the socceroos send over their physio and things improved? Or was that just a coincidence because World Cup was coming up and he didn't want to miss it?

{Ed001's Note - it was simply because of the World Cup. He was a disgrace.}

I think he got a bit overhyped from his couple of seasons with Leeds who had a team that gelled well together but many of those key players like kewell never showed they were genuinely capable of stepping up and having a career at a higher level besides ferdinand. Woodgate, bowyer, viduka, Alan Smith all ended up having similar career paths of not being good enough at the bigger sides and seemingly struggled to deal with overcoming fitness issues. I think they just enjoyed 2 or 3 years on form together yet ultimately didn't possess the quality that many believed.
