Does the injury to Van Dyjk spell the end of our hope of retaining the title this season?

{Ed0666's Note - I’ve been asking myself the same question mate. I think it severely dents our chances but it’s not an impossible task. As the season goes on So many players will test Covid positive which will Obviously affect teams. Also with the games coming thick and fast players will invariably get more injuries than previous seasons so what’s to say the teams that are challenging for the title won’t get have their star players injured for a sustained period of time. There’s so many variables hence why I maintain this will be the toughest ever title to win. One things for sure tho I can’t see us go till the end of the season with Joe, Joel, Fab, Philips and Billy as our only forwards. I’m 99% certain we’ll get a center back in January either on loan or permanent.

Wow, the outlook is pretty grim if we get left with 5 defenders as our only forwards.

My concern would be whether or not this is almost career ending for VVD given how bad we’ve seen this type of injury affect other players. I’d be amazed if we saw him playing again before the 21/ 22 season and even then there’ll be those niggling injuries which come from being out long term. Couldn’t have come at a worse time as we have no funds but I really do think we need to buy a new CB in January but this time it needs to be someone who could replace VVD rather than play alongside him. Good knows where we find a player that good with our lack of funds.

Fully agree, Ed. It is not an impossible task cos the title this season is SO wide open, it is crazy. Leicester who blast City on their patch suddenly, cannot score a goal. Spurs who pammed Utd the last time, get done by losing a 3 goal lead under Jose, something that would ever happen under him previously. This is going to b a wide-open season and it will come down to the team that can handle adversity better and make less mistakes, IMO.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree mate at this rate Fulham could win it.
