Has anyone read Quiet Genius, a book on Bob Paisley, written by Ian Herbert? I learnt stuff I didn't previously know. When Shankly left he recommended to the board Jack Charlton as his replacement. Imagine where we would be now if they had listened to him. Paisley and Shankly clearly weren't the best of friends. That said, there weren't many players who played under Paisley who had a good word to say about him. As far as I'm concerned his trophy haul makes him the greatest British manager of all time, which is all what matters, but he certainly wasn't an arm around the shoulder type of manager.
An interesting read for those who haven't read it.

I remember Souness asking Paisley the question about what he should be doing before his first match as there was no mention of tactics, Bob's reply "we did not spend all that money on you to have to tell you how to play"
