Don't like to whine too much but anyone notice challenge made by Chilwell on a Leeds player that was identical to the one Robertson commited against Brighton? One given and one not even considered, all the more frustrating that the ref happened to be the VAR assistant who advised the ref to give the pen against Liverpool. Absolutely comical, I don't understand how VAR is improving anything if they can't make consistent decisions. Both aren't penalties if you ask me, but consistency would be nice.

It’s a joke. You can accept a referee making a mistake, things happen quickly on a football pitch and mistakes can happen. However to have two exact challenges happen and one is a penalty and one isn’t because of VAR is ridiculous, it has to go in my opinion, it’s damaging the game.

The whole VAR thing is convoluted and a farce. I doubt the referees even understand the rules and how VAR works themselves. Why is this VAR thing so much worse in Englands? The controversies seem to be ten fold in the premier league compared to other leagues.
The problem does seem to be Mike Riley and his incompetent refs who just make rules up as and when they please to suit their agenda.

IB, you have nailed it. The rules are literally non existent so whenever there is a VAR screw up, they just say that is the rule whereas the week before when the same thing happened, they said the opposite.

On the Robbo call, they said there was contact so it does not matter whether Welbeck dropped to the ground 3 days after. Yet when Salah was chopped to the ground vs Villa, not a peep from VAR cos well, the contact was not worth him going down and it was not clear and obv enuff for them to intervene. You see where I’m going with this?

Even look at Utd’s first goal, how that ball was not deemed to be out of play, I have no idea. Worst thing is that you did not need VAR to know it went out of play cos you could see it in real time. Yet they said all was fine after 5 replays clearly showed it went out of play. I guess when we prepare for games now, we should consider VAR as part of our prep work then.

RM, the problem with the United one was they couldn’t physically prove it. We all know it went out because of the trajectory of the ball but because it wasn’t black and white, or a camera clearly showing it was over they decided it wasn’t clear and obvious.

Basically they make it up as they go along.

As for the Chelsea incident apparently, as I haven’t seen it, the player stayed on his feet. If he had gone down the penalty would of been given. So again, just like Welbeck last week, the rules and officials are encouraging players to go down as that’s the only way they get a pen. But when players do go down, under very little contact, they all get abused for buying a pen. The whole thing is a mess.

Var should be got rid of. It's been absolutely terrible for the game.

The only thing it's really done is highlight how terrible Premier league referees are. It was better when they missed stuff rather than see them have video evidence and still get stuff wrong.

All the time refs gett picked on for being useless not true people either should put up or shut up try it see how difficult it is? because when refereeing a game of whatever level seems to be more refs at the side of the field thinking they know better a will agree VAR is about as good as Jordan pickford is a goalie.
