Liverpool football club is iconic . an institution. a stadium that has proven to affect results. some of the best players have played for the club. why is it that every bloody player wants to run like the wind to Barcelona cos it's "their dream" all of a sudden . as if Liverpool are fighting relegation?

Let me ask everyone is Barcelona a completely different level to Liverpool or am I missing sth?
Let me know your thoughts.

Redrebel1, I am a Liverpool fan through and through and as a player I’d only want to play for Liverpool as this was the dream as a boy, but even when I’ve been lucky enough to visit the Camp Nou the facilities, museum and city is brilliant and a lovely area, and a lot of players who have come from abroad will have watched the great Barcelona teams of the 2000s aswell as the 2010s and probably why they would love to still play there and get that feeling, regardless of Liverpool arguably being a better side the last few years.

Has nothing to do with Barcelona being a better club, there traditionally was a lot more money in Spain for players and the people there treat the stars like God's.
I suspect with the impact of C.V. and the decline of both Spanish Giants, the shift will move Germany next as that's where the money will shift to.

Foreign players, especially South American players want to move to Barcelona or Real Madrid. They are iconic clubs, even if they are going thru a dodgy patch. Plus the weather is better 🤣. It annoys me when a player of ours is mentioned in going to these clubs but it doesn't surprise at all.

If a player isn't from the area or the UK, it's quite reasonable to think that perhaps a player might dream of playing in a different country or club.
Curtis Jones or TAA are probably living out their dream.
Players like Gini, Salah, even VVD probably dreamt of playing for teams like Barca, Madrid, Milan, Ajax, Juventus, maybe alongside Liverpool and United.
I'm sure these players enjoy it here but it's not surprising to hear that they have eyes on other options.

OP that question seems a bit short sighted really.

Who a player plays for isn't just about whether the club is successful or not. It's about whether the player (and family) fit in and feel comfortable. It's about whether the city and culture is conducive to a good and enjoyable to player and family. It's about whether the weather is right for player and family.

Barcelona offers everything that most foreign players (in particular Latin America) are looking for.

While people can scoff and say prem is best and they should make decisions for their career not their family etc would any person thinking this move their family to a foreign country where they don't speak the language, the culture is totally different, the weather is different, the people are different and everything you enjoyed about your previous life and home is different but the company you work for is the best in the business?

Not many would. Footballers are people and so are their families and just like us they want the best for their family too.

Barcelona is also a much nicer place to live than Liverpool as well.
I love liverpool as a city and everyone who lives there but you can’t really compare.

Maybe the deal on offer is routinely better.

Don’t forget these are people we are dealing with who have families and lives outside of football. If he and his wife (I’m guessing he has one although it might be presumptuous) feel that they can have a better life in Barcelona then fair play they are probably right!
It’s not always a football decision.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree Barcelona is a stunning city. The women are tremendous the weather is salubrious, foods not the greatest and there’s a profound tradition of Dutch footballers embedded in the fabric of Barcelona FC. Can you blame him for wanting to leave?

The city of Barcelona is amazing. But the stadium is a dump. Non atmospheric tourist attraction with around 100 proper fans behind the goal. No songs or chants, the only time they make noise is to whistle and boo the ref.
It’s an iconic football club though, historically steeped with great players. And they have Messi.
