So I guess we need to be thinking top four this season let's be honest for various reasons we are not at the races. Feel we may have a better chance in the Champions League. What have been disappointing is klopps lack of use of subs when we have been playing ok but never looking like scoring. You have have all the pocession in the world but you have to put the ball in the net. On a positive note we still have a chance but its getting slimmer by the week.

Can't agree mate. In these games where we have dropped points lately, we've actually played some good footy. Last season we managed wins at times when playing poorly. That's just football. Teams know how to get a result against us, that's the issue, the tweaking that I'm sure they're working on. Having Thiago in the middle who isn't afraid to have a pop from distance will help in time, Jones too if he decides to. We need to draw defences out.
That said, our counter attacks have seemed non existent lately. Is that because we have 2 mids in defence? Hendo is great at releasing people early when a teams attack breaks down or we break from a corner, maybe that all adds to it?
Let's remember our front 3 have been collectively seen as the best on the planet for a few years now. I'm confident this will pass soon and they'll batter a couple of teams. The key is an early goal so teams can't sit back looking for a result.
Any idea how soon Jota is back anyone?

The reality is, we’ve been figured out. Athletico Madrid figured us out, and everyone on here denied it. But since that first leg I can count the times we’ve played to the level of previous games on one hand.
We have to change either the formation or one of the front three or we will just keep gradually slipping away until Klopp retires. We’re a great team and we have our injuries, but even so it’s gone stale.

The role Firmino plays has unravelled completely. You can clearly see that he doesn't believe he can score and defenders have finally realised this so their focus is on Mane and Salah which means they have no room to operate effectively. Try Minamino till Jota returns or even Origi, they surely deserve their chance. Firmino had a choice to make in the 2nd hslf when Mane was crossing the ball from the left and RF chose to go to Maguire's right - he is afraid to even miss.

Losing Jota has been huge for us, and made it incredibly difficult to freshen things up, but I’m also surprised we haven’t seen more of Minamino.

A less obvious problem this season has been the effectiveness of our FBs as an attacking force, as they’ve historically been able to stretch the defence and put real quality into the box. We had a few chances to do likewise against Man Utd but never really threatened. I sense that’s not been helped by the reshuffles required at CB which perhaps has forced them to be more conservative.

{Ed0666's Note - the caliber of crossing by Trent and Robbo has been shocking truly abysmal.

Ed0666 - I’m glad I am seeing what you’ve written. I’m absolutely sick of watching those two just toss in dismal, pathetic cross after dismal, pathetic cross; it genuinely makes my body tense having to view such basic bad attacking.
We were targeting 3 out-of-form 5’9 attackers for headed goals against a 17-foot Harry Maguire and an only slightly smaller Lindelof, and throwing in inaccurate crosses to do so. It is just so basic and makes us infuriating to watch.

{Ed0666's Note - they’ve both set such lofty standards and it pains me also to see them deliver sub par crossing. The whole team has forgotten how to play football it seems apart from Ali and the only way to remedy this is to buy a central defender and play Fab back in his rightful position. The whole world seems to think we’re gonna infringe FFP regulations if we buy or loan a CB but I’m not having it. I’m of the opinion it’s FSG being frugal and I can understand why as they don’t want to compromise the club. But if there was ever a time FSG used sentiment instead of business acumen this is the time. #JWHENRYNEEDAFUC*INCENTREBACKMATE

Agree we have also lost a world class defensive mid aswell as our top centre backs, by playing him out of position.

If we don’t get a CB and play Matip/ Phillips, allowing us to play Fab and Henderson in their proper roles and regaining our shape and composure in the middle, FSGs business model will have to be reshaped to a Europa League team. Gini has had his head turned and it shows, so has Salah. At times I think Mane has too, or he is just fed up with getting kicked almost every week. As for Firmino, he needs to be scoring 1 from 3 of the chances he had yesterday. That alone gave them so much confidence. As an early poster said, defences only need to concentrate on Salah and Mane at the moment because Senor is off the boil.
