It looked to me like Thiago and Wijnaldum both played as deeper midfielders with Jones pushed forward yesterday, a formation tweak that worked better I felt.
Of all the positions that I've seen Thiago in so far, that one was perhaps the better option. Certainly for an away PL game.
I hate to keep repeating this but he's more suited with someone to do much of his running for him.
The midfield as a whole worked more coherently I felt, not perfect but it looked a better fit all round.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when Fabinho is fit again though.

Was definitely a new system. In possession, Trent was almost in a back 3 at times with Phillips and Kabak. Thiago and Gini were essentially a double pivot. Jones and Robertson were both pushing so high it was almost a front 5. It worked. Sheffield were lucky it wasn't 3 or 4 and they only have poor finishing/ Ramsdale to thank for it.

We were also say about 20 yards deeper when we were defending which meant Adrian had a lot less ground to cover. I was pleased with the performance as a team, but Jones especially was sensational.

Spot on Juicer. I told you in the past that Thago was not brought in as a B2B mid getting all over the pitch. That has never been his game even at Bayern. He is more of a control, possession midfielder who can orient the game and pick incisive passes and the Bobbie chance at the beginning, came from his well weighted pass to Mane cos well, there was movement ahead of him, something that has been lacking in our forward play of late.

Also, I think Jones played on the left of the front 3 for some part of the game with Mane central and Mo on the right with Bobbie in the 10. These are the types of tweaks Klopp has been making in a couple of games now BUT we just have not either taking our chances or played well enuff to win due to poor play overall or defensive mistakes. Something to watch for.

That seems like a good summary to me MKS, I’m not going to argue with that 😃
Jones played well, I thought TAA was very good, in fact the whole team looked to be functioning better.
Get Jota back and things might just be on the up.
Big game v Chelsea though.
