Hi Ed, thanks for the review. Phillips and Kabak at the back don't fill me with confidence and I would not be confident starting the pair agains't Chelsea. I agree on Jones he is getting better and better, Firmino did much better his all round play was better. I hope his goal changes his mood in front of goal in future games. Thiago to me is still struggling a bit, I would play Milner instead on Thursday. Kante would be all over Thiago.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mark. I would rather Phillips and Kabak than playing Fabs back there instead of one of them though!}

Ed001 good report that and nice to be back to winning ways. Are you sure Bobby set up Jones for the goal. I’ve watched it back a few times and looks like a poor clearance from the Sheff Utd defender to me. Bobby should have had 2 in the first half and game done and dusted with. However he deserved that bit of luck as it was great feet from him to dance his way into the box. Sadly he seemed to make the hard bit look easy and panics on the finishing part. Perhaps Jota back might take pressure off him if we start scoring a plenty again.

{Ed001's Note - I thought Bobby backheeled it while in the air. He certainly attempted to do so.} Become a Patron!

Me too, Ed. Fab in midfield is now the way to for now as he will protect them much better than Gini and Thiago would, INO. We have CB options now so play them. As for the Chelsea game, that one has Jimmy Milner written all over it for me.

I also would prefer Phillips and Kabak over Fabinho in defence. Get Fabinho back in midfield protecting the back 4.

{Ed001's Note - I think we badly miss Fabinho in the midfield.} Become a Patron!

Fab, Milner and Jones in midfield could really protect them. But in this case I really don’t fancy Kabak at all he is not good at any part of defending. So as much as in pains me Fabs in defence. Midfield of Milner, Gini and Jones.

Mark it’s all well and good protecting the back 4 but we not exactly scoring for fun up the other end. I’d like to see Fab, Thiago and Jones in midfield. Thiago is getting the lions share of the blame for our recent form but even last season teams still got through our midfield but we had the man mountain Vvd there and Gomez with their pace, plus a formidable Allison. Last season we were scoring for fun but we also used to give opposition chances especially with our high line. This season arguably our strongest line up hasn’t played a single minute of football together. The closest they came was Chelsea (Thiago missed first half, Hendo missed second half) and Everton (no Allison and Vvd only played up until his injury) . I for one am Robert interested in seeing Thiago in a side with Hendo and Fab and even Jotaaking runs through the middle.

Phillips has been beaten by quality a few times this year but within his ability, he's barely put a foot wrong since his first minute on the field and has dealt with everything with a calm confidence. It was a joke seeing Williams who is clearly years away from being ready for top league football at best picked over him and it was ridiculous to see our entire midfield ripped apart to avoid using him. Long past time the man gets a little recognition - he will probably never be good enough to challenge for a starting spot at Lfc, but of our CB options at the moment he is doing the best by far.

I remember Carragher being unable to handle Drogba; even in his Marseille days. Hyppia could handle Drogba's strength better but not his pace. Carragher dealt with his pace better but Drogba used to bully him.
I never looked forward to facing Drogba.

Thiago doesn’t deserve his place atm JK. I would rather see Milner any day and even Keita . Thiago is short on confidence and is not helping attacking or defending he gives always so many free kicks. We need energy v Chelsea and Thiago can’t get round the pitch.

Drogba was an amazing player. I read somewhere (maybe on here from ed001) that he preferred playing up top on his own because he could was strong enough and willing enough to do the job of two men and he used to get frustrated with a strike partner getting in his way!

Mark, I agree with your midfield selection but sorry, Keita should b nowhere near the starting lineup. He has not shown at any point this season that he can do the job and it does not help that he lacks positional awareness when out of possession and I’m not even going to get into his dreadful injury record. Anyone but him, should start IMO.

Shouldn’t we wait judge Thiago with Fab In midfield. Granted he hasn’t played to the levels we know he can but he is playing out of position. Jones deserves to keep his place so that would be my 3 in midfield. Kabak has filled my with zero confidence thus far but he is just a kid, at a new club, in a new country in the worst of circumstances so I can’t really be too harsh on him. Davies is meant to be steady, albeit in the Championship so maybe we should try him alongside Phillips. One thing for sure is Fab should be in midfield at all costs and not in defence but I have a sinking feeling Klopp might play him there on Thursday.

Alonso1786 wait for Thiago cos he is struggling playing out of position in a struggling team? Are you serious? Patience is a dead virtue among the a huge part of the modern day football fan base, regardless of what club said fanbase supports.

Milner or Keita before Thiago? Not a chance!
