Think Nat Philips may have a decision to make come summer. Not many shining lights come out of this season but he can come out and hold his head up high. He not got the composure of vvd, the pace of gomez or the injury record that matip has but he has got heart and by heck a lot of it. Think if things seem to go to plan Konate may become a lfc player, now that leaves vvd, konate, matip, gomez plus Phillips then Rhys and even fabino play cb (not that I want him too) but if we assume konate and vvd starters and play most games then matip and gomez rotate along with them I can't see Nat getting more than Caraboa cup games. Yes we have had injuries at the back all season but this isn't the norm.

I'd keep Nat at the club as insurance till January just to assess VVD and Gomez's injury progress (whether they can play 2 games in a week) .
If there are no further setbacks for Vvd and Gomez, then only I'd let Nat move on.

Rhys will be going back to the reserves or out on loan for more experience so we can rule him out. As for Phillips, it will depend on if we can move Matip, IMO. If we cannot for some reason then, we may have to sell Phillips to raise funds. This possibility cannot be ignored, IMO regardless of the fact that many of us would like to keep him.

{Ed002's Note - I don't think you will find Klopp looking to let Matip go.}

A fit Matip is streets ahead of Phillips IMO.
VVD, Gomez, Konate and Matip would be ideal.
It’s just having them fit.
Sounds like Phillips could be sold?

FIT Matip juicer! FIT being the word!
I’d be rid of Matip ASAP between him and that wage robber Keita they are the most unreliable players I’ve even seen!

Everyone keeps saying sell Matip but I’m not aware of any interest.
If the club can get his health issues fixed, that’s the ideal solution surely?
If it’s something chronic and on-going, then he’s not going anywhere in any case until his contract expires.
Of the two options, I’d prefer a fit and healthy Matip.
European Cup-winning CB by the way, never mind MoM at Turf Moor.

A fit Matip is rarer than rocking horse poo.

I am a massive Joe Gomez fan but I can't believe posters who have him as one of four available CBs. He has had three career threatening injuries all occuring in non contact situations. Have we not learned anything from this season?

A fit Matip is best cb at the club. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gomez sold if one has to. Klopp loves Matip and why wouldn’t he.

Personally I'd like to see Nate alongside VvD for a few games. Could be very effective.

Matip is an excellent defender, no doubt about that. But claiming he's the best is claiming that he's better than Van Dijk.
A little overzealous to say the least.

Greatest ability is availability. love Matip, just hope he can get a good run of months together without injury.

Claiming you'd want to see Phillips play next to Vvd is just plain crazy though.

Phillips would be one of the better 4th choice Cbs in the league, behind Ake and Zouma but I can't think of any others. If he is happy in that position (and considering the stage of his career and the injury issues of 2 of the 3 above him, he should be) then he should stay and save us a lot of money and effort by securing 4th choice.
