Wijnaldum signing for Barcelona on lower wages than we were giving him. What happened to him apparently wanting to be one of our top earners? Wouldn’t be the first time Liverpool based journalists tried to paint a player out to be the bad guy because he’s leaving. Done it with Coutinho and Sterling. They’re already pushing the narrative about Salah being selfish and high maintenance.

Gini said “I will have a look at my story and how everything went. The fans deserve to know the story behind it” I wouldn’t have kept him personally but I hope he wasn’t forced out.

Well why didn't he sign the deal for higher wages here then? And who says he's getting lower wages at barca? Couthino going on strike and forcing a move didn't need spinning and I'm yet to see one reliable Liverpool based journalist say anything of the sort by salah.

I thought it was purely related to contract length? where he wanted longer then what was being offered by the club.

We should have offered him whatever contract he needed. The guy is super fit and whether you like it or not was the main stay of midfield in the team that won the league and title.
He also has been ever-present this season. Sometimes you keep players for characters they are. Gini seemed a likeable fellow and dod command respect.
I know be ruthless and this and that. But Gini def should have been kept. Esp since keita and ox haven't worked. He is one midfielder who can work in many number of midfield combinations. I think he has been forced out for some reason. Its a very American thing to do.

I was a little worried when we let emre can leave for free. But now this is becoming kind of a theme. I thing salah will be next moving on for free.

"American thing to do". You're a knob! Give Gini whatever he wanted? I have always backed Gini and believe he was highly underrated but that doesn't justify giving him whatever he needed.

{Ed002's Note - He is just another ignorant xenophobe.}

I wonder if he’s getting a sign on fee?

For arguments sake say he wanted 5 years, why as a club would you give him that?

That ties him to the club for 5 years so we'd have him until 35. The sell on fee would be minimal, the chance of injury would increase so risk of investment would be high.

I don't blame the club for letting him go on this one, just wished he went last year so we could get a fee for him.

Maybe, as much as Gini is clearly liked within the club as a bloke, the club hierarchy just don't think he's played well enough to justify giving a multiyear deal to?

Regardless of whether he wanted more money, the same money or even less money?

Gini Wijnaldum is exactly the kind of player that needed replaced, not because he isn't very good but because he's getting on and we need a freshen up. For me, other than his impeccable fitness Gini is easily replaceable.

Is Akira Harry?

Akira, you are talking porkies bro. "That is the American thing to do". Care to explain that statement? What is "American" in a club's heirachy not wanting to pay a guy who they thought was not worth the money he was asking for esp since he was not getting any younger?

When we chose not to resign Emre Can? Was that the "American thing to do" cos we did not resign a guy who we thought was not worth the money? And it is not like Can pulled up any trees afterwards and in fact, Fab was his replacement and by all accounts, he proved the decision to be the right thing to do. This is insane stuff.

No, we will never just "give any player whatever he wants" just cos some fans can't get over the fact that the player in question was not deemed worthy of such reward. I love Gini to bits but it was time for him to go and he needs to accept that and so do you and dragging other pathetic narratives into it to make it like Gini was hard-done by in some way, is just weak and dishonest.

Regardless of what you think of Wijnaldum i’m a bit baffled as to how so many people have forgotten that players move on all the time and it is a normal part of the game. Why people just want us turn into United and throw mad contracts out for no reason other than the player being ‘likeable’ i will never know - i’ve even seen some people insinuate that we should pay £18 million for Kabak because he is likeable and they feel sorry for him!

Squad isn’t getting any younger and whether you love him or loathe him we have to start somewhere.

{Ed0666's Note - Klopps in his 50’s I think he needs to go aswell 😀

Gini is easily replaceable?
That I don't agree with.
Gini could do a bit of everything well in the midfield role. His game intelligence, strength on the ball and willingness to sacrifice his own game are something that definitely won't be easy to replace.

I like Gini and wish he stayed, but I find it hilarious that there is the outpouring of emption to his departure. It's a bit like mourning missing out on Pepe to Arsenal and mourning the loss of coutinho lol

End of the day, we couldn't reach an agreement. I'd love to read the story when it comes out just for the drama of it! But if you look at the squad, we already have a packed and experienced midfield. Jones is coming through and I think Gini has been the one who has become surplus.

Agreed Anonymous - it’s a normal part of the process that players will move on. It doesn’t always have to be ‘forced out’ or ‘unreasonable demands’ or some other drama, so why do we need to drag this all out in the social media and lay blame somewhere?

The lad played brilliantly for Liverpool and has ended his contract and both parties have moved on - who cares why so long as both sides are happy and have behaved with respect? There could just have easily been a fantastic reason for this (eg. Klopp wanting to gradually rotate in new talent like Jones given the ages of Hendo, Milner, Thiago etc…)

Don't people even think before posting? "The American thing to do". That had "cruising for a bruising" written all over it.

It's like people write only for the guy in the mirror, and anything and everything is passable. I want to write moron, but I won't.
