Strange squad selection. I know it's selfish as LFC Supporter but would of rather seen Hendo left out as he hasn't played for a while Trent could of done with the time off to get some rest and ready for a preseason. Taking players like Maguire, who is injured, Sterling who is playing very poor, same for Rashford and leave Watkins back doesn't make a lot of sense but then again we are talking Southgate. 1/ 4's or semi's if they are lucky and get a few breaks.

If they do 3 at the back then Walker and James can both play right sided CB. Gareth obviously thinks Trent can play midfield too. Trippier also being involved seems odd to me.

Unless England are playing 5-2-3 I feel like they've gone abit OTT with defenders!

Everything about Southgate is just odd. Just watching his press conference and saying he could have picked more right backs is baffling. The fact he has his favourite Mr Trippier sat next to him is telling. All that talent at his disposal but knowing him he will probably go for Rashford and Sterling alongside Kane. On form Foden and Mount has to start but it’s an easier option to drop them than his best buddies.

That squad needs a proper manager or one that’s even half decent and in Southgate they have neither. Luckily I ain’t too fussed about the internationals. Although it is a shame such a talent bunch of young talent will go to waste on the international stage.

Maximosa, Southgate is who we all thought he is: A coward. He knew nobody with any sense would buy the fact that not taking Trent was due to him being a poor player or defender. Trent showed him up by taking up his challenge and TAA balled out. So of course, he could not leave him at home so he made up some stink about TAA prolly playing in midfield or some other wretched reason. He tried to blacklist Trent from the team and TAA made him eat his words cos we all know Trippier is his fav and Trent outplayed him this season. Just my opinion, of course.

I don’t think i’ve ever actually attributed the word ‘hate’ to a manager before. I don’t care about England so much but i’d be a lot more sympathetic to the cause if that absolute tool wasn’t in charge.

It isn’t just that he’s one of the worst managers i’ve ever seen, it’s that he is an objectively terrible person. He repeatedly hangs his players out to dry so that he can blab to the press about his indisputable managerial genius. He did it with Gomez and Sterling, he has done it with Grealish, he has done it with Greenwood and Foden, and he has now done it with Trent. He makes mountains out of molehills and opens his mouth when no other manager would, when nobody is bothered about his opinion. His stunt with the 33 man provisional squad reeked of not wanting to upset anyone and buy himself more time to figure out how to come out of it as best as he could. He even once snapped in an interview about people mocking his preference for Mason Mount on twitter. The England manager has admitted he is actually affected and influenced by what people say about him on twitter. Just let that sink in for a second.

This England crop should be coasting to the final but probably won’t make it past the round of 16 at best. He’ll play all the out form players in all the wrong positions, and 4 right backs will be on the pitch no matter what. A 3 at the back system that none of these guys are used to will be implemented. A single goal from open play was scored in the 2018 world cup and England saw fit to give him all the time in the world. An utterly incompetent and despicable manager. The squad is completely unbalanced. do we not create English midfielders anymore? I assume 2 Defensive mids and counter attacking.
Its most improbable but I would move heaven and earth to sign Bellingham when possible. he would be the perfect fit to our Central 3!

Agree with AW - England have a genuinely brilliant squad of players and should be favourite to win the tournament. We won’t, though.

Ed0666, in club football I’d agree with that - Stones and Maguire would be an average PL defence at best. I think they will be much better at international level, however. Both are technically secure in possession, which counts for much more in the slower pace of international football, and is why the likes of Hummels look so much more accomplished in internationals.

I also don’t see particularly strong CB partnerships anywhere. Portugal’s is fine, France’s is also decent, but that’s honestly it.
