Ed001, hypothetical question for you. If salah were to leave for big money, would you buy a like for like replacement or use jota and integrate Elliot over the season and spend the money elsewhere?

Personally I would use jota and Elliot and use the money on somebody like Jude Bellingham, very young and someone who is going to be a world beater in the next few years!

{Ed001's Note - I doubt we would get Bellingham right now and I don't see a like for like replacement for Salah anywhere. So I am not sure. I am not convinced Jota is ready to step in and play every game like Salah pretty much does, or even close to it. I don't see Elliott as ready to take Salah's minutes either, so we would need to sign someone there to replace Salah, though I can't think who.}

If Salah were to go, I would go for Raphinha and Vlahovic.

Chiesa.

The system would need to be tweaked if Salah was to go to suit who ever replaces him.

If salah leaves we need to find some one of 2 players to score us 25 goals a season. hopefully he pens a new deal.

If Salah leaves we should put Mane back on the right (he is better there anyway) and sign Insigne to play on the left.

He is a similar age to Salah but far less reliant on physical attributes. So could step in straight away as a winger capable of 15-20 league goals a season. Also wouldn't step on the toes of Jota and Elliott going forward as he is at an age where he won't be in their way for a decade. He can also play false 9 so it's competition for Firmino.

Additionally, i think he's the perfect player for Elliott to learn from as they are very similar in style with the only real difference being Insigne is right footed so cuts in off the other wing.

{Ed025's Note - the only difference between insigne and elliott is that he is right footed?....hmmmm..

I didn't say that at all Ed025. I said that's the main difference in their **style of play**. Calvert-Lewin has a similar style of play to Didier Drogba but that doesn't mean he's in his league 🤫😉.

{Ed025's Note - oh right MK i thought it was a comparison, because one is a serious baller and the other a wally with a man bun...i will let you decide which is which mate.. :)

MK, Insigne tho brilliant player, will be 30 this year hence, older than Salah by a year so not sure how that would work. For me, I would go all out for Federico Chiesa. The guy is top class and offers all the things Salah offers apart from consistent goals BUT I think he can be that guy if he plays a lot closer to goal like Salah has since he came here. That was the main thing Klopp changed in Salah's game and he even said so in his first season when he clocked 44 goals. Chiesa would be my pick.

I've not seen anything of Chiesa other than international football so i can't really make a considered judgement on him, Oli. He looked good in the Euro's but seemed to drift in and out of the tougher games.

Insigne stood out for me, just as he always has when I've seen Napoli in the UCL. Although he is 30, i'd rather sign a ready made replacement if Salah or Mane leave because i think we have younger options for the wide areas in Jota and Elliott. My immediate concern if Salah or Mane left would be who comes in and hits double figures year in year out; something Insigne has done every season for 6 years straight. He scored scored 19 league goals last season which is his career best. He's actually getting better with age because he doesn't rely on pace or power. That's why i think he'd be a good mentor for Elliott who is also small, and lacks searing pace.

I'll back who ever Klopp picks though. Chiesa is a talented player for sure. Seems more likely that Mane and Salah will stay another season and we will sign someone like Traore to bolster the numbers and replace Origi/ Taki/ Shaq. I don't think Sarr makes sense with the AFCON being mid season again.

Why would we replace Salah with an overpriced 30 year old?

Insigne is good but not a good signing.

Oh yeah because nobody plays well past 30 nowadays. Not like Suarez, Ibrahimovic, Messi, Ronaldo and Lewandowski are smashing in 40 a season. No chance Kroos, Modric, Silva, Iniesta, Fernandinho were still elite in their 30's.

Come on mate. The age argument lost relevance a long time ago with modern sports science. 30-35 are a players prime years nowadays.
