As finances aren’t on our side, I’d rather we just spent any money we do have on Bissouma and utilise Taki and Ox as back up forwards. Taki has excellent movement and the loan at Southampton will have done a world of good, and the Ox has a cracking shot on him.

Assess the situation in January and see if any suitors are available, if not, wait until next summer to reinforce the forward line.

If we got Bissouma as our last signing of the summer I will be happy. But I hope we don’t have to rely on Taki and the OX up front. Taki couldn’t get into the Southampton team and OX sadly is only half the player he used to be pre injury.

{Ed0666's Note - I think the incomings will be bissouma and Bowen just guesswork on my part I have no insider knowledge.

My only concern is if Firmino doesn't up his game consistently this season then it will be tough. I don't think Taki and Ox can play his role.

{Ed0666's Note - I am of the opinion taki will be gone before the window closes

Settling for Taki and Ox as backups for our front line is just depressing. Taki is not good enough, when are we going to see things for what they are? It's as if people just believe everything blindly.
For the sake of his career, I hope Taki moves on and finds a club which can bring the best out of him and give him some stability. Coz that ain't happening at LFC for sure.
And Ox is a midfielder (an injury prone one btw), not a forward. We need to be looking to forward players that will replace the likes of Bobby and Mane in the next 12-24 months, not cheap in-house tricks that will fold like a pack of cards when things get tough like last season.
The priority has to be to bring in another young quality forward that can stake his place as a first team player for many years to come. A midfielder can wait for another season imo. I'd love to see what Elliot can do in midfield and if Curtis can improve further following his breakthrough season.

I’m with the OP, a midfielder is the most critical issue. Our starting midfield is great, but after that the options are poor. If we can’t get past the two games that Mane and Salah will miss because of AFCON then we don’t deserve to win the title. I’m pretty sure Jota, Firmino, Elliot, Minamino and Ox will be enough cover.

Cheap in house tricks. You mean like coaching?
Klopp likes versatile players, and situations like last season are why he likes them.
As much as we may want them, we can't buy players that aren't available or are out of our price reach.
As Klopp has said repeatedly, look to what you already have.

If we can’t survive TWO premier league games without Salah and Mane with what we have (incoming forward or not) then, that is a disgrace, IMO. I hope we get a forward and midfielder in BUT if we have to prioritise one position over the other then, it should be the midfield and hopefully, it is Bissouma. I do not rate Bowen as he is not good enuff for us. Just my opinion BUT if he comes in, he will have my full support.

As for Bowen, the lad far from a bad player but is below the levels we should be targeting, that’s for sure. The trouble is that he’s not a potential bargain 5-10m signing that could take Shaqiri’s place and go on to greatly exceed expectations, he would likely cost 40m and thus severely impact our ability to obtain other targets.
Our first-team targets should be at the level of Lautaro Martinez or Saul, not Jarod Bowen.

100% agree with Oli and Lowe.

Bissouma for midfield would be a great addition.

Bowen for me isn't of the quality we should be signing and would still cost a lot of money (I'd guess £32M) and I would prefer to wait and spend double if needed for someone like Raphinha. Use our own players instead of spending more than £30M on Bowen.

First of all taki was sent out on loan to lose his shyness and get game time both of which he did and I think people on here write off players too soon.
I don't see how bowen brings any more ability than taki. Taki would work for us in games we know they are going to have 10 men defending.

It's a tricky situation tho isn't it, we need to move two non home grown players on I believe.
If we want to sign anyone that isn't he grown.
That could be the reason Bowen is under consideration.

I thought Salah and Mane were going to be missing for around 4 weeks. Surely there will be more than 2 games in that 4 week period.

{Ed002's Note - Plus an FA Cup date or two.}

I would be very annoyed if we signed Bowen. He isn’t good enough and would come with an English premium price. Also, shouldn’t a forward who can play up front be the priority instead of a winger?

All 4 of them can play the central role. Salah gets moved there a lot.

JK23 they will miss Brentford, Crystal Palace, probably the Leicester game is 3 days later after they return and as Ed said maybe a couple FA cup games.

Ok take the money side out of it. Who is better Origi or Bowen?

I think it will be Bowen and a midfielder (not sure who ) but think Bowen offers more than origi.

Kloppers cheers mate. Just had a quick look now and it says it starts 9 Jan to the 6 Feb so could be 5 weeks if their countries do well. I’m guessing they will be meeting up a week or so Before though as well.

You can't take the money out of it. If you spend over £30M on Bowen then it means the club will have less money. Keep the money and buy a better player next summer.

Bowen not even signed and being condemned, you people should hang your heads in shame. If and remembering the if he signs he comes in as a squad member. Hope I don't tempt fate now but how often are Salah and Mane injured? Bowen or whoever comes in to rotate, play cup games etc. As an example, would Sancho want that role? jeez no. Yes we'd love to sign haaland and Mbappe but this ain't FIFA and it's a lot more complicated.

People are wetting themselves over klopp and Edwards work in the transfer market so let's trust that they know what they're doing and chill out instead of posting the same boring nonsense 100 times a day about stuff that is unimportant.

21.) 01 Aug 2021

In Istanbul - You know what else is boring? Sanctimony.
No one is ‘condemning’ Jarrod Bowen, and I certainly won’t be hanging my head in shame for giving a reasonable view that I feel a club of Liverpool’s level should be going targeting players above Jarrod Bowen’s level.

22.) 01 Aug 2021
01 Aug 2021 14:53:04
@In Istanbul, nobody has "condemned" Bowen. It's actually more so to say he is not levels above what we already have so why spend a load of money on him, what's wrong with using our own players, are you therefore "condemning" our own players 🤣

Basically, relax and read what is posted. Not every post is slating or abusing players. If somebody does not think a player is good enough for Liverpool that does not necessarily mean they have slated that player.

23.) 01 Aug 2021
01 Aug 2021 20:15:22
Istanbul, before you accuse others of what they actually did not do, maybe it would be better to actually read the posts properly as that would prevent you from harshly misjudging others in the future. Just a thought.

Regarding Bowen, so saying he is not good enuff is now condemning him? Again, read the posts properly. I maintain that he is NOT and nowhere near good enuff for the levels we play at right now. 6 years ago when we were scrapping for players and overpaying for them? Maybe. We are no longer at that level anymore and long may that continue.

As Lowel and Sean have said if it was a choice between overpaying for Bowen and giving Taki and Elliott their chances, I know what I would pick and it would not be signing Bowen. Save the money and then use it to go for the Raphinjas of the world or whoever else next season when either Salah or Mane walk.
