I think we’re going to see Konate get a run against Crystal Palace tomorrow.

It seemed a strange decision for Klopp to rest VVD against Milan, but thinking about it, he’s coming back from injury so three games in a week is probably a bit much. He probably didn’t want to change too much of the back line in one go so Matip kept his spot for consistency. He’s also in good form.

But the same applies to Matip, who it would be a risk to play three times in a week with his injury record. So I think we’ll see VVD paired with konate tomorrow.

Strength in depth. The rotation begins. Am excited to see what the new lad is like.

I agree, i expect him to start to.

Although Klopp had a habit of surprising us!

Wouldn't mind seeing Curtis Jones too but perhaps we'll revert to the normal midfield 3.

Stoneage, it is not strange at all. Klopp at the beginning of the season, had said that he would be resting VVD a lot more this season to keep him fresh unlike in the past where he felt had to play him almost every game in the CL and PL. This is why I wasn't surprised to see him rested. Klopp is doing what he said he would do. Glad it worked out vs Milan in the end.

As for Konate, I don't think it would surprise anyone if Konate started vs Palace cos he wasn't brought in here to play Cup games, IMO. He is a potential starter and frankly, the kid has to play at some point.

Depending on any niggles and recovery from the CL game I’d imagine Klopp will go as close to full strength as possible this weekend prior to rotating for the League Cup. Will be interesting to see who partners Vvd this weekend as it’s being said that Matip can’t play 3 games in a week so will that theory be proven wrong. My guess is the same team that played against Leeds with Hendo replacing Elliot and any of Gomez, Matip or Konate to partner vvd.

After all a few of our players have just had an international break including some of the ones who were actually called up (Hendo and Trent didn’t play loads of minutes etc) so we’re in a pretty good shape for fitness.

Although as Maximosa said Klopp likes springing a surprise so wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of shock selections. After all Minamino who can’t get a look in played a massive part in the 7-0 demolition of Palace last season.

It’s good that there’s a little bit of excitement ahead of a match day team naming and actually shows our squad isn’t all that bad. Gone are the days where we know the same 11 will be named week in week out.

Matip to be rested tomorrow with Gomez partnering VVD. Konate and Matip vs Norwich.

If Vvd doesn’t play Sat then surely he’s not going to play against Norwich which would mean 3 games rested. Which isn’t really a bad thing as it’s managing his game time especially with what we have in reserve. But I suppose we also have to manage Matip, Gomez and Konates game time also as they’ve all had injury issues.

My prediction is Vvd starts sat and is rested Tuesday. Gomez will play both and Konate will make his debut on Tue and Matip might drop out for 2 games.

Thats 3 in 6 days for Joe though JK23. Bit much is it not considering he had arguably the worst injury of all the CB's last season.

Oh mane mane Good point that mate. I was just guessing, so Klopps selection will likely be the total opposite. Perhaps Vvd and Konate sat then. Actually the more I think about it the more I realise who would I want beside a debuting centre half. That answer is Vvd.
