I mentioned about matip last week against Porto and against Brentford. I really do think he should be dropped his form is off and it’s only a matter of time beofre he gets an injury anyway! . He seems to be caught out so much and the “overload” of players is happening every bloody game now of the left hand side of oppositions attack and doing my head in. I’m constantly crapping a brick about it, three goals agaisnt brentford because of it one against Porto. I think it’s time for Gomez and his pace I don’t rmeber us being that open when he was in the team. Anyway fantastic review Ed and completely different to people talking about “unplayable foden” always appreciate your point of view and look forward to it every week! .

Thanks Ed, agree that both teams were poor first half, like 2 teams happy for a point. Salah without a doubt the best player in the world at the moment, he has a real fire in his belly this season. If he stays fit I believe we will be there or thereabouts come May.

Them long hopeful balls to mane were really frustrating. They weren't coming off but we still tried and tried again.

It seems strange to say about a centre half, but the main issue about dropping matip is that he is one of our more creative players and them forays into opposition half can cause havoc with teams sitting deep. Now for yet another boring international break. Hopefully see an article or 2 to keep us all occupied.

Morning eds1.
Thanks for the review mate.
Do you think VVD and matip should have swapped to give Milner more help?

{Ed001's Note - they would have just attacked the other side then. }

Excellent review Ed - agree that the right hand side is an issue for the team, not just the RB. The second goal at Brentford saw 3 on 1 against Trent and no one there to help out. I really like Matip but would like to see Gomez or Konate at CB.

I was surprised Gomez didn’t come on for Trent against Brentford, it’s a play Klopp used often in our title winning season and it was very effective to locking up a narrow win.

100% agree with everything you said Ed001, as per. I’m worried about the points dropped so far as they were all well within reach had Liverpool been playing even 10% better, just something close to their full potential. As it happens, i feel like most of our players are dropping 6’s and 7’s while Salah and Alisson have been at a 10 all season long, bailing us out every game. I think what the team needs is some very pointed changes and remind the boys that nobody is untouchable. Based on form, Firmino should come in for Jota, Tsimikas for Robertson and Konate/ Gomez for Matip. Your comments on all three are correct and the signs have been there for a while now. The press looks entirely absent when Firmino isn’t playing, Robbo’s crossing has been pants while Tsimikas creates a good chance with almost every ball he puts in, and Matip had been targeted tactically to great effect. I also think it’s on Klopp for not spotting these things earlier and the last 2 draws i can only lay at his door. The team needs to evolve, even if its just on a temporary basis. It will be up to those dropped to step their game up. We have the squad to do it, so let’s use it!

The reason every commentator mentions alis mistake so much and less of ederson is because every one knows ali is better than ederson. that's the reason mate!

- I was thinking I was crazy before reading this review because I thought I was the only one worried by Matip's performance. People seem to get their summary of the game wrong all of the time, like they don't wait long enough to let their thoughts settle. People may remember Matip getting his head to a few balls or making a couple of interceptions, but that long ball over the top was bypassing him and exposing us all of the time, he always seemed too slow to react to it. I wouldn't drop him yet, I'd give him one more game to sort himself out, or else give Konate a go.

- I think it's time to give Tsimikas another run, Robertson is too hot and cold at the moment, and he really needs to sort out his crossing and corner delivery because he is wasting good moments of opportunity with balls that just bobble along the ground. Tsimikas' delivery is bloody excellent, he has more guile in the final third and he's a tenacious defender. Robertson is still number one, don't get me wrong, but he is out of form and his deputy has a lot of strengths that are perfect for the team.

I don't entirely agree with Ed that City were poor in the first half. They definitely should have exploited our unsettled back four a lot better, a chance from a difficult angle for Foden and a diving header chance for KDB isn't enough return for the dominance they enjoyed. But the key is that City still had Liverpool on the ropes for most of that first half, they were holding on for dear life for half time to come. City may have been a bit sloppy but they must've done something right to make Liverpool retreat out of fear in the first place. Ed, I'd like to know what you think of that counterargument.

- I can't be convinced that City would have towelled us if they had a striker. Having essentially 5 attacking midfielders on the pitch in the way they did makes it easier for City to press, keep possession and create opportunities. The obvious drawback is that they have no focal point and therefore need to fashion really good opportunities to score. But if they have a striker on the pitch, they likely don't have as much control or dominance and therefore get they maybe get one good chance in a far more even battle.

- A bit unrelated but I still don't see the big hype in Chelsea, they seemed like they were running out of ideas until Ward-Prowse got sent to the showers. The hyperbole about Chelsea's depth is so ridiculous that some people are purring about the option of Loftus Cheek off the bench. Again, I don't see the massive hype in their forward depth. Apart from a UCL final goal for Havertz, I can't think of anything noteworthy that they've done. I think Liverpool and City are clearly ahead of Chelsea, Chelsea look like they still have some things to work out, whereas the other two clubs have won the biggest trophies and know what works for them.

{Ed001's Note - I get what you are saying, but that is the point, they didn't do any more and should have done.}

Imagine being so bloody good (VVD) that even teams like City look to just completely avoid you and always attack the other side. He is the human equivalent of the unmovable object.

Interesting thoughts on Matip, I think he had a brilliant start to the season but I think this has started to wane as well. Time to integrate Konate into the first team you think? Or go back to Gomez? It might at least give the opposition something different to think about because that right hand side is the go to for everyone now, especially when Matips had a stroll upfield.

Excellent Summary Ed1 great read. I said the other day Foden was crap and got slaughtered for it, Glad to see you identified that too. If he didn't play for Man City and wasnt English he would be no one, because he plays for City and is English though he's the next messi despite having nowhere near the skills messi has, or Gascoigne for that matter.

The so called pundits just show their little knowledge on football before they verbally masturbate over him week in week out despite being a weak link.

Did you see his attempt to stop salah for salahs goal - pathetic play ground stuff. Honestly id rather have jones any day as least he is going to be something special unlike Foden who will never make his so called potential due to his arrogance that he's already made it.

Great write up. Couldn’t believe how bad debruyne was but said to my kids in first half, watch him score though. Grealish was poor too along with most players which makes me think the pace and stresses of the game were too much for most of them. got to hand it to Silva, prob best player on the pitch. Don’t agree with your view of Matip’s passing, he makes me nervous when he has the ball and does one of his breaks into space and either usually shoots the ball to the side or overruns it. He’s too weak to win headers and too slow to turn. Why was he throwing himself into debruynes shot when Ali had it covered. Not a clue why Klopp rates him highly enough to start ahead of Gomez. He has his good games but we need a fit Gomez playing to win the league.

Thanks for the review Ed!

So glad someone agrees with me on Jota, my mates rave about him but I just don't see it. Yeah he's scored a few but his overall play really hinders our attack IMO. Struggles to play simple 4 yard passes at times and just doesn't seem on the same wavelength and mane or salah.

Do you think Konate should be given the nod over Matip after the internationals?

{Ed001's Note - I would go with Gomez personally.}

To be fair Ed, Ali hasn’t scored this season. Something which I find quite disappointing for a player of his standards.

Good review ed001. Time for Gomez to start ahead of Matip and Jota looks better coming off the bench for me
Up the pool.

Ed great review. Surely though you have got to give Ederson a bit more credit for that pass. That was far from easy. There wasn’t even that much space between Milner and Matip and it was played right in between them because of the pace in which he hit it. To get the weight of pass that perfect from that distance was quality. Something I’ve seen many people was lyrical about Trent when he does it.

Great review, Ed. With as many of our players having stinkers, we really had no chance of winning that game. And with City players like Grealish, Jesus, KDB as well as Foden at times, having stinkers all game long, they couldn’t take advantage and another day, they even get beat. Either way, we need to improve all across the board cos we aren’t going to win the title playing the way we are right now.

As for the media fawning all over Foden and Ederson, it’s just pitiful to watch now. Big Ali made no mistakes in the game and they always got on his back whereas, Ederson almost cost his team a goal flying out of the box into no man’s land yet not a peep out of the same media. Bias much?

As for Pep, the guy can be such a self entitled brat at times just cos he didn’t get his way. I mean just look at the way he was acting like the petulant crybaby on the touch line taking his jacket off like he was going to fight. Sit down, bro cos you’re embarrassing yourself. The guy’s head goes each time he comes to Anfield. If there was any doubt that LFC, Klopp and fans live rent free in this guy’s head, that has gone now.
