An £ 845m release clause for an 18 year old. The “game” is out of control.

Let’s get Billy signed up on a 10 year contract and then hope someone triggers his release clause in the summer eh? We could buy Harland and M’Bappe and Kessie and Bissouma and lots of others too.

Courtois wasn’t far wrong eh?

Come on WDW you know this is almost meaningless. It may as well say I have a £1 Billion release clause.
Well according to my Mrs I'm a treasure. :D.

Spanish teams add preventive buyout clauses all the time. Don't read too much into it. It's just to deter PSG, Man City and Newcastle.

Agree with you both - but to put it into context I am old enough to remember jimmy Hill and the players Union fighting for the £100 wage and Trevor Francis being the first £1m footballer - once you fo something like this it let's the genie out of the bottle.

{Ed0666's Note - you’ll probably be around to see the first 1 million pound a week salaried footballer (excluding bonuses, endorsements, etc etc)

Clubs in Spain are required to add release clauses into the players' contracts. Such an enormous number is just a way of saying 'not for sale'. After all, if it's not quite high enough, you might get another Neymar situation.

I think they're casting an eye to Newcastle and hoping they'd bite and wipe Barca's debt with one transfer.

Its a joke it really is I wish the fans around the world would unite in protest of this and demand a wage cap across all the top leagues!
