Hi all, with news that Sterling's contract is running out, that he isn't getting game time and that he would be open to another move, possibly overseas. Don't worry, this isn't an opportunity to bash the lad!

He left Liverpool in search of silverware and he certainly succeeded in that. What he may not of anticipated was the silverware we won. Let's face it, the team in 2015 wasn't our best.

So I thought it would be fun to compare trophy hauls and ask, would you rather have 3 Premier leagues, 1 FA cup and 4 league cups or 1 Premier league, 1 European cup, 1 Super cup and 1 world cup.

I'm of an age where domestic trophies were more important than they are today. My youngest would rather have the LFC haul, I am pretty much on the fence. What are your thoughts?

{Ed0666's Note - you mean club World Cup and not World Cup right potclay? I’d probably go for the Liverpool haul as it includes the CL and I’m sure he wants that to put the cherry on the cake for his career.

Yeah, Obvs! Club world cup. I agree, if City had the champions league, it would be no contest.

Taking Sterling out of it, I'm taking our haul as it comes as a result of our journey.

You could make an argument that Sterling may have helped in winning the UCL final, Europa League final, the League Cup final or given us that extra point to win the league, then that would be an impressive haul of league medals had he stayed. You could also argue we would have won nothing with him as well. Its all fine margins.

But you can't argue he simply jumped at the chance to chase the ££££ like many others did and still do!

Whenever anyone mentions Sterling I immediately think of the unprovoked attack on our very own meek and unassuming Joe Gomez.
That marks him out as a complete tosser for me. I'm glad we won the big stuff while he had to sit and watch. You just know he must have been thinking "what if".
Tough titties.

Absolutely Flash. Add to that the utter contempt he showed for the Hillsborough victims and Sean Cox by leading his team mates in singing a song mocking them. The man is vile and should never be welcomed back as long as he lives. He deserves nothing but contempt from us. Unforgivable stuff.

Can’t beat the slating of a previous player to start a good day off 😜.

Whether you like Sterling or not, for me he had a decent spell for us and we willingly sold him for 50 mill. I might be wrong but I can’t remember him going on strike or forcing his way out and we happily accepted 50 mill for him which isn’t exactly pocket change.

He says he went to win trophies but fans accuse him of going for Money. I don’t think in any line of work people happily move jobs for pay cuts and it certainly doesn’t happen a lot in football especially when there’s a big transfer fee. When all our players negotiate new contracts I doubt it’s for less money so maybe the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

He’s won plenty of medals away from us but hasn’t won the CL. As a Liverpool fan it’s easy to say our success has been better but I’d imagine Sterling is happy with how the move worked out even though it looks like his time at City is coming to an end.

If Sterling had stayed then perhaps the purchase of Mane and Salah wouldn’t have happened. For me both of them have been integral to us winning out silverware so all in all I think the move worked for everyone.

JK23 he left at a time when city was still investing heavily (not that, that has stopped) and yes a pay rise would be expected but he more than double his earnings to go to a team that was no better than the one he was with. They had the financial clout to push on they still finished 4th and we spanked them 1-4 on their own patch and 3-0 at Anfield!

So trying to pass it off as purely bashing the player is nonsense, call he left because he was getting a lot more cash to do so in a team that wasn't all that great at that point in time other than there cash balance!

Im not even drawing into the songs and gomez issues.

What unprovoked attack on Gomez is that?

Fair one mate. Let’s hope if Salah ever leaves it’s for less money than what he’s on now.

I think of him as a bit petulant and immature but ultimately a great pro and a decent role model. City have a cultural problem in their dressing room which may have led to the chants, and his petulance probably caused the Gomez incident (not really sure what exactly happened) . But Sterling has had troubled upbringing and by all means he has risen beyond it and represents himself very well on and off the pitch. Before Rashford he was the leader in the media on discrimination issues. There are a million teenagers out there who can learn a great deal from Sterling. He doesn't compete with Salah or Mane on the pitch, but as a British role model for the youth he is a very good influence.

JK23 I quite clearly remember him forcing his way out. He did it publicly which he later acknowledged was wrong, but he and his agent were in the press daily trying to force a move through to City.
Why else would he have been regularly given a hostile reception on his return to Anfield where the fans are known for saluting former players?
The fact that he's still only 26 and is no longer a starter for City suggests he's not all that either, and it is well known that he has a fractious relationship with Guardiola.
Sound familiar?

Flash as I said I could be wrong but i didn’t remember him pushing his way out. For me though mate the rest still stands. Sterling is old news and I’m more concerned with our own current crop that we have today.

I’m still extremely upset about Rushie joining Juve in 86 for £200 a week more, but my councillor has said I’m almost over it. Once I am sterling will be getting my full hate 😜. That’s a joke by the way gents before anyone loses their s##t.

Mocking the Hillsborough disaster and Sean Cox being beaten to a pulp are beyond the pale. He deserves nothing but abuse when he plays against us no matter who he plays for and I for one never want to see that vile man wear a Liverpool shirt ever again under any circumstances, that water will never pass under the bridge. Some things are unforgivable and irredeemable. Before bigging up Sterling or comparing him to an actually decent human being like Marcus Rashford, just think what a slap in the face that is to the families of the victims of Hillsborough and Sean Cox.

The better man eh VVVV?

Rhetorical question time. How many people on the board would say no if somebody approached then with an offer of a new job doing exactly what they do now with a hundred percent. (Or more) pay rise and an increased chance to achieve your personal goals? Just asking.

OMM I believe it was November 2019 while both Sterling and Gomez were in the England squad. Sterling atacked Gomez with zero provocation, leaving visible scratchmarks. Southgate immediately went to send Sterling home, but Gomez intervened and begged him not to.
It's not something that was covered up, it was major news for a couple of days.
I believe that incident and the way he and his agent Aidy Ward went about using the press to get him a move to City ensured that Sterling won't be returning to Liverpool.
It's very very rare that you'll ever hear me say anything derisory about any player (Liverpool or not), but to me Sterling is a rat.

That was after they squared up to each other at Anfield the day before. No problem with that for me, better to clear the air and sometimes that means getting physical with each other. Bigger problem back then is the mole who told the press.
