I want to rant about the refs treatment of Mane. at what point do we ask the question as to why Mane is so unfairly treated by refs in Champs league? Sometimes it's just that obvious.

And then I want to applaud the ref for sending off Felipe. The pure arrogance of these players is disgusting. for lack of a better word. He'll think twice before ignoring a ref again will Felipe.

Absolutely hate them, horrible team of cheats. Wouldn't surprise me if they try and cause a few injuries to our lads second half.

Scummy team athletico!
Even more satisfying what’s happened over the 2 games!
I need to question That ref he’s had a shocker!

{Ed025's Note - especially with the sending off jay, what a pathetic decision. spoilt the game really mate..

Both different teams reflective of the respective managers imo.
Well done Liverpool again anyway, played smart mostly and did enough.

Athletico will try and poke Mane into getting himself sent off.

Klopp should sub him. He's done his work for tonight and Taku could use the minutes.

I had no problem with the red. I was surprised by it, but had no problem. There was no chance to win the ball and the player simply kicked his opponent. It was deserved.

Agree 25 mate! Ref was a joke I’m delighted we won but I like to watch a good game too sadly he ruined that!

{Ed025's Note - he really did jay, it was pathetic mate..

Ed025, if the ref gave two yellows then I don’t think anyone would complain. I think if more refs acted like that, antics like that would stop. He’s in charge, and players should listen.
It’s not his fault for spoiling the game, it’s felipes.

{Ed025's Note - its the refs fault firmane, you cant give a straight red for a petulant trip mate thats just silly

I don’t get that sending off at all ed025, I know they have said it was because of the foul but it was never a red in my eyes, can’t they just say because the ref wanted his backside kissed lol.

{Ed025's Note - if thats a sending off mikey then thats the end of football mate..

Ed25 he had to walk. What you been smoking?

{Ed025's Note - had to walk for a little trip MR?, the other week milner tombstoned silva and never even got a card...perspective mate, i dont know about smoking anything but i think you must be injecting my friend..

Ed, I see it as two yellow given wrongly with a straight red. I believe that he was going to show up a yellow card and tried to call Felipe so he can show the card and maybe talk to him. Felipe kept ironicly nodding with his head and never went to the ref and was given the straight red instead of a second yellow. I see it as the correct decision given the foul and Felipe attitude, but I don't believe it was a straight red which confused anybody.

{Ed025's Note - it was just stupid marto, two yellows with one being for dissent then i have no complaints at all mate, but he gave a straight red which was way over the top for such a silly foul...the games gone nuts..

It was a yellow for the foul and yellow for dissent. The ref got emotive and showed a straight red and UEFA are sending it out the party line that it is a straight red for the foul, to cover the ref’s error.
It is extremely rare to see dissent punished with a second yellow resulting in a sending off but that does not mean it should not happen.
Or should we allow players like Mané to get hacked from the kick-off to half-time and continue to allow players to treat the refs disrespectfully. There has to be a stand and a sea change. Players think they are invincible, they are not.

{Ed001's Note - he stamped on Mane's ankle, then tripped him afterwards. The original camera angle did not show it because they were head on and you could not see the first contact. The ref was on the other side and could have seen it and so given it for that.

The player should have already been carrying a booking before that challenge anyway, hard to have any sympathy for them when they cheated constantly and somehow De Paul got away with numerous dives and bookable offences throughout the game. Atleti are a bunch of cheats and that is always going to make refs assume contact is deliberate, even if it is accidental. It is difficult to give the benefit of the doubt to a team that have shown they intentionally set out to kick opposition into submission and have no intention of abiding by the rules. So when there is a possibly harsh sending off, how can anyone have sympathy for them when they get away with so many things that should be punished?}

No sympathy whatsoever ed, totally agree. So happy we took since points off them. Perfect scenario from this is us finishing top and Atleti not qualifying.

I couldn’t have said it any better myself eds1. Just a horrible team to play and how nice does it feel to have beaten them home and away. 😁😁.

Agreed es25, stupid and even worse is that Uefa defends him it seems. Is Felipe now off for 3 games? Ridiculous.

The booking was a straight red. It was a dangerous and disgusting foul. That Mane didn't roll about like an actor trying for an oscar differentiates it from what AM players were doing and also made it seem less than how bad a foul it actually was.

Felipe got what he deserved and he should have even been booked even before that. On the foul on Mane, Ed01 is correct. There is a replay angle where Felipe rakes his studs on Mane's calf/ archilles heel with one leg and trips him with the other. That could have been a red on it's own as that is dangerous play/ wreckless attack from behind with no intent to get the ball and taking away of a potential goalscoring chance, IMO.

To compound that IMO, Felipe embarrasses the ref by outright disrespecting him when he calls him over THREE times. What is the ref supposed to do there? Taking the pee on a ref should not be tolerated at any level and if the game is ruined for cos the laws are be applied correctly then, so be it.

Felipe essentially showed what footballers actually think about the refs. the way players carry on sometimes is pure embarrassing.

We always say we could learn a few things from rugby. so again. I'll ask. what would have happened in rugby if a ref was disrespected like that?

We can blame the refs all day long. but the players are part of the problem as well.
