Was thinking about the squad and in particular Divock Origi. Origi seems to really split opinion and I understand why, he has everything top forward needs, quick, big, strong, good feet good finisher it just doesn't seem to come together for him.

I was having a conversation with my brother and we were in agreement that one of his greatest strengths is also a weakness. He is so laid back, whilst this means when he gets a chance he doesn't flap or bottle it, allowing him to excel in the big games. it means he often lacks urgency. He's guilty of not committing to the press or busting a gut to get on the end of a chance. This isn't due to a lack of professionalism or love for the club imo, its just his personality. Perhaps why he's often better off the bench when the team needs a goal.

Ed1/ fellow posters what's your thoughts on him? Would you let him go or keep him around the squad? Whatever happens he will be fondly remembered and will have a role to play this season.

{Ed001's Note - if he is happy to stay and play a bit part role, I think you have to keep him, unless we need the money.}

I think Ed001 has said numerous times, for a guy his soze, he doesn't throw it about very well. He's probably too nice!

{Ed001's Note - it is a shame, he has all the talent in the world but needs to be more aggressive with it.}

100% sell him, tell me another top 12 team he starts regularly for at best and then tell me a top 4 team he’ll get into.

Hard to sell him if nobody wants him though or as has been stated by Ed002 that we over price him. Also he seems well settled in the area, does a lot of charity work around Liverpool along with his scholarship programme at the University.

I'd want him to stay personally but it all goes on what he wants. Couldn't blame the lad if he wanted out.

I’m fully in camp sell origi but I don’t think we live in the world where we can. So we sell him and get £15m then we have to replace them for what £30/ 40m? So there’s £15m of a budget we don’t have going on a backup striker who might play carabo cup games and during an injury crisis. So that’s £15m plus less that we get to spend on a midfielder that we actually need. Also div isn’t causing any problems not playing and maybe the new guy would.

{Ed002's Note - He is a Free Agent in the summer and able to talk with non-English and Welsh clubs from January.}

Pretty sure Origi is contracted until 2024 Ed002. Didn't he sign a 5 year deal after the UCL win in 2019?

{Ed002's Note - Two years of that is an option.}

He’s too soft all that size and doesn’t use it! As I said the other day Atalanta’s duvan throwing players around and being a bully! sadly Origi is just to nice and soft he hasn’t got it In his locker should of been sold after the CL league when his stock was high!
Again nottin against the lad I like him but we can’t be keeping lads just because they are nice and sound! Just my opinion!

Origi os going to have his best chance in years to lay his marker in January when the Afcon is on and the same applies for Mino.

Origi has given us some great moments in the past including his 2 goals against Barca. This season I seen an article saying he should be starting as he had 3 goals and 2 assists in 7 games. But most of those have come in the league cup against poorer opposition.

I thought he took his goal fantastically last weekend and it could be used as a moment to kick start his league season.

Amazingly his goal last weekend against West Ham marks his first goal off the bench in 43 games and his first since the Champions League final winning goal back in June 2019.

So as good an option as people say he is off the bench 1 goal in 43 needs to be massively improved on if the club are looking to keep him on around 100k a week.

We should keep him. He does well when he comes on and he can be a handful when he’s in the penalty box. He reminds me of John Toshack, looking like he might fall over at any moment but somehow keeping hold of the ball. And like Tosh, he knows where the goal is. No need at all to sell him.

I wouldn’t sell him just to buy someone to replace him who will only warm the bench and have limited minutes.
But if we had a young striker coming through who could easily take his place in the squad then yeah he would have to go.

JK23, 43 off the bench, but most of them have been for 10.mins or less, or when the game is already won and not looking for goals.

Just to clarify Ed002. This 2 year option? This is something the club can take up? I also assume that they aren't keen on taking up the 2 year option, given as you say he can talk to non English clubs in a few months time? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, the club has an option. They need to decide now and talk with the player.}

Waitisover. 100% get that mate. But what does that tell us about Klopps thoughts on him. I might not be in a position to comment on whether a player is good enough for us. But Klopp is.

Unless Origi wants to go then he'll be staying.
As someone has already mentioned, eventually his place will probably be taken by an up and coming youngster when they're ready.
Origi loves the club, Klopp loves Origi. It's only fans with transfer fever that want to see him moved on so another face can come in to spend time on the bench.

So is the likelihood Origi will leave on a Bosman in the summer?

{Ed002's Note - It is up to the club.}

I hope he doesn’t leave as some of the Karen’s will fall of their high horses in shock.

Spot on, Flash. Origi loves the club, the fans and is settled in the city. He has accepted his role on the team and Klopp is clearly not going to run him out of the club and neither are the club cos they keep pricing him out of potential moves. Origi won’t leave just cos people repeatedly whine about it.

Hence, if his detractors have beef with Origi, you are barking up the wrong tree. I propose you aim your ire elsewhere as none of us can make the club nor the player do anything they don’t want to do. For me, Origi stays or goes, I’m not bothered. Not in the least bit.
