Ed001 I’d interested to hear your thoughts on how the 5 youngsters got on against Shrewsbury yesterday.

{Ed001's Note - they did ok, but none of them really impressed. Personally I would prefer that as it stops them thinking it is too easy to step up. You want them to realise early that they still have to work hard to make it.}

Honestly the only one that looks like he could come in and support the first team, sparingly, right now, is Tyler Morton. Obviously, there are areas of his game that will need to be improved, particularly off the ball. But, for the most part, I have liked what I have seen so far. He did look a step above the other youth players.

The other youth players still need more time to develop, physically, technically, etc. Players develop at different rates and the staff have to adapt to this. Fingers crossed one or two will make the grade.

I agree, being at the game it was frustrating (albeit understandable) to choose the backwards option as opposed to driving forward or whipping in a cross.

Gordon is a great finisher. His all round game needs work but then the same could be said of Origi who's about 9 years older 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Think Kaide Gordon's got that extra bit of magic about him. The rest looked pretty much ok at best.

{Ed025's Note - kaide is not the best gordon on merseyside though IB.. :)

If you score then you’ve done alright. Because football is a confidence game, so next time Gordon pulls on the shirt he’ll be thinking I can Bag here.

Gordon was good but maybe didn’t get on the ball enough. Morton was alright but i don’t see anything i didn’t see in chirivella. We don’t bring though like any good players the last 20 years unless we sign them like Sterling/ Elliott which is why i have hope for the likes of Gordon and Bobby Clark. Makes it more incredible that we managed to produce someone who’ll go down as one of the greatest full backs of all time. Might be unpopular but i don’t see much with Jones. Slow takes too long on the ball offers nothing defensively. Quick feet but that’s it. Look at his competition for England. Foden, Bellingham, Smith Rowe, Gallagher, even Ramsey at Villa i think looks better. Elliott with us. Decent player but i think he’s too big of a drop from the from first team level to be a squad player at a title winning squad.

{Ed001's Note - clueless, have you forgotten about the best right-back in the world? And Jones was looking our best player after getting a run this season until he picked up the eye injury. You are far too busy denigrating to actually notice any of their qualities. To suggest Jones offers nothing defensively is nonsense and shows you have no idea what you are talking about. He was breaking up play repeatedly but you would have been busy slagging him off rather than actually seeing it I guess. And Morton is nothing like Chirivella. That is idiotic. They don't even play the same role in the team, except when Morton has been shoehorned in to cover injuries.}

Ed01, haven't you heard? Jones ain't worth nothing anymore since Harvey Elliot came along earlier in the season to the point that some on here (I could mention names BUT I won't) were ready to drive him to Villa when they were interested in him cos they saw a shiny new toy in Elliott. Comparing him to other youngsters at other teams is just lazy and weak cos they have diff. qualities, play in diff. systems/ positions and for different managers BUT whatever you can do to slander your own is fair game, I guess.

Now it seems the slander is still there despite the fact that the kid had an eye injury hence, couldn't play till now. I saw the game vs Shewsbury and he was very good for a guy who hadn't played in weeks BUT like you said, not sure his detractors even watch him anymore cos well, he can't do anything right so why bother watching him?

They also forget that Jones literally ran a CL game away from home at Porto with brilliant assists and creative play where he was involved in near all the goals we scored. I guess that doesn't count anymore. Even last season, he was one of our shining lights in a struggling team and was great in the CL as well esp. vs Ajax at Anfield. Again, who cares about any of that?

Jones is criminally underrated and Trent is quite literally the best right back in the world. Our current crop of academy players is the best we’ve had in about 25 years. Elliott was brought in at a very young age but correct me if i’m wrong when i say Beckham was originally at West Hams academy before moving to United? He’s top class and any team in the world would love to have him. Kelleher is an excellent young backup goalie and i honestly think Williams is starting to show people his value as he slowly rebuilds his confidence; he came into the team at the worst possible time. Morton is too early and underdeveloped to judge fully but he’s certainly way better on the ball than your average teenager. Gordon looks like he could break into the first team properly as a squad player very soon, he looks incredibly composed and confident on the ball for his age. I’d even like to remind you that Gomez is still one of the best centre backs in the world for his age and i really hope he gets a run in the team again soon and isn’t sold, he was also brought in as a teenager.

I honestly don’t know what more you could ask for with regards to young academy prospects. I feel as though people think that players like Messi and Rooney performing as they did at that age should be the norm, rather than the exception. If you take a second to step back and look at the big picture rather than constantly moaning you’ll realise all of these lads have buckets of talent and we’re very lucky to have them.

I said we produced Trent. But who else in 20 years? I think Jones is a good player but that’s it. I think he’d actually be better in a different team where he’d be let create more that didn’t play their full backs so high and he didn’t have to cover them. He’s been poor defensively. City, Brighton, Brentford etc he was constantly half arsed jogging back when they’d break. Jones is in the bottom 7% for tackles in the top 5 leagues. Thiago top 3%. Fabinho top 18% Keita top 17%. Milner top 15%. Even Ox is only bottom 45%. Henderson who’s been awful going back bottom 5% Interceptions only Keita is lower than Jones. Blocks only Henderson lower. Good player going forward, still young i’m just not blown away be delighted to be proved wrong starting with Arsenal. He does to be fair need a run with Fabinho and Thiago. Fabinho for me is a top 5 dm in the world and Thiago when fully fit is world class. The drop of from those 2 to all our other midfielders is to big.

It's not great in the last 20 years but also not that bad.

Coady - Wolves captain

Gulacsi - No.1 and RBL

Suso - good little career in Italy

Trent - best right back in the world

Sterling - 100 prem goals

Kelleher - our 2nd choice keeper

Jones - already a Premier League level player

Plus about 40 players in various 2nd tiers.

Zagreb, I literally have no idea what you are talking about or what all these % figures you are putting out mean. The fact of the matter remains that our academy may not be the best BUT any academy that can produce the type of player TAA has become, is doing something right cos NO other academy product at any club is currently rated anywhere as high as Trent is on the world stage. Not Rashford. Not Martial. Not Sterling. Not Foden. Not Saka and I can keep going.

Also, what I find annoying is you comparing Jones to other youth players at other clubs as if that is some kind of useful barometer to judge our youth like Jones whereas you know these players play on other teams with other qualities and under diff. systems. "Jones would do better in another team". Why would that be whereas he is doing very well for the most part in our team right now where one of the top managers on the planet rates him? I disagree with that, bro.

Smith Rowe and Saka are playing in an Arsenal team where they simply CANNOT fail and can get away with underperforming like Saka has been (per Arsenal fans) . Jones plays in literally one of the top 5 best teams on the planet and clearly cannot get away with a bad half hour. There's levels to this, man.

Pls, we have youngsters who Klopp thinks are good enuff to contribute like Jones, Kelleher, Williams, Beck, Morton and Gordon and are currently doing so. So wht's your beef? Seriously, Is it too much to ask that we all support these kids instead of turning on them at every chance we get just cos they are not doing what we want fast enuff? Sheesh!

Oh no Ed, not another forward comparison, Jeffers, cadamartri to name a couple, doesn't go well for the blue side pal, add in the laughable Digne is as good as Robertson due to 4 decent games lol.

{Ed025's Note - im just saying that at the moment anthony is the best gordon on merseyside lancaster...now there is no argument there mate, but mind you you do like to laud up your players to the hilt, was it bruno cheyrou who was the next zidane? people who live in glass houses and all that.. :)
