For me the biggest difference between Salah wanting out and all of the big players who did so before (Torres, Suarez, etc) is that we've now been very, very competitive and challenging for major honors season after season - we never did that before. The way Suarez behaved was disgraceful, but I couldn't actually blame him for wanting to leave. Salah's only reason is greed and, as a player who already earns extortionate amounts, that doesn't sit well with me.

{Ed0666's Note - you don’t think Salah is worth what Ronaldo is getting paid? Grealish is on 300k a week Salah is at least three to es the player he is. Yes these are extortionate amounts to you and me but at their level this is normal figures. Salah knows PSG will pay him what he wants and he knows he will be surrounded by world class talent so a couple of hundred thousand pounds more a week at PSG doesent seem like a bad swap.

Salah has billionaire employers who have more money than he’ll ever make. Perhaps him wanting lots and lots of money is not just greed but wanting a piece of his employers pie so he can set up his whole family for life including as far down to his great great grandkids. Or perhaps he might give a load of it to charities and people in need once his playing career is up. Or he might just be extremely greedy and wants all the money for himself despite knowing he could never spend it. There’s lots of moving parts in everyone’s circumstances that only they know.

Salah is extremely greedy and doesn’t love the club but no one would bat an eyelid if Henry sold the club for 3 billion and banked it.

For me footballers are massively overpaid but so are lots and lots of other professions around the world whilst many others are massively underpaid.

It’s surprising how much of a fuss we are kicking up over a player wanting 500k but someone wanting 200k a week we don’t bag an eyelid too as it’s the norm.

I’m not going to lie I’d leave my job and boss In the Lerch for a 5k a year pay rise 🤣.

I remember even Fowler (a scouser and hero of the fans) holding out for what he thought he was worth when he didn't find the clubs offer of a new contract acceptable. Why don't we hold of off the greedy comments until we see how all this plays out.

I don’t think ronaldo or grealish is worth what ronaldo or grealish are getting paid.
Totally silly money now.
If Salah thinks he can earn more elsewhere then good luck to him, I thought he was more about the trophies but never mind.

Ed66 mate what abt VVD? What abt Allison? Don't you think they too deserve? What abt Klopp? Don't you think he deserves to be paid like pep? Then let's start giving everybody what's they're worth instead of just one player?

Salah is our best player but he's not worth destabilising the dressing room for. Look at the messes Barcelona, PSG, Man United or Juventus have ended up in by putting players on stupid wages. Some of them still haven't bounced back.

What are Man City’s squads thoughts on Kdb’s pay?

They’ve not done too bad trophy wise with different pay levels.

{Ed0666's Note - do you know how much Sterling, Stones, Grealish, KDB, Ederson, Walker, Et al get paid? There’s not much difference. Liverpool can’t afford to pay one guy head and shoulders above the rest. If Salah gets say 500k a week you think Virgil, Becker etc will take that lying down I wouldn’t. If Salah has to be sold because of his excessive wage demands then so be it you cannot hold the club to ransom and I feel the fans are coming to terms with this now and the longer he doesent sign the less sympathetic the fans will become. He’s in an extremely tough spot does he go for the contract if his life somewhere else or stay at Liverpool and become one of the Mount Rushmore soccer players of this fantabulous and legendary soccer club.

If he goes for the cash I think he is making a huge mistake and will regret his decision later down the line, plus he would damage his legacy at Liverpool fc.

That's why I believe unfortunately he won't sign. If it wasn't about money I believe he would have signed by now. Now Mo Salah has already written himself into the annals of Liverpool history and there is plenty more to be written but if he does go then he goes. I also believe that Liverpool won't let us down in the transfer market if he does go and why should they they haven't done it before YNWA.

The club, and FSG, have moved heaven and earth to keep the finances on an even keel during the past two very difficult seasons.
There’s absolutely no way they’ll blow that wide open for any player, even Salah.
The model may be criticised in some quarters but it’s worked and, more importantly, is sustainable.

Why would Liverpool football club care what another player at another club is getting paid? The club will offer him what they think he is worth, if Salah doesn't want to accept that then it is what it is. If Salah wants to go to PSG, collapse in the Champions League every season and get booed by his own supporters then fair play to him.

Personally, if I was a professional football player, I would like to look back on my career and the titles and trophies I had won. Salah's family is financially secure already for generations to come, so for me the whole situation seems odd.

Someone mentioned about Suarez and Torres etc leaving but I think that was different. We weren't really challenging, certainly not on a European level, whereas now, LFC are probably top 3 in the world, challenging for titles domestically and internationally. If Salah leaves, he will be restricting his chances of winning major trophies unless he joins City or Bayern.

The fact that he could actually leave for free and join either city or Bayern stuie.

Rhetorical question : we all work for a company that pays well, is a great place to work, has great a benefits package and would like to give you a new 5 years contract a a pay rise of 30%.

At the same time another company - one of your current companies biggest competitors - comes along and says we will give you a pay rise of 175% for a five year contract, an improved benefits package and a bonus for signing our contract. You can live in a beautiful city and can work in a great environment.

Which one would you take?

It seems a lot of people are rationalising their wish for Mo to stay by saying he will ‘win things’ when it’s actually a case of ‘could win things’.

I’d love him to stay but as has been said, it increasingly looks like it is primarily about the money for him, which is fair enough. It doesn’t make him a bad person, or greedy or a traitor just a person looking after his own interests and the future welfare of his family and dependants.

City and Bayern won’t be in for him. He’s almost 30. It footballing days are numbered 🙄.

14 Mar 2022 19:25:06
I think people are missing my point, I didn't say bayern and City are in for him, only they are the only other teams currently at LFC's level in my opinion, so moving somewhere like Madrid, Barcelona or PSG would be a step down in terms of footballing pedigree.

Might be a question for Ed001 as he's been exposed to a lot of guys within football but is there much that you can afford with say, 400k a week vs. 250k a week? Does it have a genuine impact on quality of life or is it more of a case of "I know I can earn more elsewhere, therefore I want to"?

To a mere mortal like me, rich is rich and after that it should be more about where your friends are, where you enjoy your football most, where you'll earn the most accolades both personal and club level. Is that naive?

{Ed001's Note - it is more about the way they see themselves. Being paid more means they are more valued to the club and so they feel better about themselves. It is more important to an agent, who gets a percentage of it, so it can make a genuine difference to them. For someone like Salah or Mane, the difference could also come down to how much they have available to help others, in the same way Oezil does. He gives away something like 65% of his salary.}

@arous: My choice as well! he would reach the next level playing under Klopp.

14 Mar 2022 22:02:52
Thanks Ed001. I'm not sure whether this has been done, or would even be possible but my question with regards to your last point is could you incentivise via some sort of charity scheme? For example, could the club commit to giving 100k extra a week to charities of the players choice? That way the end result for that individual player is the same but it doesn't break the wage structure?

This is purely theoretical at this point, I'm under no illusions that this would happen.

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea to be honest.}

If Sakai wanted to sign, he would have already and his what’shisface of sn agent wouldn’t be running his mouth on SM like he is doing. I don’t think he will and NO, we will NOT be paying Salah “whatever he wants” so that is a nonstarter. If he leaves? He goes and we move on.

23.) 15 Mar 2022

@WDW this comparison is a little ridiculous. If I was already on 200k a week, then I wouldn’t need to worry about money and other factors would come into play (do my values align with the company, am I respected/ treated well, etc) . Football is not the same as a standard job so the same considerations simply do not apply. The difference between say 30k a year and 60k a year (note a year not a week! ) is massive. The difference at the levels of pay footballers are at not so much.

The dynamics of playing football are also very different, and there are relationships and rapports between fans and players that develop, and that we hope leads to a mutual respect as well as loyalty (a crazy thing to expect I know) . If Salah leaves so be it, I do not think the club can, nor should it, break its own salary structure for the demands of one person. Is Salah as good/ valuable as Ronaldo or other extortionately paid players? Sure, his value as a player is not in question. But even those players are paid far beyond what they should be. Salah and his agent can spin it as “being paid what we deserve” or something like this, but ultimately it is just greed. We’ve got a lot of money, but we want even more money. I can’t respect that.
