With the title race really on now, but by no means any certainty that we'll win it, I was reflecting on the last four seasons and how, if City beat us to it this year, they will have won three out of the last four, and we'll have won only one league title in that time.

To me, it feels like we've been closer than three titles to one suggests, so I checked the total points for Liverpool and City from the start of the 2018/ 19 season right up to now, including last nights match. Would you believe that IF we win tomorrow night, there is only one point difference between us and City in that period (City 335 points. Liverpool 331 points which will go to 334 if we win tomorrow) . That's incredible that we've been so evenly matched during that period, and remember that this is a City team and manager that people talk about in discussions about the best ever. Remember also that this period includes that once in a lifetime run of poor form we had in the middle of last season in an unprecedented combination of circumstances that went against us.

We should be so pleased and so proud of this manager and team. If Klopp does leave in 2024 I just hope that he can add at least one more league title and a couple of other trophies before then. As the years go by, managers and teams tend to get remembered and measured on trophies won - it simply wouldn't do justice to Klopp and this team if the nine year period ends with only one league title.

RR, brilliant post. I will also add that it took literally 2 and half years (mid-2015/ 16 till end of 17/ 18) for Klopp to build a team that was ready to challenge whereas City had been ploughing 100's of miillions into that squad for a full decade before Pep came and even in his first summer, he dumped about 200m into it (192m or so) into it.

The fact that we are here (with the nos. you posted to back it up) shows the incredible job this manager, players and FSG (like it or not) have done in competing both both domestically and internationally, is something to behold and cherish. And to crown it all, Klopp did not just win any kind of trophies. He won Ol' Big Ears and broke our 30 yr drought for a league title with other trophies to boot.

Now I understand why you say 1 league title will not do it justice BUT context is needed here. There was NO way we could have won a league title in his first 2 and a half seasons, clearly. We were unlucky to get pipped by one point and we all know the rest regarding last season. For me, we've been a bit unlucky and it is what it is BUT I hope he wins one more PL and/ or CL BUT he his that City tea to deal with, something NO other manager before him had to deal with.

If we continue winning big trophies can't see Klopp leaving, even this season if we win CL and EPL I know it's big if then we've got a good chance of MO staying.

Major honours are everything for elite players/ managers this is what motivates them and if we can win them instead of just being close them I'm Sure Klopp is going to stick around few more seasons.

Kopforever, Klopp leaving if we win CL and/ or PL this season? I'll believe it when I see it.

It was meant for Salah this season if we win EPL and CL he might stay and for Klopp if we continue winning major honours instead of just coming close then I doubt he will leave when he's contract is over, think he will stick around for few more seasons.

Best thing is it's in our own hands but it's going to be wicked tough. On paper theirs is the easier fixture list but it doesn't always work out like you think it will. One game at a time. Arsenal is huge. And no need to look beyond that one. They are all finals now.

He shall leave and this has no relevance to trophies or transfers.

I sincerely hope so for you, Harry cos we all know he has been a real pain for the manager of the club you actually support. I mean, the guy literally admitted it a few weeks ago.

Very interesting post RR.
Saying that, it’s happened the other way around with us.
Bobby Robson’s Ipswich Town in the late 70s to mid-80s had excellent teams, should have won the league at least a couple of times and didn’t even get one.
It’s all relative isn’t it?

{Ed0666's Note - Arnold Muhren, and the other Dutch guy whose surname begins with T whose name escapes me were a proper dangerous team you’re right mate. Jeez you’re making me feel old now Juicer!!!!!!’

"No relevance to trophies or transfers"? Talk is cheap. And nobody demonstrates it better.

Not that it's news to any of the regular readers on here, but it once again shows the masterful job FSG, Klopp and the management of the club have done. To be neck and neck with the highest spenders of the league while being one of the lowest, over the past 6 plus years, is still something to be considered and admired. Money is not everything but it still plays a vital role on who you put out there on the field every week. Of course, the most credit must go to the players, because it is they who execute everything at the end of the day. Everyone else is just talking.

That was some team they had, they played excellent football too.

FSG only bridged the gap to the big spenders after Klopp arrived. They’re business model has never changed but the man at the helm did. By no means a dig at FSG but the highest of praise for Klopp. The guy is the glue that has stuck the club together over the last few seasons.
