In amongst all the talk of new signings and players leaving, who from the next crop of youngsters are expected to break through to the first team?

Any posters who have watched the under 23's on a regular basis, your feedback would be appreciated.

I myself thought we would see more of Kaide Gordon this year but others think that might be too soon.

If we can get another TAA, or Curtis Jones coming through that benefit everyone.

After all not every player has to come with a transfer fee and yes i am aware we bought gordon from Derby.

I think all of the most promising prospects got their chance this season ala Morton, Beck, Gordon, Bradley amongst others.
From the next batch (~16 yrs currently), I think Ljinders talked about Callum Scanlon, Bobby Clark, and Luke Chambers. So, you can expect to see them in pre season definitely. Also, Layton Stewart is back from his ACL injury, and if things go well we might see him debut next season. There was a lot of hype around him before his injury. A lot of people also describe James Balagizi as being extremely talented, but he seems to struggle with consistency. Then there's Van Den Berg, who has had an excellent 18 months at Preston, but CB is the position we are most well stocked in, right now.

I don't think any of the better u18's and u19's are ready yet. Cannonier, Pitaluga, Frauendorf, Norris, Clayton, Clark and Musialowski are the standouts though. Might see some of them in pre-season maybe. You just never know how many of them will make it. Clark's the best of the bunch for me.

Next season though i do think we should give some game time to the u23's who've already had a few chances; Morton, Dixon-Bonner Bradley, Beck, Quansah, Koumetio, Van de Berg, Woltman, Longstaff, Gordon etc. None of them will make it if we don't throw them in from time to time. I'd say all of these lads are ready for senior football so if it's not with us, they need to go on loan.

I think R. Williams, N. Williams, Woodburn, Ojo, Cain, Lewis, Glatzel and Clarkson should be moved on. They've all had chances and loan spells but none look up to it other than Neco who doesn't fancy being back up.

I’m hoping Musileuski will break through soon. Looks an exciting player, but I don’t mind who to be honest as long there is one.

Funny thing is, I don't recall trents name ringing lots of bells on here until he just popped up. I wouldn't put it past any of our youngsters.

Looking forward to seeing some of the lads get a chance in preseason games.
The one I'm most intrigued about is Oakley Cannonier just as he's scored an insane amount of goals for the U18s, if this was football manager then he'd definitely be in my 1st team squad next year!

Can you imagine? Sheyi Ojo was on our first team squad roster in 2015 (before Klopp arrived) . He was 14 when he arrived and he's 25 now. He's had 8 consecutive loans. I have no idea who has held on; the club or the player; but this is a great shame and he should have been let go to find his destiny a long time ago.

The youngsters have to be really outstanding to break through really. I mean Elliot earned his stripes in the Championship. Otherwise even someone like Taki who hit double figure goals this year, barely got a look in with the first team other than the cups. So it would take a really outstanding youngster to break through and I don't see any of them being likely tbh.
