Ed025

What's happened to the rivalry between LFC and EFC?

I'm not from the City but family is - and they always had a great relationship and understanding of each other's teams and respected their achievements

The clubs (from my understanding) kept the City going in the 80's when the Thatcher Government undertook a policy of trying to run the area into the ground

In those days I remember people wanting EFC to win a trophy if it wasn't going to be LFC - and vice versa

Have I got this wrong?

Given what people are going through (and unfortunately I think it will get worse financially before it's gets better) I just don't see the need for wanting your immediate neighbours to fail - that's the community you live in

Or is the change in outlook towards the other team driven by people outside of the City?

{Ed025's Note - it used to be great angry. In the 80,s when we went to Wembley twice the atmosphere was amazing mate and we all sang along to “Merseyside Merseyside. Unfortunately times have changed and certainly not for the better. Since the late 90,s I would say things have got steadily worse and has now become a hate filled all out war. I have stopped going now due to the vitriol and nastiness associated with the derbies as the last one I went to disgusted me so much.
Personally I blame social media and the lack of respect especially by the younger generation but to be honest that’s just my view I suppose..

I agree Ed 25, I spoke before how the Liverpool and Everton fans used to sit beside each other at matches. Games were tough and well fought but both teams and sets of fans had a healthy respect for each other - now its ridiculous, pure vitriol on both sides and its a shame because many family and friends in Liverpool are, and always will be divided blue or red

Like you said Ed, the hatred started to creep in over the 90s and social media is wild for rubbish stirring - its just sad it'll never go back to what it once was.

{Ed025's Note - absolutely bill. These keyboard warriors have killed the game as a spectator sport mate ..

In my opinion things are not helped by that excuse for a player richarlison saying what he has said recently how he is in the Brazil squad is beyond hw would now get a game for my local amateur team he is though a pretty good actor opinions if you please.

{Ed025's Note - players are actually coached to dive rab and it’s sadly part and parcel of the game these days mate. Ritchie is certainly one of the worst but not the only one I’m afraid ..

Followed this site for years and never posted. I was only thinking about this last night. I remember as a kid fans mixing in the stands at Wembley and how great it was to see. Football has changed so much over the last forty years, some for the better and sadly some for the worse.

{Ed025's Note - I wish I could and the better Matt..

Spot on End025.social media, lack of respect in the younger generation, and stoked by the main stream media.

All for a bit of friendly rivallary and banter, I even let my Man Utd supporting brother in law in the house (once)

{Ed025's Note - how magnanimous of you mate 🤣

Have to agree with Ed25 i took my son to his first derby in 2018 and never went back. Was shocked at the scenes and some of the stuff being said, expected a red hot atmosphere but one based in respect, this was just hate. Pure and utter hate. The new generation have social media to air their views on troll accounts etc and its just disgusting how society has changed since my days (im only 38!)

I blame managers too, moyes with the peoples club shout Rafa with the small club shout. Good shouts for there clubs but not for the city. Only added to the growing spite. These young kids happy to cause uproar, no respect. When I say I didn’t want Everton to go down I meant it but it was based on memories when times where good. Think it will get worse next season because of lampards spat with klopp.

Plenty of old lads who should know better on both sides are just as bad as the youth.

Totally agree ed25. its a disgrace these days. Young ones have ruined it. I used to love it back in the day. Football, as our country is fooked.

{Ed025's Note - I wish I could disagree with you marty. But your dead right mate..
