Edd001 when torres signed where you excited at the time of it? did you expect him to do aswell as he did his first 2 seasons?

{Ed001's Note - I was excited, yes, he was seen as a massive talent, but I don't think anyone expected him to be as good as he was.}

Kenny bought Suarez in the January transfer window, his idea was a front two of Torres and Suarez. Torres departed to Chelsea same transfer window.

Would have been the best front two of any side in the world ever.

Think by the time Suarez arrived Torres was a spent force.

I agree, Jonesy. Torres had already gone when Suarez came. Didn't we buy Suarez and Carroll to replace Torres?

It's a bit of a myth Torres was finished by the time he signed for Chelsea. He helped them win trophies there and bagged 45 goals and 35 assists. He changed his game to accommodate his pace deteriorating, sure, but he wasn't exactly a dud. Is 80 goal involvements in 3 and half seasons really that shoddy? I think perhaps the transfer fee hangs over his head there because he certainly wasn't worth what was at the time, a Premier League record fee. Still, the numbers he churned out at Chelsea were a hell of a lot more than Andy Carroll managed for us and you can bet he'd have got a lot more with Suarez alongside him.

I'm not sure i believe it would've been the best front 2 ever though. In my time following football purely in the Premier League i think Drogba/ Anelka, Suarez/ Sturridge, Rooney/ Tevez, Rooney/ Berbatov and Henry/ Bergkamp were half decent! What i will say 007, is it would've been a joy to watch a Torres/ Suarez double act!

I seem to remember Torres having a knee injury that he never really recovered from. So that was probably a factor with his form at Chelsea. Probably a mixture of reasons though. Because he was world class for us, he was well, well below that at Chelsea.

Borini and Lambert. Blimey that makes you appreciate what we have currently 😂.

We would have been better off with a pack of Lambert / Butler up front than them pair.

Lambert being an old boy
I just wish things had worked out for him
If we had solid starters then, and he was the backup and option to change things up as needed, he may have become a cult hero like Origi
But alas, he was made starter on the back of Suarez and the drop in quality and difference in play style was too evident.
