Hi Ed,

Would requiring a verified phone number to create an account help on any way. Then when someone is to be banned they would require a new phone number each time to create a new account. Also, just your phone number being available to the people you are abusing itself may provide a very slight deterrent.

Not very informed on this type of thing, just something that crossed my mind.

I hope all the Eds are okay, you do a fantastic job and it is truly my favourite site about. Such a shame a few knuckle-draggers spoil everything.

Ed001 is spot on there. And the sheer number of IPV6 addresses available for mobile phones etc means it would be like holding back the tide. Futile.

Nobody is sharing their private contact numbers. Then it will need to comply with the privacy requirement law. That is complicated.
