Hello ed1 hope u keeping well. I read recently u where critical of wage structure at liverpool, that squad players who don't play much getting paid too much. for arguments sake using ox and mo as examples, ox on 120k a week and mo on 200k a week. obviously mo contributes 5 times more than ox does during games. but do u not feel that that adds to the team spirit or harmony in squad that everybody is kept reasonably equal? If ox on 50k a week and mo 400k do u not think that could lead to resentment? Appreciate your opinion and time.

{Ed001's Note - it shouldn't do, it should just give them an incentive to train harder to impress the boss. If a fringe player gets upset by not being paid anywhere near as much as the best player in the world (arguably) but isn't willing to work harder to earn a place, then he is not needed at the club anyway.}

Is Digger10 suggesting the first team squad should all have the same salary for harmony. Of course Mo should earn significantly more than Ox. He is a world class talent vying for the Ballon D'or. How close is OX. I would imagine Mo would be aggrieved if other less talented players were on a par with him regarding salary.

Wages are always going to be a difficult one because when contracts are signed it’s hard to judge how that player will do over the contract.

Look at Milner for a few years he was paid sufficiently more than Trent and Robbo and a lot of other first team regulars despite big being a regular first team starter.

This season Bobby could be 4th or 5th choice forward yet he’s the 4th best paid player in the squad.

That’s not me saying neither deserved those wages because at the time of them signing such contracts the club believed they were.

{Ed0666's Note - If anyone deserves their money it’s James Milner what an absolute metronome that guy is/has been. I was his biggest doubter when he signed and I owe Rogers an apology because it’s probably one of the very few things he got right at Liverpool.

Squad players contributing a fraction of what the main men do shouldn't be on what they earn at the moment. If they were on a wage more in keeping with their input we could afford to pay Mo and Virg etc far more! i know fans don't want the pay ceiling at the club smashed for the likes of Salah but if for example Adrian isn't resigned this year and Pitiluga takes the 3rd keeper spot we would free up wages to go towards the actual World Class stars we have.

Ed001 when ox signed he came with a big fee and was starting to establish himself as a first team 11 player not just a squad player up until his injury. I think the mistake the club made after that injury was giving Ox a new contract as he has got nowhere near the level he was. Such a shame Ed as he was starting to be great in the middle of the park for us give us such drive on the ball was at Anfield for the 3-0 vs city in the champions league and the midfield could not cope with his pace through the middle.

{Ed001's Note - sadly some injuries rob a player of what he had.}

I really don't get the obsession with player wages from fans. I would put it down to the Football Manager generation, but I've played those games for decades and I don't get hung up on it. When a player signs a contract, they are happy to accept it and the club are happy to pay it. If they then become less important to the club, they still have a valid contract, and at the end of it the club then decides whether the player is important enough to try and renew, or they can let them go. Nobody other than the club can assign a value to any player within the club, so it really doesn't matter if X is paid £Y a week and Z is paid £YY a week. It's an important part of club football that the club works within wage budgets, and we seem to do pretty well at managing it. I'd much rather let a player go if he's asking for way above his value to the club than have several sub-par players on huge deals that no one will match (coughmanutdcough) .

Credit to chamberlain, after his injury it’s a miracle he has managed to play at the top level. It says huge amounts about his character and determination. Like the Ed says, injuries unfortunately can stop careers. He will no doubt see his career out at a very good level but unlikely the top level. If he proves me wrong, then kudos to him.

Cheers,

Jadon mate other players wages have no bearing what MO and VVD are getting.

LFC turnover is 600M a year giving MO or VVD 20M a year is just drop of a ocean for LFC.

Problem is it will then be precedent for others and new signings hence LFC is very very careful when it comes to wages.

Nunez is big example despite being our biggest signing in-terms of transfer fee he's wages are very very low in single figures. Coz the precedent already at the club is low. For example if he had gone to UTD he would've been on double figures wages wise coz their precedent is very very high compare to us and many clubs.

{Ed0666's Note - I think it’s been reported that Nunez is on circa £140k a week of true we have to be appreciative of that because no doubt United would have blown us out the water wages wise so he’s already a star in my eyes for blanking them.

Hi Grino. Liverpool just activated the 1 year extension from the original contract. He signed a 5 year contract with the option of a 6th year.
