Cheers for the write up Ed.

Seeing this is being leaked this morning. If true it’s good news and common sense prevailed.

Teams who play CL on a wed night will no longer be selected for Sat 1230 kick offs.

{Ed001's Note - about time too.}

They'll pass that honour along to teams who play EL on a Thursday instead knowing their logic.

All bt will do is continue to give us all the Saturday 12:30s possible after international breaks as our punishment for speaking out against them.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see BT not look to renew once their contract is up.

I Can’t see them paying hundreds of millions for a 1230 game where 2 of the best teams in the league cannot be shown every Sat after a CL week.

Worst case is they could be left with the dregs and showing Everton v Utd. I’d want them to pay me to watch that game.

It’s about time the cozy cartel was broken up and LFC and other clubs should be able to stream their own games and enjoy the revenue …. I know that would upset the majority of sides in the EPL but our worldwide fan base would bring in massive amounts of revenue and we as customers wouldn’t be paying for the likes of Man Utd Citeh and Spurs.

I would pay £10 or even £20 a month to watch all LFC EPL games. Rather than pay SKY and BT … as long as Michael Owen is not a commentator on any LFC game!

{Ed001's Note - but then no revenue would be shared and it would end up like the SPFL and all the lower leagues would suffer. A league is only as good as the weakest team in it. The reason the English leagues are so strong are that we have always shared revenues more equitably than the rest. La Liga is literally in the middle of moving away from doing what you suggested because it destroyed the competitiveness of its competition.}

But what if our owners and the other top 6 decided that £20 a month isn’t enough. They want £150 a month. As we get to watch what 5-8 games a month and to get a ticket for 1 is costing north of £60.

Sky and BT are extremely greedy but let’s not pretend the top 6 owners are cut from a different cloth.

Like Ed01 says … anything is only as strong as it’s weakest bit. There has to be parity otherwise one or two teams with all the financial muscle will make the league meaningless.

In fact, why not scrap that and just start a league, say, a Super League of sorts, and only have the most popular teams in it. We will also close off promotion and relegation and not invite those pesky teams we don't want to watch. that way, LFC will make loads of money.

It’s just that I would rather pay LFC to watch their games than pay Sky so I can see some LFC games . along with Man Utd Citeh and Chelsea games.

I get that our league is stronger that other leagues due to the way the tub money is shared but we do have a big division already due to Champions League money.

Just think we have to have the opportunity to generate our revenue stream if we are to compete with nation owned clubs.

We are smart with limited resources but we could be smarter with more resources.

{Ed001's Note - Sky pay a substantial amount of money to LFC mate. Doing it the way you suggest would not help anyone, least of all the club, as it would just end up destroying the league like it has done in Spain and Scotland. The clubs would have to invest huge amounts of money into setting up film production companies and you would then have to pay 19 different clubs for away games etc. And then there are cup games....}

What if EPL do the TV set up themselves instead of Sky and BT. Then EPL share the money out to the clubs?

Could that get over the problems?

Just don’t like Sky.

But Sky and BT pay the EPL in the region of billions of pounds for the TV rights, with Amazon getting in on it now plus the overseas companies. that money is then distributed to the clubs. If EPL did the TV themselves, either the clubs would have to buy the rights or they would set up an 'EPL' TV channel and charge fans X amount of pounds a month anyway.

EPL channel … way to go?

Like Netflix…make the content (football) and sell it.

Simon Jordan has been extolling the virtues of the EPL setting up their own streaming services and instead of 2 million uk subscribers paying £40 per month they could have 20 million subscribers paying £10 per month.

Sounds good to me. Not paying SKY would be a good starting point.

The EPL could own its product instead of selling it to Amazon Sky BT etc.

More money for each club and less cost for us. Isn’t that a win win scenario?

Why shouldn’t this be the way to go? And while we are at it let us in UK see any of the games live including any 3pm Saturday games.

Let’s get EPL to reduce ticket prices for the fans as well. The game is nothing without the fans.

Cheap tickets and big attendances and universal TV access to all matches…. That’s the future we should demand.

I will not be paying any amount of money to any subscription service until they can guarantee I will be able to watch every minute of every LFC game.

I don't know why people have the hump against particular corporations. Sky, BT, the rest, they all do what's expected of capitalist organisations. They try to produce the highest value content for lowest possible cost and try to spread that cost over as many activities as efficiently possible.

How would EPL be able to produce TV content better and cheaper than Sky? Sky employs/ contracts thousands of cameramen, content directors, sound engineers, producers, software and hardware engineers, and all the other specialists required to produce sports TV content. Being a media corporation, they can share these resources amongst their other entertainment and sports productions. How would an org like EPL which specialises in football administration be able to replicate or improve on what Sky and BT do? What would the EPL match day team during the season break?

If we are to have a problem, it should be with what capitalism has become, not what specific corporations are doing. And funnily enough, LFC and Man Utd are the perfect examples of clubs benefitting from rabid capitalism, more than the state-funded clubs.
