If the Jones incident was outside of the penalty area it would be a foul and free kick no arguments so why was it not a pen?

What about the handball in the area the lads arm was not close to his body and how come sky showed one clip of the hand ball but 10 or 11 replays of the jones pen bent persons
That ref should be doing childrens football and he would mess up in that.

It wasn't a penalty because the keeper got the ball and he and Jones both made contact with each other.
The first one was a penalty but what does everyone think about Jones throwing himself to the floor after contact was made?

It was a penalty all day long. This is an area where VAR is more of a hindrance than a benefit, as it focuses entirely on whether the ball was played or not without considering other important factors.
Tackling with whatever force you wish provided you get the ball is a stupid barometer to adhere to. Sanchez took Jones out and left him with no opportunity to avoid the tackle. He did make contact with the ball but only through an avoidable collision that would have been a foul anywhere else on the pitch.

Ref was awful with bad decisions both ways. Honestly the decision to give Reece James that free kick when he just fell over and we were through on goal a minute after (rightly imo not giving Salah a penalty for initiating contact) was the most frustrating.

Sanchez doesn't have to avoid Jones after touching the ball. Why doesn't Jones have to avoid Sanchez, then?
He lost control of the ball and they both ran into each other.

Rigsby, that all nice and cute BUT there are Chelsea fans who say that Sanchez was reckless in the way he came out to meet Jones, getting the ball or not. Also, there is another school of thought in football now where you getting the ball does not automatically absolve you of whatever physical damage you might cause to the oppo. player. See Jones at Spurs last season and many others I can mention here.

Hence, Had Jones hurt his shoulder in that instance then trust me, Sanchez could have been sent off for reckless play or endangering the safety of an oppo. player and a pen awarded. Just showing you another side of things.

No problem with Jones fall. I fell like that once or twice on a pitch because there's a player slide tackling towards you, you are trying to get your legs out of there and then the rest kind of takes care of it's self and you spin a little. Basically he didn't have his legs in a safe position so was just thinking about getting them out of there to avoid injury.

I too am ok with the non pen call as I think there's a slightly higher threshold in the box. At least that's how I like to see games managed. I know the counter argument but I would be annoyed if that was given against us.

Definitely nothing wrong about Jones's fall.

Davey respectfully, I think you're only saying that now cos CJ didn't get hurt by falling down awkwardly. Im just happy Jones was okay after the fall but let's not make out like there was no way he could not have have hurt himself. Sorry, that's not a thing esp. with the awkward way Sanchez rushed out to meet him which several Chelsea fans called reckless.

Had CJ gotten hurt (which you simply cannot rule out) by falling awkwardly then we would be having a diff. convo about this esp. when you go up and over the way Jones did and lands awkwardly in addition to the actual rules that cover this scenario I brought up.

I don't really care that some Chelsea fans think Sanchez was reckless, Oli. I don't and the ref and VAR didn't.
And what has Jones being injured or not got to do with it?! Do we need a doctor's report before a penalty or ref card is awarded? ?
Both players ran into each other and neither was reckless nor fouled.
The right decision was made, eventually.

I agree @Rigsby, Sanchez beat Jones to the ball and then they both clattered onto each other as they were both going for the ball (and it is a contact sport) . If Jones had beaten Sanchez to the ball I’ve got no doubt they would have given a penalty although I much prefer the days of the 50/ 50 challenge when both players focussing on the ball meant a ‘play on’ from the ref.

Rigsby rather than laugh at your own jokes, I propose you actually read what I wrote properly. If Jones had gotten injured and had to go off on a stretcher for a busted shoulder had he landed awkwardly, you wouldn't be saying any of that, would you?

At that point, who ran into who would not have mattered. All Im saying is that cos you got the ball does NOT automatically absorb you of blame IF you inflict any type of damage on a player. If you cannot understand that fact (as there are rules for this) then, stick to your soup-sandwich level jokes that have nothing to do what what was actually said. Peace.

'Absorb you of blame'? I'm trying hard not to make a joke about that one, Oli. That's a dumpster fire of a statement, my guy.
An injury should have nothing to do with the decision. What if an injury to Jones was only discovered after the game?
You clearly have little idea about the laws of the game so should prolly being so opinionated about them. Peas.

Second one was still a pen he takes him out a second time as Jones wins the ball of Sanchez tackle and is still taken out. I am glad others have seen this I was screaming at the tv saying the exact same. He still cleans out Jones who would have got the ball and scored if was not taken out. I suppose it’s done and we came through let’s just hope we get a better ref on Sunday.

Wasn’t there a defender coming round the back f the keeper @NBG? As he wasn’t hampered by anybody n his way it was fair to say he would have got to the ball first?
