We all like to compare past sides with present; well I do anyway. Our 19/ 20 side was packed full of players who were nearly all at their peak, and I (we) wouldn't have swapped many of our players for anyone. Roll forward 5 years and we're top of the league and sitting pretty in the Champions League, yet there is still a vulnerability about us in my opinion. This is possibly based on the fact that we have one full back who wants away (my opinion), one full back who is past his best, a midfield who, as yet, I don't think we've established yet which is our best 3, and a forward line which is heavily reliant on a 32 year old.
All that said, I might come on here and moan (I'm a moaning old git), but I'm going to enjoy the ride, because none of us know where we'll end up.

In short we are not a well run club then. Our options are limited. Gravenberch will be run to ground. We had an entire summer to add a few and chose not to.

That 18/ 19 team that won the champions league was the best on the planet Rome. It was absolutely frightening. But it’s early days my mate, this is not even Slots side. He’s dining an amazing job seen as we didn’t sign him a single starting 11 player in summer.

Mane, Firmino and Salah was a combination that was absolutely magical. Was just so much fun to watch. We were so so lucky to have that combination for our team.
It helps that they had best goalie, centre back, amazing attacking full backs and everyone else as a supporting cast but I do think it's that trio I'll remember most when I'm older.
Our team is in a little transition at the moment with the players from that former team still the key ones. I think it will take a little time to grow. Slot has shown some good stuff so far but still very early.
Hopefully our team behind the scenes can support him by buying the right additions in. obviously on the surface it looks like they are doing a poor job but hopefully a lot of work is going on behind the scenes now.

It is early days, LFC8, and I can't wait to see what the future holds. This is all despite being "not a well run club". Imagine where we would be if we were a well run club.

What's this, another sensible post? ?
There's nothing wrong with moaning but the way it's done, imo.
If someone says we were poor, disappointing or whatever yesterday then fair enough. It's when people talk about detesting the horrible and turgid way we play when we are top of the League and scoring goals that I find strange.
We can improve a lot. The midfield isn't right and we need another reliable forward but every team can improve.
That and the changes in the way we play don't warrant the overreactions we see on here.
Obviously I'm not including Mango Juice Juice and his ilk's attention seeking bilge in this.

@Rome, I think it is too early to make such conclusions and in fact, how one can go all the way back 5 years to compare the most potent LFC team in the PL era (one that took 3/ 4 years to build) to one essentially in it's infancy with a new manager, is what I find jarring and wheird. I think you are shooting your shot way too early.
IMO, we are still a work in progress and that anyone can see. Teams are posing diff. problems to us every week and even tho we are solving such issues, it is taking too much time to fix. Also, we need Slot to get his own type of players in to see what that will bring hence, you see people slating Macca and Szobo and we don't even know if they are his type of players. We're a work in progress and the hope is, we can keep improving. As for the title? Call me back in Jan/ Feb.

I think some fans are still in mourning for Klopp. I am a little bit myself.
I caught a video of our game against Spurs a couple of seasons ago when we were 3-0 up and they got it back to 3-3 and Jota then scored for 4-3.
The emotion from Klopp was brilliant. From despair to unbridled joy as he was running up the line pumping his fists. We love that because that’s what we are. I don’t think there’s another fanbase in the country that has that raw passion that we have and Klopp encapsulated it perfectly. He was one of us.
Slot is so much calmer than Klopp and his team plays more in his image as Klopp’s did in his. For most of us this is a big change and although I wasn’t around at the time it is reminiscent of the transition from Shankly to Paisley.
As for the players there will always be room for improvement. Imagine the meltdown if we’d gone to Bournemouth and lost 2-1 with only 4 shots on goal. But the best team in the world (allegedly) has just done exactly that.
Football is not a constant. You can play amazingly well one week and everyone says how great you are but then play terribly the next week and half the team needs replacing. We are working with human beings who are all fallible but can also learn and improve.
Macca had a poor game yesterday but he’s had good games in the past and has my full support until the manager decides to replace him if he thinks that’s necessary.
The only time you’ll ever see me criticise a player is if I think they are not working hard enough or playing for themselves without adapting their game to fit the team. The team has to be the focus, not individual players.
Szob and Nunez are prime examples of this. You can say they don’t do enough on the ball if you like and criticise their quality (which both have in my opinion) but you could never ever doubt their commitment to the team. You can’t play well in every game but if you’re not playing well you can still have a positive impact on the team by working for the team. That’s how you win titles.

Slot getting his own type of players won’t change a damn about the way we are playing. It’s still a possession based pass to death football. What are you even saying @Oli?

03 Nov 2024 21:17:59
OliRed, I'm not making any conclusions. I've been watching football far longer than you, been going to games at Anfield for over 40 years etc. I don't need you to explain to me how long it takes a manager to build a team. And why the heck do you find what I say "jarring" and what does "wheird" mean?
I'm not shooting anything prematurely, thank you very much. So step back off your soap box and be more considerate and reflective before you post. And I won't be calling you in January or February. But I will be at Anfield in May if we lift the title.

Wow, Rome. So because you watch g.

03 Nov 2024 21:46:57
Wow, how sad? So cos you watch games at Anfield, you are always right? You can't be disagreed with? You feel everyone is wrong and you're the only one who is right? And when someone challenges you, you result to personal attacks from the position of relentless ignorance of the person you are speaking to. Okay, bro.
Your response (however insolent it was) just shows you lack the intellectual fortitude address the substance I posted in my comment (even if you disagree) which tells me, you aren't even able to actually discuss/ defend the very positions you brought up that I challenged. WHo's on a soap box now? The projection is deafening. Pathetic.
One last thing. You don't know who that football I am, how old I am, how long I have been watching football or LFC in general and you going to Anfield for donkey years don't mean jack to me cos that does NOT make you some genius on the topic clearly, cos you can't even have a meaningful debate without reigning insults and some self-entitled rubbish about you going to Anfield that I could not be arsed about. Embarrassing.
13.) 03 Nov 2024
03 Nov 2024 21:50:20
@Mango Juice Juice, so you really think that a manager bringing his own players in would not improve his own team? So you are saying that if a handiman brought in his own tools, he has NO chance of doing the job better? Okay, bro.
Maybe it is you who needs to figure out what you are talking about as that statement makes NO sense to the average bear, let alone a human being.
14.) 03 Nov 2024
03 Nov 2024 22:13:41
OliRed, I respect your right to an opinion, and I often agree with stuff you say. And you are right, an amount of time someone has been doing something doesn't necessarily make them more qualified than someone who has been doing something a lesser time. What I object to is you considering what I say jarring and "wheird" when all I was doing was prematurely comparing a current side with a past side. It was to bring about a discussion and debate. I don't consider myself to be a genius on any topic. Football is subjective and a matter of opinion. We will no doubt continue to both agree and disagree on matters in the future.
All I kindly ask is you choose words more carefully when disagreeing and I won't retaliate with what you consider to be self entitled rubbish.

“so you really think that a manager bringing his own players in would not improve his own team”
Ten Haag.
Or every other manager in world football that brought in their own players and then got sacked.

Oli, how can you have a go at Rome for thinking he is the only one that is right? You're worse than anyone on here for it! You're the one that comes out with things like 'I don't care what anyone says'.
You can't even back up your arrogance so I propose you wind your neck in, my guy.

Great weekend of results that.
3 of last years top 4 losing and Utd and Chelsea not winning either.
Spurs v Villa was a decent game to watch (2nd half specifically) but the Utd V Chelsea was a bit dull.
